Cloud Nothings released the fantastic Attack on Memory a few weeks ago and now comes this, a new video for its opening track No Future / No Past. The video was co-produced by Urban Outfitters as part of the UO Music Video Series. Cloud Nothings - "No Future / No Past" Official Video from Urban Outfitters on Vimeo .

Pate stand Frontmann Dylan Baldi, dem zwanzigjährigen Jungspund aus Cleveland, die alte Garde: "I more or less memorized every guitar solo on the [...]

Tweet I'd been sleeping on Cloud Nothings until recently (so to speak). They'd not crossed my horizon at all until a friend recommended their Attack On Memory LP, which was released last week. This being the man who has throughout my lifetime given me Turbonegro , Minus the Bear , Interpol and At The Drive-In amongst many others, I decided to give them a listen. I picked 5 or so songs. it sounded like [...]

With South by Southwest now just a month away, we thought today would be a good day to announce one of our events. As per the above poster, Consequence of Sound will set up shop at the Beauty Bar on Wednesday, March 14th for the first annual CoSigns unofficial day party. (If you don't get it, click here .) Presented by Louisville, Kentucky's Forecastle Festival , the six-hour long event will feature eight bands playing two stages, with the mighty Cloud Nothings and Titus Andronicus serving as headliners. [...]

Cloud Nothings do not qualify as Douglas Martin Music. 1. If you could go from lo-fi guitar pop to mall-punk to Serious Punk Musician That Everybody Should Take Seriously in about two-and-a-half years, wouldn't you prefer to have a wider template than Wipers and emocore? 2. Are we witnessing the Great Emo Revival of 2012? If so, will you wake me up when September ends? 3. Vivian Girls followed through on their longstanding Wipers influence and got panned nearly across the board for it, while a band full [...]

Despite suffering debasement from low-quality acts and living as a cultural punchline, emo has persevered as a legitimate sub-genre. Songwriters like Jesse Lacey , Patrick Stickles , Max Bemis and David Bazan have managed to preserve the essence of intelligence, self-awareness and honesty that has defined the genre as far back as Minor Threat, while still progressing the sounds in their own ways. After an explosion in popularity (and an equal and opposite backlash) in the late 90s and early Aughts, great emo records are certainly harder to find than they were 20, or [...]

The new album from Cloud Nothings, Attack on Memory , was one of the first in 2012 to make some serious waves. Right now it has everyone talking, and what they're talking a lot about is the return of emo. Now, if you're anything like me, you might hear the word "emo," and run for the hills. The genre may or may not bring back bad memories of those annoying kids from your high school, gathered in a pack outside the cafeteria, listening to those whiny bands who played on the radio and wore a lot of eyeliner (but [...]

...in which we debut TVD's proper LP Review Column, Graded on a Curve. Buckle up. —Ed. There are a whole lot of bands around these days that sound a whole lot like the '90s, and Cloud Nothings is one of the best. It's important to remember that for many youthful artists and bands currently on the scene, the music of indie's explosion from twenty years ago can sorta serve as Their Own Private Classic Rock. The first big point in Cloud Nothings' favor is that the recordings don't [...]

There has been rather a lot of discussion about the current state and future of Indie-rock. Many critics too, have been quick to proclaim it's death, as has the slew of half-arsed middle of the road bands claiming they are destined to save this undoubtedly ailing genre. Of course, talk is cheap. Rather than chase [...]
Cloud Nothings - Attack On Memory By Paul Faller Discussing the title of the third Cloud Nothings record in a recent interview with Pitchfork, Dylan Baldi said that he "wanted to make it apparent that it's an attack on the memory of what the band was." It's fair to say that Attack On Memory makes good on this promise, marking a significant progression from the lo-fi pop punk sound of his previous LPs. As if to get his [...]
Catching up with Drake , always catching up with Drake. -ed. Dylan Baldi's Cloud Nothings get it together on Attack on Memory Words : Drake LeLane As the first month of 2012 nears its close, we have our very first year-end contender with the sophomore release from Cloud Nothings. Steve Albini's production combined with Dylan Baldi surrounding himself with a full band makes for a giant leap from his debut. Besides that, there are noteworthy releases from The [...]

Cloud Nothings ' self-titled album was one of my favourites of 2011, but the recent Attack on Memory ? I'm still not quite sure. It sounds huge, and there are still a few catchy moments that make it worth the price of admission, but, as I wrote about for The Tyee , I'm not quite sure I buy songwriter Dylan Baldi as a mopey grunger. Below is the video for "No Future/No Past." Bummer, man.

So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let's call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won't be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren't worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]

It's sad when the lofty statements around an album distort how it's perceived. Cloud Nothings ' main man Dylan Baldi has been keen to big up Attack On Memory as a declaration of opposition to the current norm of passive, lackadaisical reverb drenched indie, the title targeted squarely at its rampant nostalgia. But upon hearing it, it's not exactly the forward-thinking blast of radicalism you'd anticipate. Rather, the album really just offers up a slightly uglier, tougher past, one torn straight from the more noise-friendly independent rock of the late '80s and early '90s. We're talking the [...]

And GOD MODE week continues here @ GIMME TINNITUS... So, Mr. Dream has a new EP called Fatherland . The band released the following statement regarding the new album: what can we say? it's a fucking ep. six songs we wrote and recorded. the end. take two. fatherland is about an amusement park for fathers. Fatherland is set to be released on February 28th via the band's own GOD MODE Records (run by drummer Nick Sylvester). [...]

Cloud Nothings used to be mediocre. Cloud Nothings used to be forgettable. Cloud Nothings used to be a solo-project. Of their show supporting Crocodiles at the Camden Barfly , this time last year, I referred to their " brand of jangly pop-punk " as " upbeat and energetic but exceptionally bland and generic ". However, Cloud Nothings' new record – ' Attack On Memory ' – is the sound of a band revitalised. It is the sound of a band emerging as vital . [...]

'Hey Cool Kid' Dylan Baldi returns with his third album as Cloud Nothings , the follow-up to 2010's eponymous release. It was the lo-fi, scuzzy, drop-out sound that first endeared us to Cloud Nothings, and it's that sound that they progress with on Attack on Memory . Opener 'No Future/No Past' suggests a darker, spikier mood, delving into the realms of Nirvana and '90s grunge. It's not a particularly arresting introduction to the album: if Cloud Nothings are already in this much pain this early on in the [...]
