When you're hunting around the edges for very new music you come across a lot of utter crap. That's the price we pay for setting ourselves up as your filtering service. Please don't think that we come across bands this awesome every time we look, we don't, it takes an eye-wateringly long time to wade through the myriad of bullshit pretenders before we stumble upon diamonds cut this way. And this is truly one of those diamond finds. You're going to love them. Your friends are going to love them. NME is going to slap them all over their radar [...]

Leeds-based indie rockers Club Smith have already been featured and gotten support from the likes o Lamacq and the BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and the Reading & Leeds Festival, so we figured after listening to many of their songs that we'd give them a second or two to wow us. And, well, yup. Here we are then. The four-piece have the sort of propulsive guitars and drums that echo through the night skies and send shivers toward listeners, and a song like "Causing Doubt"--not really a single and not quite a rarity or B-side--is evidence of their [...]

Yorkshire indie rock quartet Club Smith recently released a video for debut single 'No Friend Of Mine'. The video is shot in first-person view, and prominently features the versatility of the nifty Go Pro HD camera. 'No Friend Of Mine' was directed by acclaimed music photographer Danny North and cohort Tim Blackwell (aka Grizzly Bros.). Frontman Lee Clark trained for three months to get in shape to play the protagonist (and antagonist) in the video, set at the York Boxing Club. The track itself is a gritty and angst-fueled, and pairs well with the fairly violent visuals. 'No [...]

Club Smith's video for "No Friend Of Mine" is now live. We brought news of the to-be-released double a side single back in January . continue reading >>

Leeds based indie rock outfit Club Smith rocked the Waterfront in Norwich last night with a short but sweet set of new and exciting music. Recently gaining the expertise of the new Manchester based record label Front Wall Records and currently supporting The Pigeon Detectives on their UK tour, the gig was a great opportunity to see one of the most exciting new bands making music in the North. Beginning the evenings proceedings was Norwich's own indie pop advocates The Kabeedies, who provided the audience an unsurprisingly excitable and enjoyable set; a great [...]

Another favourite of ours at One For The People. We see Sam and the lads as the flyer's of the flag for the North of England at the minute and long may that continue. With these two tracks as a guideline I don't see why not. The band will release this as a debut single and it will come in double a side format. It will be available on 7" vinyl and digital download featuring the tracks 'No Friend of Mine' and 'Young Defeatists', which you can hear below, the single be available as [...]

So its almost that time of the year again. Just as predictable as hearing Band Aid on the radio is an influx of Christmas songs / covers. We wont bore you with tracks from Coldplay, The Killers or even HURTS.... We will however give you some alternative Christmas numbers, which you can pick your favourite from whilst counting down the hours before you finish work. Listen below.... The Futureheads - Christmas Was Better In The 80's [...]
After two EP's and a blazing performance opening the BBC Introducing Stage at Leeds Festival (which is home turf for the band - no pressure there), Club Smith are making a very convincing case that they're the real deal. A four piece indie rock band, Club Smith master a raw emotionality in their lyrics that is matched by dark and progressive guitar riffs and progressive percussion. There are elements of Wild Beasts , Franz Ferdinand , The Sunshine Underground and The Cure in their tracks, with [...]

This year we have featured Club Smith on numerous occasions ( "Lament" , "The Green Room" ,) we as a collective here at 1FTP feel they are heading for great things. Now we bring you a brief but brilliant incite into how the band tics. Straight off the back of the release of "The Process EP". Club Smith are Vijay on drums, Lee on bass, Neil on keys & samples, Sam on Vocals & guitar. Sam from the band recently took some time out to answer a few questions. here they are: (One For The [...]

Club Smith featured on 1FTP back at the start of April with their track/anthem "Lament" (click here to hear that). The band are back with a new LP out 14th June 2010, going by the name "The Process EP". It will be available to buy from the bands official site and all major download sites. The lads from Leeds are being hotly tipped for success and us here are hoping it proves correct. It's fact time now, the band filmed the video for lead track "The Green Room" at the Yorkshire Museum in York [...]

When we last left our heroes, the UK based Club Smith , they had just discovered modern (and, to some extent, classic) post punk with their The Loss EP. The band summoned the likes of Bloc Party, Editors, and U2. It's as if the these guys were teenagers - that is, in terms of musical taste. Now, with the band's new EP, The Process , the band has matured into college students whose friends turned them onto '80s new wave and synth pop. The EP's opener, 'The Green Room,' conjures up the sexy writhing [...]

I helped unpack a container of shoes from China at work this week, and ever since, I've felt like absolute crap. I think the Chinese have found a way to destroy us- but wait, why would they want to destroy somethign they already own 90% of? Anyway, I'm coming out of my hole to post this brief mixtape, then going back to bed, where I hope to sleep off this mutant strain of the ebola virus by Monday. Tracklisting: Athlete - [...]

The last 12 months have gone by in a blur. They (although I don't know who this mysterious they actually are!) say that the older you get time passes much more quickly and it's true that the past 12 months have disappeared exceptionally quickly. It doesn't seem like 12 months since I sat down to compile the festive top 10 for 2008 and now it's here again. The only top 10 that counts (well in my house anyway) . Twelve months ago the Devil's wish for 2009 was for the IFPI to spend more time and [...]
