Dead Professional , the new one-man project from John Harouff of The Cinnamon Band, released a new alt-country/pop track called "Don't Be Cruel" that's full of layers of vocal harmonies and handclap drum machine percussion. Loving this song so much. Dead Professional will be performing at Strange Matter on Monday, April 8 with The People's Temple, Bad Magic and Marinero . He'll also be playing at MACRoCk in Harrisonburg this weekend and the Tom Tom Festival in Charlottesville April 13-14.

I love putting together our monthly mixtapes. It's fun slowly compiling the tracks over the course of the month; it's fun sequencing the tracks for the mix; and I love that "ah ha" moment when I realize the mix is finally done. All of the pieces for this one fell into play last night, and although I normally like living with my mixes for awhile before sharing them, this one just seemed ready to be set free. You'll find lots of great new music from familiar artists like Aesop Rock, steffaloo, and Ty Segall and White Fence, but this mix [...]

On Friday, I received a nice little package in the mail by Funny/Not Funny Records containing three 7-inch singles. As it's been a very long time since I've done a Cover Art piece, and with our nice new bamboo floor, I figured now was the time to reinstate that section on FensePost. All three are super limited pressings of 300 each. The Demon Beat / Elephant Child Split The first up is The Demon Beat split [...]

The guys in the Cinnamon Band have a new project out called "12×12," a free digital release of a different cover song each month this year. The first release is a cover of "The Hammond Song" by The Roches. They're also going to be releasing a 73 of two original songs (Black Love and Tough Love) in April as well as working hard on a full length. And they just confirmed a show on Feb. 18 at Strange Matter with Snowy Owls and Airstrip . [...]

If you weren't at last night's Listening Room, then you missed all of the following: Clint Maul changing his lyrics to be G-rated on the fly (thanks to the children in the front row) Antonia's amazing homemade snickerdoodles. Stolen Sheep playing their fuzzy, pop rock that captured everyone in the audience. They also played brand new material. "BANTER!" between the members of the Cinnamon Band between songs (acoustic this time around). A large crowd that stayed until the end. The lights NOT falling down for once. [...]

Head over to Sprout tonight for a free show with some amazingly talented bands. You may have heard me geeking out over rock duo The Cinnamon Band . The last time I saw them, their luscious harmonies and simple music held my attention for hours. Snowy Owls are always enjoyable and while I have not heard Silversmiths beyond the tracks I've heard, I am eager to check them out. I'm expecting an all-out music extravaganza. There's [...]

Next up in the Live at Ipanema series is rock duo The Cinnamon Band , whose music packs such a punch, I would recommend not getting to close as they pound away. They do promise to try to keep their loud antics down. If you haven't heard these guys yet, do yourself a favor and head to Ipanema on Sunday. Show starts at 10 p.m. The Cinnamon Band - Buena Vista

The War on Drugs So first off, let me dispense with the now obvious, much too long, and unexplained absence from The Rut for the last four and half months. Quite simply...I've been gone. And now I'm back. That's pretty much the long and the short of it. To be honest I wasn't even sure if I was going to pick this endeavor up again...I thought maybe this little hobby had run its course and that over time The Velvet Rut would simply disappear into the ether that is [...]
The Cinnamon Band's All Dressed EP was a pleasant surprise; I hadn't heard or heard of the Virginia duo, but upon first listen, I couldn't help but become intimately familiar. The band emits energized indie rock with the easy of a veteran group, like due to songwriter/guitarist John Harouff and drummer Neil Campbell musical relationship, which has been evolving since they first began playing

John Harouff and Drummer Neil Campbell grew up in Staunton, VA and have been playing in bands together since age twelve, including making up two of the trio of The Union of a Man and a Woman. The Cinnamon Band's debut EP, All Dressed will be out August 10th on the Post Modern Recording Co. I'm Asking You http://www.cinnamonband.com http://www.myspace.com/cinnamo nband

After touring with Wolf Parade , The Cinammon Band made quite an impression. Â So much so that they were fortunate enough to be invited to record at the band's Mt. Zoomer studio. Â The session left the group with a four song EP of swelling indie rock full of melody and soul, something you wouldn't expect necessarily from a duo to pull off so successfully. Â But on the All Dressed EP (out 8/10) , they do, and they do so with promise [...]

The Cinnamon Band is a curious little project. I say little only because they are comprised of just two members; trust me, their big sound belies their lack of manpower. Let's just say that if you're of the belief that being a duo predisposes you to a stripped down aesthetic, guitarist John Harouff and drummer Neil Campbell beg to differ. Fans of their previous band, frantic noise poppers The Union Of A Man And Woman , may be surprised to find that The Cinnamon Band deals more in currencies of [...]

One of my favorite local bands since hearing them for the first time almost two years ago to the day, The Cinnamon Band have announced that they'll be releasing their first "official" EP, All Dressed , later this month. The four-track extended player was recorded last fall at Mt. Zoomer Studio in Montreal with Arlen Thompson (of Wolf Parade). Among the tracks featured on the forthcoming release is a re-working of a TCB fave "Buena Vista" [listen below] along with three brand new songs ("I'm Asking You", "You Heard [...]

Handsome Furs, Dri and the Cinnamon Band play the Earl tonight

Production Simple is welcoming Handsome Furs to Skull Alley Thursday, and they've been nice enough to let us throw some tickets your way. It'll be a good time, so get on the ball and try to get in for free thanks to your old frenemies at Buzzgrinder. Two winners will get a pair of tickets each, and make sure you can be in Louisville on Thursday. I'm not carting you around. But I might buy you a drink if you say hi. To enter the contest, [...]

The Cinnamon Band [John Harouff (l) and Neil Campbell (r)] If you've been following along and reading my blog posts since the cvilleMUSE.com days I don't have to tell you that I've been a big fan of Staunton, Virginia's The Cinnamon Band for some time now. My introduction to The Cinnamon Band stretches back to April of 2008 when I saw the duo of guitarist John Harouff and drummer Neil Campbell open up for Handsome Furs at the Satellite Ballroom and I've been telling [...]
