Justin Maurer of Clorox Girls vs. tortas, toilets and ball-punchers in this excerpt from his upcoming chapbook, "Seventeen Television," out on Vol. 1 Brooklyn-soon! "Now I will rape you." The tiny Mexican hairdresser moved swiftly, waist and pelvis well ahead of his feet. I kept him at bay with my beer bottle and outstretched arm, offering a clink against his bottle. I managed to continually maneuver around him at arm's length. "No, somos amigos ," I offer. " Salut, mi amigo ." "I thought maybe you were interesting [...]
(out now on 17 TV ) Portland based all-male trio Clorox Girls power through catchy punk tunes that echo their late 70s punk-originator-influences on their new 7". They open with "Genocide," a rollicking, danceable track with a pop sensibility that belies the pessimistic verse "we can't win, that's the truth of it." B-side track "Bad Girls" kicks off with a rumbling drum beat, alternating a simple catchy repeated chorus of the song's title with howls that veer toward being sweet and engaging rather than animalistic or threatening. Playing in various incarnations for nearly a decade, Clorox Girls [...]

claire cronin The Spits are one of those bands keeping the planet from collapsing in on itself from pure shame and every self-titled album they have done—which is tons—is full of feral robot punk that will get you demoted at your job if you happen to have a job. They play Friday with Bleached, Clorox Girls and more . Win tickets here or buy 'em here. This reissued interview by the legendary John Henry. You guys have been around for quite [...]

David Forth Dávila 666 is a garage punk band from Puerto Rico who sing in Spanish over fuzzed-out guitars and a rollicking rhythm section. Bassist A.J. joins us to talk about the benefits of always being able to see in 3-D and the benefits of always doing what you wanna. This interview by Kristina Benson. I was looking at the video for 'Tu.' Do a lot of Puerto Rican bands make music videos that depict them performing cunnilingus on their girlfriends and then killing people? [...]
Justin Maurer has been the leader of Clorox Girls for about a decade, has narrowly escaped organ theft in Turkey on at least one occasion, and has a book of fiction coming out this spring. Dan Collins and Daniel Clodfelter catch up with him in Long Beach at the Pike.
L.A.'s drunk-punk scene wouldn't be the same without Blaque Chris, and since everybody else and their dad is opining about their favorite albums of the decade on our site, we figured, hey, why not Chris?

This reconfigured Left Coast trio churns out happy, boppy, sub-two-minute punk songs... one of them in French!
Rock Star Photography has been updated with all sorts of new stuff. I finally got motivated and transferred a bunch of pictures from the digital over to the computer and got galleries made. New pix of Peelander-Z, Los Craptaculares, the Clorox Girls, Iron Guts Kelly, and KTP. They look sharp, especially ...

I just got a nice gift of Central Services (pic) from Fanatic Promotion , I've still got some Dora Flood , some SXSW band-age, and some other goodies. What I don't have right now is an excess of time, so let's get down to bidness. (I desperately want to hyphenate that Central Services song, but will post it as given.) Central Services - 4 Letter Word mp3 Dora [...]

At least I managed to go into town for [...]
Due to a massive lack of planning on my part, there?s no actual album to download this week. However, thanks to the fact that most of the bands and record labels that I like being clued in to this whole ?free music? thing, we have an alternative. That alternative is ...

Second part of SXSW 2007 punk list. This one has fare more gothic metal feel to it. Not my usual flavor, but the dark gothic is really pleasant, in romantic sort of way. (Femur and Los Llamarada) I hope you enjoy this rather long punk list. I don't mind using this for drinking soundtrack. " SXSW 2007. Shiny Punk with Late Night Sweet " 01. El Jesus de Magico : New Moses (Columbus, OH) 02. Carbonas : Phone Booth (Atlanta, GA) 03. CPC Gangbangs [...]
I have to push that monstrous best/of list down a lot, so here is some local punk rock. I am not entirely sure why they call themselves the Clorox Girls as they are all dudes, but regardless, they are fully capable of rocking even the most uptight socks off. It is not often that I start a one-man mosh, but once you've listened to Don't Take Your Life five times in a row, it is all but impossible not to. You shouldn't expect anything epic, as their longest song on two (rather short) albums is 2:20, but if [...]
