So I decided to create a rather unconventional music post today. Get ready to be INSPIRED. I've recently helped some friends of mine launch a clothing line called the ADAMO Collection. The whole idea behind this company is to provide a platform for rebelliously creative young people to pursue their passions, collaborate with each other, [...]

I'll admit it right up front: I'm not the biggest fan of Pierre Boulez's compositions. While they are certainly some of the most important works of the 20th century, I find they can lack a certain liveliness, passion, soul, and wit: those human qualities that we seek when listening to abstract music. Much of this is deliberate, part of the postwar aesthetic that Boulez and his contemporaries exalted. Boulez famously wrote "Schoenberg is Dead" as a way to separate himself from what he perceived as the overly emotive and Romantic qualities of prewar12-tone works. [...]

Little Loud // Claude Debussy Hi there. I shan't keep you too long today, but these are two songs which are worth a minute (actually, back-to-back it's about 12 minutes) of your time. They're pretty good to have in the same post too, as one is originally from the 19402s and the other is very contemporary. Anyway, we'll start with the new one. It's from a Brighton-based producer/remixer called Little Loud. This song is the 802s like you've never heard it before. It took [...]

Listening to this version of Clair de Lune is like hearing an entirely different song. If only Claude Debussy had any idea that his music might sound like this some day… And I had to make this picture to go with the song, Debussy + RAC is too good. Outstanding Track of the Month: Deadmau5 - HR 8938 Cephei Deadmau5 released a track, named after the north star, a few weeks ago on his Soundcloud channel. It rose in listens extremely quickly, and Mau5trap released it on Beatport shortly after where it quickly hit #1 on the overall Beatport Chart. It's one of my favourite tracks from Joel in the last while, and is my favourite style of his - melodic, rolling, downtempo. Deadmau5 - HR 8938 Cephei by fuckmylife [...]
♫ Claude Debussey - Clair de Lune (RAC Analog Synthesizer Version) RAC. Only three letters but undeniably powerful. Any long time readers of TBE will recognize those letters as clearly as FBI, CIA or perhaps more significantly, RMX, which is what they do best (and I do mean THE best). Flipping the script a a bit here, Andre decided to take a whack at a cover song on a recent Friday evening. Armed with a few analog synths and his delicate aural sensibilities he made this piece of reworked beauty. He even [...]

New Fav Track Claude Debussy's "Clair de Lune" likely falls into the category of one of your favorite peices you've never knew you loved. The instrumental piece dances gracefully through the moonlight you provide. RAC's rendition provides a bit of nostalgia featuring a Minimoog model D and Juno-60. Listen to the wonderful outcome below. Claude Debussy - [...]
A sometimes problematic take on Ravel's piano concertos that still yields an interesting counterpoint to more mainstream readings.

MP3: Claude Debussy - La Mer 2. "Jeux des vagues" from Quadromania CD1 - The Complete Orchestral Works , performed by Radio Luxemburg Orchestra under the direction of Louis de Forment Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts with the ease of a man who has world and time enough to sculpt with sound. This is no small triumph for NYC's Avery Fisher Hall , where much can get swallowed if a conductor is not careful. The acoustics are kind to the Steinway, and dampen the [...]

MP3: Claude Debussy - La Mer, 3. Dialogue du vent et de la mer Welcome to a special treat courtesy of the graduate department at Peabody Conservatory . In honor of its degree candidates - in everything from instruments, vocals, and conducting - we've got an end of season festival of free music from the talented young peeps on the Baltimore Classical scene. I recommend you check out a few in the coming week. Not every performance is a prize recital, but some of them should be. [...]

This is my favorite La Mer (that's available on youtube). I also think I'm going to stop writing about any of these things and just share links. Dntel - (This is) The dream of Evan and Chan Life is full of possibilities (Plug Research / 2001) With Ben Giddard's penchant for pop hooks and Tamborello's ear for crafting intricately accessible and credible pop songs from the most abstract of electronic music soups, 'evan and chan' was ripe to be magnificent. The result is a gorgeous, kaleidoscopic dream, all textured sound washes, and electronic dynamics at the service of Giddard's keen lyrical edge. One of the most refreshing and fascinating pop songs, turn of the century. [...]

Last week, we headed down to the land of zen & cherry blossoms. This week, we're going back to Europe. To one of Japan's closest friends. They say romance is always in the air over there. So here's this week's compilation, in ode to France: COLLEEN - the happy sea AIR - once upon a time [...]
