Now in it's third year, the Virgin Mobile Festival at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore MD has now made itself the premier festival for the mid-Atlantic region, and thanks to this years lineup, is now known for covering the pop-music spectrum. It was a beautiful weekend for a festival, as temperatures never got too hot, and a nice breeze kept up for most of the weekend. While the surrounding Baltimore suburbs were getting pounded with scattered thunderstorms, the festival managed to stay sunny and cool, making it a great weekend [...]

Man oh man, the Florida branch of RockSellout has been sick as a dog this past week. Things are looking up though as the new week begins and I can actually stand upright for periods longer than 30 seconds. I've still got a horrendous hacking cough but since you, unlike my poor coworkers, can't hear it you can be around me long enough for Monday's bestest blues beater - our weekly Beating Monday Blues! The Dials A peppy opener from The Dials, designed especially [...]

Mega-post, ready? clockwise: the first wave of police, trail of motorcycle cops, second wave of police, the Pope in his limo Last weekend was a great one. Played tourist in my backyard, which I tend to do a lot in the spring/summer. Sharon's bro, Neil , was visiting and we did it up. After a Friday night that will go down in history as the most "speak-easy'd" so far we, woke up to find that the Pope was in my hood. So we [...]

I met Spike, your DJ for this weekend's Tenacious Ten, when I was 3 and he was 4. Spike tells this rather lucid story about how he peered over the redwood fence that separated our backyards and there was wee TVD, mashing blueberries into a Frisbee. Spike's my brother from a different set of parents -- and being adopted myself, it ain't a stretch. We grew up together, went to the same university here in DC, and even though he's lived in New York City with his lovely wife and gorgeous daughters going on 16 years now, (Spike, [...]
I know what you're thinking: Bob Dylan covers? Really? How common. True enough. Bobby D may be the most covered songwriter in pop music history. But these covers are different. These covers are ones that I like, and some are pretty rare (or at least haven't turned up in the [...]

I know I have been a tad missing in action as of late-my sincerest apologies. Schoolwork (i.e. Biology midterm) has made my life a little hectic, and so once this week concludes I should be back in action. But for now: Citizen Cope - Let the Drummer Kick ( 4.8/5 ) Enjoy!

Gonna try a new weekly feature on Wednesdays. In this fast-paced always-trying-to-out-do-the-ne xt-guy music blog world, I think people seem to forget about older music. And by that, I mean just a few years old. This is some of what I was listening to wayback in early 2005 . Citzen Cope ~ Son's Gonna Rise Butterfly Boucher ~ Another White Dash Ani DiFranco ~ Studying Stones Bright Eyes ~ We Are Nowhere And It's Now [...]
As I study for yet another Physics test (which is also causing me to miss the Pela show in DC on Saturday), I forgot that I needed to give you all some great music. Here you are. Enjoy... and wish me luck! The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored Apostle of Hustle - National Anthem of Nowhere Citizen Cope - Pablo Picasso Beirut - Forks and Knives (La Fete) Ghostland Observatory - Silver City Yeasayer - Sunrise Interpol [...]
[MP3] Bono - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds Who would've thought that Bono would cover a Beatles tune? Well, when you think about the people that Bono is trying to emulate, you can't help but see him drawing influence from John Lennon. Perhaps it's their Irish heritages, or Bono is like many others in his adoration of The Beatles. This cover is slated to appear on the soundtrack to the upcoming flick, Across The Universe . Bono's take on the song is [...]
I Wanted To Do The Hyperlinked Version of This Article From Vanity Fair Graydon, This is just to let you know that if you try to poach This Recording ever again, I will go all linky and probably send your crazy fucking e-mails to Jezebel. Watch yourself. Rashida Jones, photographed at Abingdon Square Park, in the West Village, New York City. "Atlantis to Interzone (Digitalism remix)" - Klaxons ( mp3 [...]
Sorry about the delay in getting this out, the first week of classes are always pretty hectic. However, here is some music everyone can enjoy! Mew - The Zookeeper's Boy Citizen Cope - Bullet and A Target Pixies - Where Is My Mind? David Vandervelde - Murder In Michigan Elbow - Station Approach The Airborne Toxic Event - The Girls In Their Summer Dresses The [...]

I've been meaning to post this song for a while now. And it's Michael's great Alice Smith post that spurred me into action. Alice had been opening up for Citizen Cope on his recent tour. Cope is the pseudonym of Clarence Greenwood, and I've been enjoying his last couple of albums - 2004's The Clarence Greenwood Recordings and last year's Every Waking Moment - for a while now. They truly surprise me, as they seem to get better and better the more I listen. It was one of those [...]

There seems to be a a slight similarity between today's song and today's video. First, both are cover versions of great songs which is highly unusual, because I am not a big fan of covers unless the new version is better than the original (Jimi Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower") or unless the new version just does something entirely different (Ministry covering "Lay Lady Lay"). That's interesting how the songs I use as examples were both originally Bob Dylan songs. The other similarity between the two videos is France. Nouvelle Vague is French, and the video by the [...]

Song: Citizen Cope ~ " Back Together " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =nvsArhwfsdc I'm just looking forward to seeing Citizen Cope play at the Wiltern tomorrow.
