I forgot to mention this earlier in the week, but it slipped my mind until I went to Hastings over the weekend. If you happen to find yourself bored sometime this week and happen to be looking for something to watch at home, do check out two great DVDs that were released last Tuesday. Two of my favorite films of 2006, Pan's Labryinth and The Fountain would both make for an excellent night with beautiful, thought-provoking films. I've praised both here on the site many times, [...]

2006 has been an amazing year for music, both on a personal discovery level, and on a widespread quality level. This fall has especially been fruitful...I've been making weekly stops at Bent Crayon to pick up at least 2 or 3 things pretty regularly since about August. Some of these newer purchases have made me re-examine the earlier part of the year, which started out just as amazing. For me, all this music overlaps in a gorgeous, haphazard way. This year's review will sort of reflect that, in a way that hopefully doesn't come off as completely pretentious [...]

4. Clint Mansell & Kronos Quartet, Soundtrack to the Motion Picture "The Fountain" The movie would be more bearable without the unyielding score by Clint Mansell, which somehow melds the worst of Minimalism, art rock, and New Age music. It's what you'd hear if your massage therapist wanted to induce a stroke. - David Edelstein, on the Fountain This soundtrack, to me, is the most awesomest soundtrack EVER! The first day I got it, I [...]

Welcome, welcome! It is on this day, the First of December, that I am proud to announce an all-new feature that will be taking place on a (somewhat) inconsistent basis up until Christmas. I am proud to present: FARONHEIT'S DECEMBER LIST-GASM (2006)! Yes, friends! All month long I will be creating various types of lists for your eyes to view and (perhaps) analyze! I'll be covering a lot of ground and discussing a lot of different topics along the way. Should be massive amounts of [...]
Thanksgiving always brings together some of my favorite things, food, family and movies! This year was no exception and among others I saw Darren Aronofsky's new film ' The Fountain ' which not only is a beautiful and thought-provoking film, but also has an awesome score by composer Clint Mansell, with the help of the Kronos Quartet and scottish heros Mogwai. Check out this track from the film and go to Clint's MySpace to hear an unreleased track from the film featuring vocals by Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons). CLINT'S MYSPACE [...]

finish it. Live your life to the fullest. Tell that person you love them. Live in the moment. After the final image of the film and the credits began to roll, I was left dumbstruck and in awe at what I had just watched. There were only 3 other people with me during the showing and once we got out the one collective word that [...]

I've been anticipating Darren Aronofsky's latest film The Fountain for close to a year. It always seemed intriguing to me, even though I knew almost nothing about it's plot. The visuals seemed arresting, and the basic subject matter of the Fountain of Youth/Tree of Life was what hooked me. This past Wednesday, I finally saw the film and it's probably one of the most difficult films to talk about. I won't go into a full review of a film here, but I will say this: the film is a song, a symphony, and what it is trying to [...]
Today has been a great day. Slept in for a while. Woke up to eat. Took another long nap listening to Explosions in the Sky, woke up to read this amazing 1970's era photography book I found. Basically, I've been super lazy. Adrian, over at All Things Go mentioned Explosions in the Sky today. They are one of my favourite artists who I have discovered this year. It really introduced me to a whole

Now that I have those computer issues that were nagging me completely squared away, i'm so happy to be able to get back to providing new content for the blog once more. What better way to get back into the swing of things than with this week's Daily Graboid. As the year starts to dwindle towards the end, so do the number of quality releases. This month still manages to provide us with lots of great albums though. Being that it's Thanksgiving in a couple of days, this will be my only post for the rest of [...]
Um, ok, so Aronofsky's doing another movie (and since I loved Pi almost as much as Moby-Dick I can only be excited about that), but! But! Mogwai, Clint Mansell, and the Kronos Quartet are reportedly doing the soundtrack. This, I can get ecstatic about. From BrightLight.co.uk : mogwai spent much of december 2005 and february 2006 in their 'castle of doom' studio in glasgow working on film scores. discussion on the imdb.com messageboard for [...]
