The very next day, CNN ran an article titled, "Unique portrait from Shakespeare's life unveiled". Apparently a 400-year old portrait was kept anonymously in an Irish home has been confirmed as the only painting of Shakespeare created during his lifetime. I guess that dispels the rumors that he was actually Francis Bacon or Christopher Marlowe, right? Grouper and City Center, modern practitioners of the ethereal, have released a limited split 73 suitable for the collector of motive driven pieces. Over time I've become absolutely entranced by Liz Harris and her persistence in subtlety which really shines through on "False Horizon," no pun intended. Enchanted vocal canons overlaying the current of an insistent strumming leave me comfortable in disease, or just thankful for the inspiration that so many draw from Portland. Support Grouper, purchase here . You can catch Liz on April 26 at the Smell and in May when she tours with Animal Collective. [...]
These guys opened for Casiotone for the Painfully Alone at the CMJ showcase at Silent Barn in Bushwick Queens. With a few albums and a few tours behind them they have a good shot of releasing a decent record. Hopefully I will see them in a year or two making good on their potential. This track sounds to me like a cross between Detroit's Pascal and what it might sound like to hear a basement recording of The Smiths when Johnny Marr , Morrissey and co were [...]

Grouper just released her beautifully dreamy debut, Dragging a Dead Deer Up A Hill , earlier this year, to much acclaim, and will now be releasing the exclusive new track "False Horizon" on a split 7" with her friend City Center , who I had not been aware of up until this point, yet now believe to be the savior of a dismal week with his "This Is How We See In The Dark". Though I haven't gotten to hear the finished version, which he reassures is "a lot more refined/better", this demo is enough to suffice. [...]

I love Grouper 's Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill LP quite a little bit , and her new song " False Horizon " -- which appears on an upcoming split 7" with her friend City Center -- was apparently recorded at the same time as Dragging , which would explain why it's so perfect. City Center has this to say about Grouper's latest: "Liz's song is exclusive to this release, and (was) recorded around the same time as her last amazing [...]

Ecco la ricca lista di questo mese (potete anche scaricarla tutta intera ): AMERICA : I Guess I'm Floating City Center – Summer School [...]

The first installment of the Music Alliance Pact was a good introduction to a collective feature that's continuing to grow as a beacon of solidarity in the music blog community. Last month featured a collection of 12 songs from 12 blogs from around the world, each chosen to represent the country from which each band (and blog) originates. This month we've added the much-missed Canadadian and Norwegian blogs I(Heart)Music and Eardrums , respectively, bringing the total world representation to 5 of 7 continents (Africa and Antarctica, we're comin' for ya!). MAP's [...]

Vive la revolution! Following the wild success of the inaugural Music Alliance Pact last month, we've been working our wee socks off to collate November's selections, now expanded to 14 countries thanks to the additions of ambassadors from Canada and Norway. Just to remind you, MAP is a venture set up by The Pop Cop in which the hottest music blogs from Planet Earth pick their favourite song of the month by an artist from their country then simultaneously post the entire collection of songs on their own sites on the same [...]
Eardrums is now a member of the Music Alliance Pact, a monthly feature where music bloggers across the world share a track from their home country which they are excited about. 14 countries are represented in the Music Alliance Pact (MAP), and we will all post a list of all the MAP-songs on the 15th of each month. The MAP project is originally the idea of Jason from the Pop Cop blog, and he's also the one who is organizing the whole team. Thanks to him for the great work he's done! Here [...]
Music Alliance Pact month 2 is upon us. the goal is for all of these websites to share all of these songs on a given day each month. Today's the day. So here for your listening pleasure are all the best songs that made an appearance on the internets for the month of November. AMERICA: I Guess I'm Floating City Center – Summer school Brooklyn's City Center is the solo work of Fred Thomas from Saturday Looks Good To Me, focusing [...]
Maybe you've heard of this City Center dude by now, we've been shamelessly writing him up every chance we get. As long as Fred Thomas keeps putting these jams up on his blog , we'll keep pimping them out to the rest of the blog world. This time around, said jam "This Is How We See In The Dark," a which CC has now completed and released on a new split 7" b/w Grouper ... So super stoked to announce officially that there's some new [...]
![[MP3] City Center: "Hawse" & "When We Were Stolen"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1299411_lg.jpg)
Here's a wee follow-up to the introductory post I wrote on Brooklyn's City Center a couple weeks back. As I noted before, CC's Fred Thomas maintains a pretty awesome blog where he's uploaded about forty City Center demos as well as rare material from his other more well known project Saturday Looks Good To Me . I've been kicking back to City Center for a few weeks now, weeding through the vast collection of material, some good and some bad, trying to pick out songs to share on [...]
September is gone? Usually right around this time I'm one month into another fall semester, midterms coming up in a few weeks, the typical disbelief over how quickly I went from laying on a beach enjoying seemingly endless amounts of summer days to sitting in a classroom waiting for the session to end. Luckily college is no more, I'm moving to Brighton, MA, in a few days, and I can still lay on a beach albeit with a bit more clothing and less sunblock. September is gone. We're that much closer to a new President, [...]

Today's Pitchfork's Guest List featured High Places , who shed some light on some of their favorite songs, movies, bands, etc, so I decided to pursue a few of those recommendations hoping to find something "blog-worthy" and "undiscovered" [Ed. the unending pursuit ]. Soiled Mattress and the Springs led me to Silk Flowers , which directed me (thank you myspace top eight) to Brooklyn's one man, lo-fi fuzzfest City Center . Not surprisingly City Center (Fred Thomas) has a similar aesthetic to High Places: a penchant for manipulated "found sounds" [...]
