Dopo i Coldplay , Tony Bennett , Giorgia (nell'epilogo), Biagio Antonacci [...]

In Tim Story's 2002 film Barbershop , nobody really gets a haircut. Maybe some extras. But, the real focus of the film is the drama within the store. The same thing could be said for Astronautalis ' new clip for "Measure the Globe", one of the more unique cuts off of his latest CoS Top Star-earning LP, This Is Our Science - which hits store today. In the Cluster 1 exclusive, the multi-instrumentalist, along with Ceschi (on guitar), lets loose on the chair, where rather than shedding off locks, he cuts away pieces of [...]
We're a little under a month away from the release of Erasure 's first new record in nearly half a decade, Tomorrow's World . In anticipation of the event, the synthpop pioneers' label, Mute, has put together a concert montage video for the album's lead single "When I Start To (Break It All Down)" , and Cluster 1 has the exclusive premiere. In a mere three-and-a-half minutes, the clip does an impressive job expressing the passion and joy this duo has for their music and live shows. From the [...]
It used to be the only way you could get to hang out with your favorite rock stars is by either having some Almost Famous -esque journey or by being Cynthia Plaster Caster . Thankfully, those days are gone, and CoS and Cluster 1 have found a less fictional and far cleaner way of bringing you face-to-face with your favorite musicians. In the latest installment of Cluster 1 HANGOUT, CoS; own Nick Freed and Michael Roffman hang out with Teri Gender Bender and Jonathan Hiscke of Le Butcherettes at Lollapalooza. The ensuing adventure is too [...]
The word "pioneer" is tossed around much too freely these days, but the world surely lost one when Conrad Schnitzler passed away on August 4. A true trailblazer in electronic music, Schnitzler was in on the ground floor of the krautrock scene's electronic side, and kept on innovating down through the decades. As a founding member of Tangerine Dream , the Dusseldorf-born synthesizer sultan was not only a participant in krautrock's first bloom, but also part of the big bang of what would become known as the Berlin school of electronic music. The restless Schnitzler only hung [...]
Photo by Peter Dean Rickards Rubblebucket is like the platypus of Brooklyn's many up-and-coming young talents: a fusion of eclectic parts that somehow create a breathtaking whole. Produced by Eric Broucek (LCD Soundsystem, !!!, Holy Ghost) at DFA Studios, the eight-piece outfit's newest LP, Omega La La , mixes indie pop, afrobeat, jazz, and synths, resulting in an undeniable mid-summer party starter. This off-beat mentality is resoundingly represented in their new video for "L'homme" (literally translated as "The Man"). According to a press release, the video was originally conceived [...]
Premieres: Caged Animals – "Girls on Medication" - In this video, magical gummy bears give the vocalist rainbow laser eyes. And what does he use them for? Why, wreaking havoc, of course. Music Videos: Weekend – "End Times" - Grainy, distorted, and way too close….Weekend's brand of melodic shoegaze music now has a look. Ravishers – "Underachievers" - A day in the life of guitarist Jonathan Barker, a guy who actually writes out sheet music, and who actively takes pole-dancing lessons. [...]
Illustration by champoyhate If German progressive rock bands of the early 70s were members of the Weasley family from Harry Potter, Can would be Ginny Weasley, Cluster would be Bill, Kraftwerk would be Percy, and Neu! would probably be the one who studies dragons ... but undoubtedly, Faust would be the twins. The sly pranksters of the Krautrock set (who hate the name 'Krautrock'), Faust have always been known for musical larks, marketing scams, and instrument destruction across a career that's spanned 40 years and seriously nurtured the fame of billionaires and redheads in [...]

2011: Blind Spots
Among the 62 albums I acquired in 2011 , many were old albums I'm only now catching up on. Some stuck with me better than others. Here are my (unranked) favorite new-to-me albums of the year. Harmonia: Musik von Harmonia and Cluster: Zuckerzeit 2011 was kind of a Clustery year for me. I acquired Zuckerzeit as well as an earlier Kluster album (terrible), two solo albums from Hans Joachim Roedelius (both not bad), and Harmonia's debut (Harmonia is Cluster + Neu's Michael Rother). Of them all, Musik von [...]

R.I.P. Conrad Schnitzler

Someone Else Talking: The Mallard's Dylan Tidyman-Jones
Someone Else Talking finds us harassing a musician long enough that they cough up the fascinating gems that are their current inspirations. Be it music or food or film or folly, we want to know what's getting these people up in the morning. And because we want to know, you get to read about it. Dylan [...]

Music Review: Brian Eno and Rick Holland: Drums Between The Bells
Eno and his Coat of Many Colors
My Listening Hours: April
A little bit late, but here's a quick rundown of every new-to-me album I picked up in April, in the order I acquired them. Low: Drums and Guns Continuing the rehabilitation of my opinion of Low's output of the last ten years, I've come to the realization that, in fact, the band has never made a bad album. My bad for ever assuming that they had. Unfortunately when Drums and Guns originally came out the only songs I heard from it were "Pretty People," "Breaker," and "Hatchet"; I didn't particularly like the [...]

FAUST: IN A CHAOTIC STATE OF MIND

Watch: Dark Dark Dark – "Wild Go" (Cluster 1 Premiere)
The sound that the Minneapolis band Dark Dark Dark crafts is layered with Americana, Eastern European folk, and minimalist tendencies. The title track off of their sophomore LP, Wild Go , is a paragon of that style. An incessant piano, a slight accordion, a sparingly played drum kit, and some echoey background vocals are just about all that Nona Marie Invie's stirring voice has to ride over, and it's more than enough. The video, directed by Santiago Mostyn, reflects the sparseness of the track with fog swirling amongst South African mountains, some ghostly ballerinas, and [...]
