Photos from Friday, March 15 at SXSW 2013, including KENmode, Toro y Moi, Cloud Nothings, and a little band called Depeche Mode. The post SXSW 2013: Friday, March 15 appeared first on Treble: Music news, reviews, interviews and more .

It seems somewhat strange that getting to downtown Austin shortly before 2 feels like running late and that opportunities are being missed. Will there only be 12 hours of music instead of 14? How terrible. How slothful. While there may be no rest for the weary, sometimes the weary get to rest. On the way downtown, there is solace in the comment from Foxygen's Sam France, who in feeling that they weren't at their best explained that they generally aren't awake and playing music this early. photos by Sarah Frankie Linder ; words by Andrew Sacher Cloud Nothings at The Main, Austin, 3/14/2012 Cloud Nothings spent the bulk of 2012 on the road in support of their great Attack on Memory album and we caught them in NYC a bunch of times throughout the year. And not that we'd ever turn down seeing them again, but when they announced that they're [...]

Cloud Nothings , they know how to rock. When I first heard about them, I had heard they were a DIY sort of rock band that embraced a lo-fi rock kind of sound. I hadn't particularly paid much attention to them aside from the fact that one of my friends seem to be BFF's with the lead singer. It has seem that in the few years since their self titled album first made waves in the music world, the band has grown up. Dylan Baldi is no longer a clean shaven short hair basement singer for his [...]

Ohio noise-poppers, Cloud Nothings have showcased new material at this year's SXSW. At the tail end of their Attack On Memory tour-cycle after releasing the LP back in January 2012, Dylan Baldi and co performed a yet-unnamed new cut set to appear on their "noisier" fourth album. Said new material was described by Consequence of Sound editor Michael Roffman as being "Sonic Youth/MBV"-sounding. It's not yet known when the new record is due, but it's said to be called [...]

photo by Dave Lichterman Divine Fits , a super-group of sorts featuring Britt Daniel from Spoon, New Bomb Turk's Sam Brown, and Wolf Parade's Dan Boeckner, played their first show together in Austin last year before going on to release one of the best LPs of 2012 with A Thing Called Divine Fits . The came full circle last night by playing some brand new music, again in Austin, atthis year's SXSW festival (which KEXP is covering! ). Below is the fan-shot clip from their set of the [...]

Well yes, Consequence of Sound made it to Austin safely, thanks for asking. Check out our brief mini-night coverage below, and come back tomorrow for the first full day of photos and words from our staff. Monday, March 11th Passion Pit - Hype Hotel - 8:00 p.m. [...]

I never got around to mentioning, but for anyone who looks at my mixes over at 8tracks , I finally got around to a "Best Of 20123 mix and put it up there, instead of the Opentape thing I had been doing for the last few years that I doubt anyone ever used. Here's the tracklist for 2012 : 01. Moses Gold - Powder and Blood 02. Grimes - Oblivion 03. Serengeti feat. Yoni Wolf - Geti Life 04. Sean Born - Pour Out Liquor 05. Divine Fits [...]

>> Birmingham, England-based indie demigods Johnny Foreigner let loose a torrent of good news Tuesday at its webtumblrthingo , where it reported working on no fewer than three (!!!) new releases. According to this blog post , the quartet is prepared to self-release imminently via its BigCartel what it is calling a "mini album + photo set thing." Proceeds from the sale of the collection will apparently go to paying increased rent on the band's rehearsal space, which we think is an admirable goal. In June the band plans to release a new EP [...]
![CHESTER ENDERSBY GWAZDA’S DOOZIE OF A DEBUT [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4817685_lg.jpg)
Chester Endersby Gwazda’s debut is nothing short of astounding. Shroud is an impeccably produced, well-thought out release, and it deserves a wider audience. I first heard Gwazda recently as an opening act for Dan Deacon , after which he re-visited the stage as part of Deacon’s band. Turns out, Gwazda has produced both of Dan Deacon’s last records, several Future Islands records, and the latest (and amazing) Cloud Nothings' Attack on Memory , just to name a few. So, there’s a reason Shroud sounds so put [...]

Pissed Jeans' Honeys BY JORDAN MAINZER Apparently they’ve been eating the yellow snow . Some of the best music of the past few months has expanded upon the wisecrack-heavy legacy of Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Leonard Cohen, and The Modern Lovers. From lamenting about job prospects to apologizing for ogling women through punky, sarcastic humor, indie bands have lately avoided the self-righteousness that can occur when rockers explore "important" topics (in other words, these bands are even further from U2 in tone than in sound). [...]

Words by Brendan It's (roughly) that time when we look back and analyze the past year, identify our favorite things. I say "roughly" because, well, some people do these kinds of things in December, but that seems premature. We took a little while, relaxed, let the feeling of 2012 pass through us, and now here we are. (Okay, we had a lot of work to catch up on, and were just a little lazy, too. What of it?) I [...]
