NAME: Clogs PROGRESS REPORT: Prepping their album, The Creatures In The Garden Of Lady Walton , for release on March 2nd. Featuring Sufjan Stevens, and My Brightest Diamond's Shara Worden. Poor Padma Newsome. The Clogs singer/songwriter/instrumental ist had to use simpler vocabulary and visual metaphors just so I could understand how he and fellow Clogs members Bryce Dessner (also of The National), Rachael Elliott and Tom Kozumplik wrote and recorded the band's long-coming album The Creatures In The Garden Of Lady Walton . Well, explaining why it's taken them four years [...]

Clogs, the instrumental outfit featuring guitarist Bryce Dessner (of The National), bassoonist Rachael Elliott, percussionist Thomas Kozumplik, and violist Padma Newsome have announced the March 2nd release of their fifth studio album, titled The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton . But here's where it gets really cool: Newsome composed the 10-track effort with extensive vocal work from Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond. What's more, National bandmates Aaron Dessner and Matt Berninger, the legendary Sufjan Stevens, and the Osso String Quartet all lent their talents for guest contributions. Talk about friends with benefits. [...]
We're pretty excited about this one. Clogs is the creative collective that includes My Brightest Diamond's Shara Worden , Matt Berninger and Aaron Dessner of The National , and Sufjan Stevens . They have a new album, The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton , arriving March 2nd on Brassland (available digitally 1/26) Where previous Clogs output has leaned towards the instrumental, this album prominently features vocals from the amazing Shara Worden on over half of the [...]

BAM has been advertising for this "Shuffle Mode" show with uncharacteristic aplomb, I guess ticket sales have been sloooow so far. Anywho, Sufjan Stevens and Shara Worden have just been added to the bill, so that should drum up some more interest at the box office, I wonder what they will actually be doing. Buy tickets now for SHUFFLE MODE: BP, BELL ORCHESTRE, & CLOGS , and enter code 9824 for a special Buy-1-Get-1 FREE Deal! WHAT : Shuffle Mode: BP, Bell Orchestre & Clogs with [...]

Photo by Sergey Belyakov My band of the year , The National , head down under for the first time this very month where they will play eight shows in four cities beginning January 15th. The five mainstays of the Brooklyn based outfit, Matt Berninger, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and Bryan and Scott Devendorf, will be joined by unofficial sixth member (and multi-instrumentalist) Padma Newsome. Padma is Australian, a native of the land where the toilets swirl counterclockwise [...]

My friend Elizabeth is going through a break-up (of sorts). Reminds me of my brush with heartache earlier this year. "Pencil Stick" - Clogs During the worst of it, a friend gave me a copy of the book When Things Fall Apart , by Pema Chodron. I loved every page, every morsel of wisdom, and devoured it nightly before I would fall asleep (which was often quite difficult). Chodron offers so much solace to the lost and broken-hearted. Cool loneliness allows us [...]
Clogs - Pencil Stick Sometimes we gotta take a break from the bloops, bleeps and jangle here at music for robots, and settle in for some neo classical. One of my favorite bands in the Genre is Clogs on Brassland. Coincidentally, the band shares members with the National, but their sound in entirely different - mostly built around Padme Newsome's viola. I bring them up today because they've got a cool string of dates in NYC coming up - it'll help you hipster kids add a little culture to your lives outside of canned beer and mustaches. If you've never...
Clogs isn't a really aesthetic band name. You end up either thinking of clompy wooden shoes or (in my case) some giant hairball that backs up your shower drain. Which is sad and ironic, because if there was a dictionary for sounds and you looked up aesthetic , I'm pretty sure there would be a picture of these four people playing their viola, bassoon, guitar, and percussion. That's all it takes - four instruments that burrow into your soul somewhere and set up house. I'm the first to admit that I [...]
We are Man Man Ecouter Engrish Bwudd Un (...)

I'm pretty surprised by the year-end lists I've seen on other blogs. The consensus, it seems, is that 2006 turned out to be an off-year. If not bad, then at least mediocre. I've seen lists where the writer claims that he can't think of ten worthy albums and others where people have sounded less than excited about their end results. That wasn't my take at all. I had real trouble capping my list at thirty and seriously considered expanding it to fifty. I was overwhelmed by how much good music there was in a wide variety of genres. In my [...]

Track 2: Clogs - I Used to Do Today, we bring you the sweet melodic music of the Clogs as Track 2 of the Brassland/MFR online EP. The Clogs are a four-person, part-time improvisational and part-time compositional from the...

This weekend I was fortunate enough to pack into a small room and see some of the more talented musicians around. The Music Now festival was the scene. I spoke about it last week already . Bryce Dessner of The National was the co-curator for the event and I could not have been more impressed with what he put together. First let me set the atmosphere. The room was the equivalent of a black box that had been specially desinged and decorated for the event. Karl Jensen contributed some fantastic artwork to the show [...]
Bryce Dessner of The National organized the event known as Music Now here in Cincinnati. It kicked off Wednesday night and last night those in attendance were treated to a set from Bryce's other band, Clogs. Clogs played with folk/electronic outfit, The Books. Ill be inattendance Saturday for Glenn Kotche and Sunday for Bell Orchestre. Have a look at this recent article in the Cincinnati Post. "The thing I see about Cincinnati is that there is such a healthy vibrant independent music scene in town," [...]
