Greg Haines releases 'Where We Were', a great, atmospheric meandering album between modern classic, electroacoustic ambient and beat-driven dub-techno The post Greg Haines - Where We Were appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

Braveyoung // Will the Dust Praise You Portland ambient/drone project Braveyoung describe themselves as “a punk band, kind of”. That sentiment speaks to the fact that the band is sort of an enigma in the musical landscape. Previously collaborating with noise doom duo The Body on a wonderfully dark 3-track EP, Braveyoung has found ardent supporters in the most unlikely of places, the metal scene. Just Google this EP and you’ll find scads of blogs typically only cover metal talking about how beautiful this EP [...]

Words Are Meaningless – Inanimate EP Words Are Meaningless present a bit of an enigma to us. We don’t know much about them (him? her?) but we do know the music is coming to us from the Golden State. We received this fantastic 5-track EP a few days ago and it immediately struck a chord with us. The release is self-described as evoking “… a distinguished vision of melancholic beauty…” and there was definitely an attractive quality to the distress of the release. We haven’t posted anything ambient or mellow in a while so this is a [...]
Never let it be said that we here at Not Some Kid don't have a taste in classical productions. Earlier on today, our much beloved MitiS linked this song, talking about how he loved the piano. I took a listen, and straight away the beauty of the production drew me in. The harmonies created between [...]

Ah, Queen. A group I certainly don't listen enough to. This is one of those songs that constantly floated around my childhood, but one I had never actually connected to Queen. Don't judge me, I was just a child! Anyway, I dedicate this song to m'colleague, Hugh. Even though I've never met him. Jury is still out on whether or not he actually exists, or is just the fevered machinations of my alternate self. But whatever, bros for life, man! Glasgow's 48K collective have been putting on some rather fine nights over the past couple of years. The focus on classic early 90s breakbeat hardcore alongside an intimate vibe inside a bowling club has led word of the events to spread far and wide. They've taken their show on the road recently with a couple of events outwith their usual venue and Friday 24th of May sees them take up home at new location St Vincent Bowling Club in Finnieston . To get you warmed up for the event we caught up with [...]

I know what you're thinking already! Might sound a bit old fashion, right? Since Modular is giving away the modern classic "Shooting Stars" from Australian duo Bag Raiders , I thought it would be a good idea to post it just to make sure we will have it forever in our database. Without a doubt that "Shooting Stars" is one of those tracks I've been hearing non stop since 2009! I clearly remember to play this one for the people here on the island, and it was always one of the highlights of the night. It's truly [...]

So, I never knew the name of the group that wrote this tune, and with good reason: it's friggin' ridiculous. Wikipedia informs me that it comes from the Fancy Cat name (what) of the manager's friend's cat. Man, the 60s were NUTS. Anyway, this is just one of those classic songs that will continue on and on as a bastion of superb song writing and performing. Consequently, it's also one of those songs that's going to be covered. Badly. But you certainly can't go past that sumptuous combination of organ, bass and wonderful vocals, can you? [...]

In 1884, Pierrot Lunaire: Rondels Bergamasques (Moonstruck Pierrot), a collection of 50 poems by symbolist Belgian poet Albert Giraud was published. The protagonist in the poems is Pierrot , that classic sad clown who dates back to the 16th century. Pierrot ached for the love of Columbine who broke his heart when she ran away with Harlequin. He is such a classic that Pierrot is the inspiration for the white-faced pantomimes in theaters and on city streets for more than 500 years. Many composers [...]

World renowned and Grammy-nominated Deutsche Grammophon recording artist Avi Avital recently linked up with B3SCI on the mean streets of Austin, TX to chat about his musical relationship with the mandolin and to play us a new song. We captured Avi doing what he does best with this unique and special performance at the Bungalow on Rainy St. during mid-day SXSW 2013. Avi really gets into it about half-way through, such an awesome moment. Check it out below... Avi Avital ( Facebook )

In celebration of 20k Facebook followers, San Francisco producer Charlie Yin (aka Giraffage) is giving away his redemption of Stardust's classic "Music Sounds Better With You." Besides delivering excellent original material, it seems that the young producer really enjoys himself remixing big tunes. It's not always that we post this type of remix, but this work is definitely very well designed. You will instantly fall in love for the excellent synth-line together with a very well captured vocal work being wisely used along the piece. Definitly a keeper. Make sure to download your copy below and follow Giraffage on [...]
Continue reading
