I've got some catching up posts to do to make up for songs I should have written about over the past few months but just never got around to. Starting us off is Sweden's Cloetta Paris. The duo is often written about in reference to their underground-level italo-disco music which has led to them becoming a blog favorite often mentioned in the same sentence as Sally Shapiro. You could just as easily compare her latest single, "You And Me By The Stereo," to a toned down version of Annie's cosmic electro-pop "Songs Remind Me Of [...]

Cloetta Paris Single em versão dance da cantora sueca Cloetta Paris, que tem uma voz muito legal. No MySpace da cantora dá pra escutar mais alguns de seus trabalhos. Saiba mais: myspace.com/cloettaparis Cloetta Paris - You and Me by the Stereo (Alex Dynamite Remix) Buy at iTunes Music Store

Sometimes remixes take away a little too much from the original song. In the case of this remix of the new single from Cloetta Paris I think Alex Dynamite added too much of his own sound and took away too much of Cloetta's vocals and presence. Nonetheless, a new song by Cloetta Paris is something to celebrate. This remix is from the single release You and Me by the Stereo on Tabocco Records. You and Me by the Stereo (Alex Dynamite Remix)

"Secret Eyes" by Cloetta Paris on Skywriting Records gets my Number 1 for 2008. I can't tell you the countless times I've played this album (and on repeat even) since it was released back in April. I wouldn't say I'm a big Italo disco fan (okay, I do love Sally Shapiro as well, so maybe that automatically qualifies me?). I'd be more apt to say I'm a Roger Gunnarsson fan (aka Clive Reynolds, Free Loan Investments, Nixon, etc). I can hear his influence all over this record. Genius! [...]

I love '80s pop and all, but this is a little ridiculous.... Sweden's CLOETTA PARIS falls somewhere between KIM WILDE and TIFFANY on the wayback-machine dial. Early PET SHOP BOYS . LADYTRON . Effin' ACE OF BASE , for Christ's sake. Oh, and... they list T.A.T.U. as an "influence." Seemingly without irony. Oh me-oh-me-oh-my. Just 64 days till I [...]

i guess that the *disco* whispers have turned into a dull roar.. its funny how music cycles work.. i suppose if you wanted to analyze the whole thing, it makes sense.. after 2 or 3 years of getting their ears blasted off by electro and fidget, people want a more chilled, yet equally dancey alternative... hmm.. (i hate to be someone to do a new bandwagon blog post but anyhoo..) there are many ways to look at the new disco charge, and many facets within it to be aware of.. first and most [...]

Bugger - there I was about to enthuse about "new" Swedish synth-pop duo Cloetta Paris, when a cursory Google search revealed that they've been around for over a year and have been written about by at least a squillion blogs by now. Ah well. I'll press on regardless, as I really like what I've heard of them so far; including the following rather spiffing cover versions of a pair of hoary old 80s chestnuts: John Parr's St Elmo's Fire and Sir Shakin' of Stevens's Cry Just A Little Bit . (You may remember a while [...]

Cloetta Paris - Secret Eyes

You'd have to be on another planet not to at least have heard of Buffet Libre's 80's cover project. The Spanish website has embarked on the auspicious mission of covering all the great songs from the 80's. They've signed up a ton of great bands and are giving all the music away for free. I'd been staying away until now, but with this Billy Idol cover by Friday Bridge I can remain quiet no longer. After listening to this sterling cover I now want to go though the entire site and listen to all [...]
Buffetlibre DJ's have instigated a major 80s cover and remix project by the name of 'Rewind'. It features different artists spanning the globe, covering and remixing popular 80s tunes. The next edition will also be accompanied by a new mixtape courtesy of Buffetlibre Dj’s, highlighting the most electronic moments of Rewind with a release on July 15th. The second and final part is set for release on 1st September. First up we've got a track for you, the Rewind premier, Shakin' Stevens's "Cry Just A Little Bit" covered by Swedish band [...]

