Cliff Edwards - Night Owl Cliff Edwards went from being a carnie and a saloon singer to one of the forerunners of ukulele music and scat in the '20s. His style was known as " effin ", in which someone would try to impersonate a kazoo or a trumpet rather than making jazzy shooby dooby sounds and things like that. Also known as "Ukelele Ike" (that's how they used to spell it), Edwards came to prominence with his version of " Singing In The Rain [...]
For those who know me, you could probably have guessed it was only a matter of time before I did a post about Dumbo. I'll come clean: Dumbo is my favourite film, ever. It is 100% wasted on children, who cannot fully understand the humour and ingeniuty brewed in Walt Disney's mind and superbly displayed through Dumbo. Seriously. Three of these are classic gems from 30's vaudeville/blues/jazz sessions, two are modern ditties from one of the best bands ever. Uhh, not always safe for work. Click on the artist's/band's name for more info. Don't Tear My Clothes (No. 2) , State Street Swingers I'm Going To Give It To Mary With Love [...]
