[[ This is a content summary only. The Kills :: Blood Pressures Really solid album from the Kills this year. Crunchy and gritty all the way through. Impressed! RM MP3: Satellite - The Kills Miracle Fortress :: Was I the Wave? MP3: Everything Works - Miracle Fortress [...]
Aussie band, Cloud Control, touring with The Drums, is highlighted as our most recent down under band to keep a look out for.
Note to directors: Never put the one girl with armpit hair up front. Even if, as is most likely the case in the Miden vid, she is your sister. Still a great video, for all the obvious reasons, and our favorite of the week. -Matt

Turnout Records, 2011 Australians have always seemed to run a strange horse in the race of the hipster-driven aughts. Though arguably having a heavy hand in shaping and defining modern indie pop with acts like Architecture in Helsinki , most Aussie bands since then - whether by systematic design or their own disinterest and ineptitude - have failed to make any significant splash on our end of the Earth. Even local legend Nick Cave - boasting a revolving-door band of Bad Seeds that hail from so many different countries that Australia is often nothing more [...]
This Week's Best Releases should keep you busy over the long holiday week. Between family reunions and turkey dinners, listen to Yelawolf's finally released debut, experience what Australia and the UK already know about Cloud Control , relive the songs from Death Cab For Cutie's Code and Keys , and get ready for winter with Kate Bush's 50 Words For Snow . Wild Man - Kate Bush // Buy [...]
So-so effort from Australian freak-folkers. This Australian outfit gets things off to a nice start here -- a marriage of Avi Buffalo and Fleet Foxes, latter day U2's swagger gets thrown in with touches of Beatles-esque vocal harmonies. The good stuff is most evident on the very tip of the album's front end when the song quality is fairly high and the ambitions are low. The opening "Meditation Song #2 (Why, Oh Why)" drones and dribbles like the Black Angels...

Hey, we're Cloud Control. We met in High School. We grew up in the Blue Mountains and we always get asked about that. It might influence us a little bit being from there, maybe it just makes us more chilled. We got together to enter a band competition and we weren't that great but somehow [...]

Cloud Control, by Kenny McMurtrie By Kenny McMurtrie October 5, 2011 Safe to say this was the best gig I've seen in the last twelve months, helped in no small part by the fact that the venue have sorted out the soundsystem and it no longer induces head pain. All praise to Cloud Control though for a loose and thoroughly engaging set that easily showed them and their material at their best. Totally lacking in pretension, the dynamic they displayed was like a psychy Dandy Warhols [...]

Round about this time last week when the likelihood of the recent UK Indian-summer actually happening, (well Indian-five-days anyway), seemed remote, Cloud Contro l began their 14 date UK tour at Exeter's Cavern Club. The weather last Tuesday could not have been more at odds with the bands' hazy, psychedelic sound if it tried, as the city was doused in drizzle and enveloped in a clingy mist on what was a thoroughly miserable day. However, before the Australian music prize conquering band's music could remind us that we are familiar with the occasional ray of sunshine, we [...]

I love me some good strumming guitars and the boys in Boston band Slowdim know how to do that well. Check out their latest EP Spirals that has a 60's vibe to it with a dreamy pop feel that I can't get enough of. The tracks are available as free downloads via their bandcamp page . Here's a couple of my faves "Wishing Well" and "Don't Cough Me Out" . Fans of bands like Wilco [...]

The Australian indie-rock scene has seen a recent surge as of late with the huge international success of bands like The Temper Trap. Cloud Control is just one of the upcoming acts attempting followup their successes and continue to give the scene a strong voice. Hailing from the expansive Blue Mountains just outside Sydney, Australia, the band brings together the pastoral folk-pop of their upbringing and some more psychedelic and alternative rock influences in their debut LP, Bliss Release. Bliss Release, out in the United States on September 6th via Infectious Music, can be streamed in its [...]
With buzz bands like Cults, Givers, Tennis, and every other single-word-named group throwing their hat in the ring for the title of Band of the Moment, nostalgic, poppy music is nearly inescapable these days. As catchy as their melodies may be, as sugary as the vocals are (and, man, are they sweet), there's always something missing. Whether its structure, cohesiveness, or a sound that never wears, the albums stick for a listen or two and then fade. Australia's Cloud Control clearly missed the memo, because Bliss Release - while certainly poppy and undeniably nostalgic - not [...]
