Singer/songwriter Claire Small has called both Nashville and Austin home -- with the Lone Star locale being her current residence -- and it's easy to hear the influences of both in her music. The rootsy Americana that sits comfortably next to the more indie-styled pop energy in her best songs reflects the mix of influences at play in her writing, many of which are grounded in what she describes as "1930's and 40's American roots music (including) artists like Hank Williams and Robert Johnson." She adds, "for me, roots rock describes the filtering of these [...]

Traces is the new album by former eastmountainsouth singer-songwriter Peter Bradley Adams . Written and recorded within six months of his previous release leavetaking , the new disc follows through on Peter's pretty blend of languid folk and dusky Americana. The songs on Traces flow seamlessly and beautifully together. So much so that it's difficult to pick a stand out, but if I had to it would be the gentle ballad "For You." Also of note are the slightly darker, [...]

This week has just flown by- I can hardley believe it's been a whole seven days since I last put up a mixtape, but here it is. It's another very eclectic, trans-genre mix this week: Norwegian hip-hop/rap, Americana, Rock, Experimental, and Totally Michael. I had to include the Totally cool guy from my hometown (hello, Bloomington). Anyway, I'm in a ruch here, so download, listen, comment, listen again, ENJOY. Tracklisting: Andrew Ripp - Get Your Smile On Claire [...]

My pick of the evening is actually that after party - The Features and Jensen Sportag ? Sign me up. But earlier in the night you have lots of great stuff to choose from - particularly the Lake Fever showcase at [...]

Ledger is the full-length debut by Nashville singer-songwriter Claire Small. I discovered Claire's music when she joined Eastmountainsouth's Peter Bradley Adams for his July Mountain Stage performance . Small's sound often shares Adams' dreamy Americana style, but with a stronger hint of jazz and country. Her smooth voice and organically eclectic melodies remind me a little of Eleni Mandell or Eilen Jewell , but there's also an exotic quality to Claire's music. This is probably due to the wonderfully wide range of influences she names - everyone from Johnny Cash and The Beatles [...]