Getting this column up every week on Friday is proving to be a bit more difficult than I initially anticipated. So, I've made the executive decision post The Weekly Everything as more of a surprise. It will still be posted weekly, but the day will be chosen at random. I think people underestimate the time all this blogging shit takes. Anyhow, we're back with more submissions for your eardrums. ELLIOT vs. Santogold vs. Missy - Missy Lights (320 kbps) I'm going to start this off with the most [...]

One cannot help wondering if this fascination/appreciation of the eighties has gone a little too far, when a band records a cover version of a Shakin’ Stevens track? However the music/sound of Swedish duo Cloetta Paris has an almost tongue-in-check novelty to it, so perhaps (hopefully) their cover version isn't meant to be taken too seriously? If you happen to be so fortunate to no longer being able to recall the original by Michael Baratt Shakin' Stevens , look no further [...]

Viva Buffetlibre ! Long live the "Rewind" project. If all of the results turn out the way that they have so far, we are all going to be blown the fuck away as soon as the group's collection drops July 1. For sure. (mp3) Cloetta Paris - Cry A Little Bit (Shakin' Stevens cover) Godspeed!

Apparently I'm terribly late to the party when it comes to Cloetta Paris , as the Swedish duo has already gained a lot of attention for their sweet sounding Italian-disco music for the past year or so. Oh well. I'm going to post about them anyway. And not only because the "Cloetta" part of their name makes me think of the Scandinavian company that makes candy and yummy chocolate . Mmmm. Wait, what was I talking about again? Oh, right - Cloetta Paris ! Their debut album, "Secret Eyes" is available on [...]
More electronic goodness from the excellently named James Pants with Ka$h . Because the Ox loves the Vanilla Swingers so much, here are two more great songs from their first upcoming LP: Danger In The Past and I'll Stay Next To You . The Black Diamond Heavies have a case of the deep soulful blues with Bidin' My Time . Cloetta Paris can show [...]

Yes, i am alive. Unfortunately I have been sitting in a big shiny building, not unlike the ones in Fight Club that blow up in the end, all day in training classes this week. So to make up for lost time, here are some of our favorite songs that showed up in our inbox this week. Enjoy: Asia Argento vs. Antipop - Vampy Remix (The Glass) "Vampy is a dark, sexy, electro collaboration between cult icon Asia Argento on vocals and Antipop (founding member of Telepopmusik) on production." Whatever that [...]

Last year we introduced you to the Sally Shapiro-esque Cloetta Paris - we were all hot for their similar icy, italo-disco style. Well the duo is back and with a full length release on Skywriting Records . The record comes out on 4/22, and you can pre-order it through their website - for only $10 which includes shipping! Omg, I love a bargain. And "Secret Eyes" makes me super happy. It reminds me of like twenty of my favorite songs blended together: Cloetta Paris - "Secret Eyes" [...]
I guess I was first introduced to Italo Disco through hearing Sally Shapiro's Disco Romance last January (even though it's really only paying dues to true Italo Disco artists of the 1980's). One of the most poingant images I have in my head, in relation to Sally Shapiro, is listening to Disco Romance while carefully driving down a winding road somewhere in Boone. Snow was falling, the roads were patched in ice, and I had just spent the day skiing and eating Italian (italo?) food with Grey and Mr. Ahhh(h?). To me, this time of year seems [...]
What we see here is not a scan of a grainy, vintage photo from someone's grandma's album. She's Cloetta Paris, the italo disco princess from Stockholm, Sweden. There's little known about Cloetta Paris for now. The only source of information is her MySpace and she doesn't talk much there. We don't know if Cloetta Paris is actually her real name (in which case, it'd be pretty cool), whether Cloetta Paris is just her or many people, whether she's unsigned or with a label. Well, it's only a matter of time. Last year, I was quite infatuated with [...]

i offer you a tango in the dark/you're looking at a girl with a broken heart.
