If you aren't already, it's time to follow The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle on Tumblr — his blog is as witty and entertaining as one might expect, and he updates it fairly frequently. In particular, it was interesting to see him recently post a photo of a very young version of himself at a Nick Cave show. It turns out he's quite the Cave fan, and that seeing The Bad Seeds play on the tour in question was quite the formative experience on both Darnielle himself and on [...]

This is a amazing set of covers by Built to Spill playing a secret show at this Cafe in San Jose California. I think bands who have a certain unique sound should entertain their roots and songs that inspired them because chances are the experience will be completely natural for them. Maybe not at first when you are looking for that sound but for fun. It's a way to help connect the fans to real music once again with the ultimate cover band who you know will make you feel it. Enjoy! Built [...]

top of the day, fools! the past week has been kind of weird, thus the silence. my grandma, who wasnt in the best of health, but still alive and kicking, passed away last week. so, in her honour, here is the clash bootleg rat patrol from fort bragg . she was a huge clash fan, in fact she was at the show when the iconic photo for london calling was shot. thats a lie, but sounds cool. that picture was from the last time i saw her, which was sadly 2 years ago at my brothers wedding. The Indigo Girls have been performing cover songs in concert throughout their career; here are a few of their best.
Several months ago, when reviewing Boys School’s debut album , I asked “Why can’t there be more albums like Boys School’s Boys School ?” That question has been answered with the arrival of 180 , the debut album from British rock band Palma Violets. 180 , like Boys School , is a refreshing take on 60s garage and psychedelic rock, bringing the sounds of the summer of love to spring 2013. Additionally, I hear the disc as taking listeners through an abbreviated history of Anglo-American underground rock music. These reasons alone make [...]
Suede has managed to revive a bit of interest in themselves amongst the general public by returning with a decent record. Robbie Williams has managed to pique mine by being a blowhard. Recently, Robbie has taken to his blog to remind us that boy bands are ok. I'm going to say something nice about him now [...] The post Robbie Williams Uses Both Sides Of His Mouth appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .
For a bunch of guys who never took their musical aptitude seriously, there is no denying The Clash developed chops and were a formidable group of musicians when it was all said and done. That being said, someone has generously uploaded isolated instrument tracks for Safe European Home , Rock The Casbah , Train In Vain , and a few others. We can't express enough how refreshing it is to hear new band sound like this. Outside the stale lines of most guitar bands from the last 5 years, "Armed" nods to a different class of influence from the obscure side of the Clash to psychedelic British rock. In honor of SKATERS recent 7” release for "I Wanna Dance (But I Don't Know How)," the band are giving away a digital download of “Armed”. Also, the NYC rockers will head to the UK next week for a month-long headlining tour. They are a don't miss live show. [...]

My mom just walked into my room as I was listening to Rainy Milo and asked: "is that Amy Winehouse ?" It's hard to blame her for thinking so, as on a cursory listen there are definitely parallels between this rising seventeen (!) year-old singer and the late neo-soul legend. But there's a lot more to Milo than just riding the classic-R&B revivalist wave. She started working on collaborations with other artists around her area at just fourteen, "desperate to surround [herself] with talented people [her] age," [...]
