So remember what you were doing 7 years ago? Kind of fuzzy. Well do you remember the song "Hey Now Now" by The Cloud Room. Hells yes I do....actually their whole debut S/T LP was... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

The Deli was a 1 year old baby when The Cloud Room came out with the super catchy single " Hey Now Now " - but we did take notice at the time, and featured the band in one of our first issues. After a break up, which truned out to be a 7 year hiatus, the band is back with a new album entitled "Zither," which reintroduces us to its catchy, "Let's Dance" era Bowiesque pop. Check out the first single "Crashing in Love", streaming below. Crashing In Love by The Cloud Room

De meest deprimerende dag van het jaar. Maar wat een prachtig nummer. New Order - Blue Monday Flunk - Blue Monday Nouvelle Vague - Blue Monday The Cloud Room - Blue Monday

One of the reasons we are finding it near-fucking impossible to relocate Yusuf Azak's album launch is because we are staggering into the realm of the Christmas party. The part of the calendar between, well, pretty much now and the end of the year is almost entirely filled with Christmas parties either of the dull kind (i.e.: work) or the fun kind (i.e.: music). So, I am looking at my calendar, and having fairly successfully laid off the feasting and carousing since we returned from China, all I see ahead of me is week upon week filled with [...]

Would you believe that I started blogging on Out the Other five years ago today? Seriously, I can't believe you guys keep reading, and tuning in to the radio show, and pretending to care what I babble about as long as you get to hear the good, good tunes. So happy birthday, Out the Other. You've been good to me these past five years. And lieu of gifts, I will happily welcome stories about good bands and tunes you were introduced to via this humble little blog. In honor of the occasion, I dipped into [...]

With the Olympics and the Super Bowl it's been an ad frenzy the last couple of months, so it seems like the perfect time for another Commercial Watch. For those unaware, every once in a while I showcase a few of my favorite songs on commercials that you're probably skipping over with your fancy Tivo / DVR machines. Click the links to watch the commercials (when available) and download the MP3s. AT&T: Apollo Ohno This is a visually a very [...]

The Cloud Room - Hey Now Now I read somewhere that this song was written over one horrible week, while the singer waited on the results of an HIV test, and his doctor flew abroad on holiday. I'm not sure if it's true, but it sounds about right: this whole song is about worrying things better, wishing for the good things in your honest little life not to be outweighed by anything else, and wishing it so bad that you'll do anything. As Internet-era songs go, this is an oldie but a goodie. [...]

100-81 | 80-61 | 60-41 | 40-21 | 20-1 80. The Postal Service, "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" Ben Gibbard's pretentions and wimpiness make Death Cab For Cutie's music a daunting tightrope to tread. Stay on, and you're treated to some great, romantic pop rock. But all too often, you're knocked off with glurgy, fey dreck whose supporting guitars sound like a pathetic attempt to sound tough. On top of James Tamborello's glitchy, blippy synths, though, Gibbard's voice is [...]

The Cloud Room - Blue Monday [New Order]

The Cloud Room, named after the Prohibition-era speakeasy at the top of the Chrysler Building, is a three piece band based out of Brooklyn, New York. They recently released an EP late last year named "Please Don't Always Kill Me", which includes a guest spot by Nicole Atkins. They also have a new EP coming as well as a new LP up their sleeves, which will be their second after a four year wait. Artist Website tCR @ Facebook tCR @ [...]

No, I'm not going to what must be music-heaven for every indie-lover, the SXSW-festival in Austin, Texas. But the schedule has now been released, and with that comes a lot of free music from the participants. Here are a few of my picks, and there will definitely be more over the next few weeks! The Von Bondies - This Is Our Perfect Crime [...]

A veritable orgy of independent film and music, in addition to serving as a state of the medium conference for industry types, the annual SXSW Festival is now in its 22nd year. Quincy Jones delivers the keynote address during the music portion of this year's conference, which also features performances by the likes of PJ Harvey & John Parish , The Meat Puppets , Devo , and The Decemberists , who are revealing their new Hazards of Love from start to finish with a performance on opening night. Bound Stems - " Happens To Us All Otherwise " I can hardly believe that we're already this far into July, but the fact that this year is flying by so quickly at least makes me feel better when looking ahead. For example, September 9th seems like a long way off - but really it's less than two months that we have to wait for the release of The Family Afloat , the sophomore full-length from Chicago's Bound Stems. If this first sample is any indication, it will [...]
Hey guys, gotta be quick this morning - still on my business trip. Check out The Cloud Room's cover of New Order's immortal "Blue Monday"! It's very Echo & The Bunnymen-ish to me. The Cloud Room - Blue Monday (New Order Cover) The Cloud Room official site The Cloud Room on MySpace
I was very influenced by the makeup of Claudia Cardinale in a film where she had very dark eyeliner. As soon as we hit on that for Penélope, everything changed. It was also very important to have an ample cleavage enhanced by strategically placed medallions, because that's one of the key images of Spanish motherhood, and motherhood is one of the key themes of this film. It was also very important that this woman have an ample arse. The arse is a symbol of optimism. I'm really sorry for those who do not possess a bottom but they can always [...]

(Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin) Via Chromewaves , I found this Web site called Buffet Libre, which recently posted Rewind: The '80s Covers Project , a four-hour (!) mix of '80s cover tunes -- downloadable for free . The collection has mash-ups (Yes vs. Howard Jones) and remixes (Madonna, Def Leppard, Pet Shop Boys), although it covers a surprisingly diverse array of genres -- from folk-pop to electro, hip-hop to straightforward rock. Notable artists contributing include Dragonette, [...]

The fellas in the NYC indie group The Cloud Room have kept the interwebs filled with new, free music lately. Last month they released another in their series of fake 7" singles, featuring downloads for "Sticks & Stones" and "T-Shirts" over on their MySpace page. Then out of nowhere today, we saw our inbox receiving another treat from the band: a cover of New Order's "Blue Monday." This cover is part of an '80s compilation pieced together by the Spanish pop/electonica site BuffetLibreDJs, titled Rewind . This comp contains some pretty interesting selections, such as [...]
