I was planning on waiting until February when this album becomes available on their website to talk about it, but I just couldn't do it. This is THE best album of the year, and most likely will be the best of the year for me depending on how great Andrew Bird's album is. I love Cloud Cult, hence the reason they were in my top five albums on my top 50 in '05 list, and when I heard their follow up to the amazing Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus was going to be released this year, I almost [...]
I have to send many, many, many thanks over to Ryan @ Wolf Notes for making it his duty to inform me of the greatness of Cloud Cult's new album The Meaning Of 8 almost every day since he discovered (and publicized) the band's greatness himself. So far...

Wilco fever hits on Friday when tickets go on sale for their April show at the Enmore Theatre. Is everyone as excited as I am for this one? These guys are just seriously great. They have a new record due to drop in May. I recently found a link that compiles all the new stuff they have been playing live in the last year. Go here for a preview of what we can expect. This is my fav song- MP3: What Light (live) "Some Loud Thunder", the [...]
I have to send many, many, many thanks over to Ryan @ Wolf Notes for making it his duty to inform me of the greatness of Cloud Cult 's new album The Meaning Of 8 almost every day since he discovered (and publicized ) the band's greatness himself. So far I've listened to the first eight songs on the nineteen track long album, and I swear six of them have been very impressive. Most of the songs on The Meaning Of 8 can be best [...]

I just got a preview of the new Cloud Cult album The Meaning Of 8 , their follow up 2005s amazing Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus . Its out in April on Earthology but if you order at their online store you can have it by February and also give Cloud Cult a bigger slice of that cheese . Its absolutely worth checking out, Pitchforkmedia and Pop Matters both use the word genius to describe the last album. This album is the obvious next step in the life of Cloud Cult, its [...]
Where Cloud Cult 's criminally underrated Advice From The Happy Hippopotamus was centered around themes of flesh, its follow-up-due out April 8th-seems more concerned with what's happening underneath it: Featuring a sweeping story arc that revolves around a deaf eight year-old girl, The Meaning Of 8 is ostensibly about the chemicals that make one deaf in the first place, and, later on, the ones that make us tick ("Take Your Medicine") and those that distort our reality. In "Brain Gateway," Minowa sings "Take me to the place where life comes to get away," and [...]
Cloud Cult are all set to release their newest album, The Meaning of 8 this year; here's an advance preview! MP3: Cloud Cult - Pretty Voice The lyrics for "Pretty Voice" read like a song description from Said the Gramophone. Before we're even fifteen seconds into the song, they literally start the ...

Almost two years ago I was first exposed to Cloud Cult by the song "Underneath Your Skin" of their last album Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus and I was hooked by their unconventional pop songs from that moment on. This year after nearly two years of extensive touring and recording the band will release its follow up album The Meaning of 8 . Once again the band has turned down offers from big labels to focus on their environmental ethos and put it out themselves. The new album is full of the same quirky pop [...]
After putting up my favorite albums of 2006 , I thought I'd venture in the other direction by making a list of personal disappointments from this year. But then I changed my mind. After all, I'm trying to be more positive and not dwell on the negative, right? Right. So instead, I'm going to mention a few bands/artists that I'm looking forward to hearing from in 2007. If you really want to see the albums that disappointed me, go [...]
Hope everyone had a safe NYE! Here are some tracks appropriate for today. Regular posts should return tomorrow... Kate Havnevik - New Day The Breeders - New Year Asobi Seksu - New Years Ursula 1000 - Here Comes Tomorrow [...]
(photo) Good news for anyone with a jam-packed CMJ schedule, or anyone otherwise worried about getting into what promises to be a packed show at the Merc Friday night: Cloud Cult’s added a last-minute show on the main stage of the Knitti

Not sure if you heard about this, but on Friday the 13th a Houston cop tried to forcibly arrest Adam of the Two Gallants . . . while he was performing onstage. Yeah, this cop actually got on stage and tried to arrest Adam in front of the entire audience. Why? Because there had been a noise complaint, at a music venue, during the Two Gallants (sorry, they aren't quite stadium-rocking metal-volume no matter how much you like them). So Officer Cowboy Balls is scuffling with Adam and Tyson on stage, and surprise surprise, the crowd protests. Wanna know [...]
Cloud Cult - Take Your Medicine (unreleased)
Annuals are a NC based band led by 19 year old Adam Baker. I've only heard five songs from their upcoming album Be He Me and, dare I say it, if the rest of the album is as good as those five songs, this could end up being my album of the year. The song "Brother" has climbed to the top spot in my songs of the year list, with "Carry Around" coming in close behind. If you caught the Pitchfork write-up about Annuals, you saw them describing the band as a fantasy hybrid of [...]

Cloud Cult, courtesy of mistylwhite Every Monday-Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. The podcast features exclusive in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent musicians that KEXP DJs think listeners should hear, along with songs from more well-known artists. All this week, we're offering songs from artists that are performing at this year's Bumbershoot . Today's featured selection is a rare draft version of a song from Cloud Cult ... Cloud Cult - Take [...]

I'm back with your Friday theme post. This week's theme is, well, body parts (obviously). I've kept it clean, so no songs about genitals (though I do have the entire catalogue of Peaches). Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Why Does My Head Hurt So? Blake Babies (feat. Evan Dando) - Brain Damage Devendra Banhart - Long Haired Child Go West - We Close Our Eyes Rainer Maria [...]
In my home there will never be any carpet, though there might be persian rugs. In my home there will be wooden floors and a corner for fire. There will be plants, but not too many, and no television. There will be books that will move to other houses when they are done being read. There will be spring and fall, but never New York City summers. There will be photos and paintings and a very comfortable chair next to a flask of apple juice. Curtains will be drawn on the wall. Seven miles above the earth. [...]
