This week several accomplished female solo artists have caught our attention, while a few somewhat new groups break from the gate with loads of promise. Katie Herzig , the Grammy-nominated singer whose tracks carry a similar tune to other female pop artists we dig, has her fifth solo album Walking Sleep out. Her playful singing can lead to a energetic, radio-friendly track to a soul-wretching soliloquy and it's really good at both ends. Tori Amos , the sweet-singing soloist returns with Night of Hunters , which is her 12th solo album. Amos [...]
A recent article stated that most department stores a la Target, Best Buy, Walmart will completely remove CDs from their shelves by 2014. It's crazy to imagine that the entire physical element of the music industry will be gone in less than three years. It will exist in space, in a place between nowhere and our ears. Some will go kicking and screaming...clutching the physical form until their

After last week's hefty list of new albums, this week feels like a breeze. However, it's actually pretty full in its own right. In the weird category, Of Montreal has a box set out on Joyful Noise. The catch? It's a cassette box set. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah return with a new album (pictured), and they're still as DIY and self-released as ever. Expect all-too-cool indie kids to go crazy for the new Wavves EP. And don't forget mainstays like Tori Amos and Thrice . Of course, this is still [...]

I've been waiting for this week since the middle of August when I updated my calender and watched concerts with perfect line ups stack up. This week is tremendous, not to mention filled with some of the best local talent this city has to offer. I'm choosing the local shows over the slightly bigger names all week. I'm most excited for Friday-Sunday. Go see a show! Monday 9/19 Frazey Ford with Whitehorse at Club Passim [...]

Photo by Hannah Davis I've definitely had my ups and downs with Brooklyn's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah over the years. I disagreed with the harsh critics of the band's sophomore effort, Some Loud Thunder, finding the album a fresh, new, good-sounding direction for the band. I'm sure it was hard being heralded as the "greatest unsigned indie rock band EVER." All that hype for CYHSY's second record
Assessing anything indie maverick Clap Your Hands Say Yeah puts out requires addressing that it was one of the first bands to self-release online. That fact bathed its self-titled debut in a rare glow of novelty, not to mention that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah was an outstanding record anyway. After such widespread critical awe, it's no wonder CYHSY's subsequent release, Some Loud Thunder, wasn't nearly as well received. So Alec Ounsworth and his bandmates did what any self-respecting musicians do after a sophomore slump: They "took a break to pursue side projects." [...]

I hate packing...it sucks. Just about the only positive aspect to it is cranking your stereo and getting in the zone. Here is the soundtrack to my hump day pack-fest. Free mp3: Summer Camp - Better Off Without You Free mp3: The Ruminaters - Deadstuff Free mp3: Nerves Junior - Kale Free [...]

Photo by Pieter M. van Hattem From NPR Music : In the two-year release cycle that seems to permeate the land of small bands, 2009 marked the due date for album No. 3. Clap Your Hands got together to do just that — but it didn't jell, and the group's members went their separate ways without a new record. Singer Alec Ounsworth made some good solo stuff, and other members embarked on some extracurricular musical activities. In other words, they all grew up a bit. In that growing, they began to [...]

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 's new album, ' Hysterical ', is set for release in Europe today, but U.S. fans won't be able to get their hands on the album until September 20. The band's third studio album and follow-up to 20072s ' Some Loud Thunder ' was produced by John Congleton . ' Hysterical ' [...]

Oh Land - Electric Arena The body had now taken a two-day pounding and it's almost by accident we walk on site and into the Electric Arena where Oh Land is serving some morning pop. On stage is just Ms Øland and two guys either side on keys, for this, her first Irish gig. Initial thoughts are that she'll be too sparse and perhaps her pop, a bit too sacharine for minds occupied by thoughts of breakfast rolls and clean showers. Well, it takes about three minutes to blow that idea right out of the water. [...]

Last week, the UK's Larmer Tree Gardens hosted a hilariously deep bill for the End Of The Road Festival, a lineup that featured Joanna Newsom, Kurt Vile, Tinawiren, Lykke Li, Best Coast, the Walkmen and dozens of other notables. Elena Morelli was there to magnificently document the epic lineup. There's a peacock in one of her shots. You should find it.

Nú líður senn að því að maðurinn með skrítnu röddina, Alec Ounsworth , og félagar hans í Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sendi frá sér sína þriðju breiðskífu - eftir fjögurra ára bið! Tvær smáskífur komu út í sumar, lögin Maniac" og Same Mistake", og hljómuðu bæði bara nokkuð vel. Hljómsveitin ákvað að fara þá leiðina að gefa út sjálfir, en platan er væntanleg þann tuttugasta þessa mánaðar. Hinsvegar er hægt að taka forskot á sæluna og streyma plötunni í heild hér . Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Maniac [...]

Welcome back after a relaxing Labor Day Weekend! For those of you who were at Bumbershoot, my jealousy abounds. Yet this jealousy doesn't spread to hate, for there are too many album streams on the web today to keep secret even from your worst enemies. Today holds the potential of streaming six new albums today, including Neon Indian's Era Extraña , St. Vincent's Strange Mercy , Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Hysterical , Laura Marling's [...]
