Andrew Sisk finds melody like most people assemble rooms. Does this drum machine loop fit here or should we move it to that corner? What about these synths? Do these harmonies work as an accent? Thanks largely to Sisk's comforting voice and uncanny ability to find the perfect sentence, he and Miranda combine a collection of items that contrast the untrained ear to fill a space with warmth and beauty. Sisk has offered up records in endless fashions; the ukulele driven pop of Share and the guitar-driven hooks he crafts under his birth name, but for me [...]
Herohill delivers a tribute album of 'Hall and Oates' songs covered by Canadian artists.

This year we wanted to do something special for the readers. Instead of asking for remixes, new songs or interviews full of badly phrased questions we thought to ourselves, "Selves, what's one thing we love?" Obviously, something involving the Steelers or Bayern Munich wasn't really an option, but our unashamed love of Hall & Oates was one we thought we could leverage. End result, we asked bands to record Hall & Oates covers, hoping anyone would say yes. In the end, we did ok... we got about 11 songs in time for today's launch, but we also have [...]

Just a quick disclaimer here; for those new to herohill we only cover Canadian content so my favorites list - note: not best-of, as that kind of debate is a bit pointless - is kind of like the cast of SCTV or peameal bacon. If it had a sweater, it would be warm and woolly and if it had a favorite sport, it would be curling (or lacrosse?). One quick point of interest; I opted to omit a few bands that offered up killer EPs AND LPs to give a bit more variety in the lists, but overall it's [...]

I've been unabashedly reveling in every morning where we evade the chill for one more day, where I can ride my bike to work in a skirt and short sleeve shirt, where I can sit on the porch after dinner and not feel that mercury drop and the gooseflesh form. But hey - all that stopped early this week, with a final burst of indian summer and the subsequent autumn arrival. Time for scarves and cider and music that makes me feel thoughtful, wistful, warm. Once the inspiration hit, this mix was almost harder than the summer [...]

Oh lord. I woke up Sunday morning to a nice 50 degree breeze rolling across my face. I tasted red and gold leaves. I heard my neighbors making breakfast in the house next door. It smelled like pancakes. Mom was probably wearing a comfy robe. I heard opened windows shutting to fend off that chilly morning air. Fall is officially here as of last week. We just did our obligatory "Hey! It's Autumn!" post where we detailed our favorite albums for this time of year. Coco et Co recently [...]
Montreal duo Coco et Co are making their debut record St. Denis available for free download. The album is a collection of eight tracks of thoughtful indie pop that should strike a chord with fans...especially given the low, low price. Listen to the track "State of Radio" now and download the entire album here. Coco et Co play the Holy Oak Cafe in Toronto on October 15th. Coco et Co's Myspace

It's been pretty enjoyable to watch Andrew Sisk evolve as a song writer. The first time I remember seeing Sisk perform, he was holding his trusty uke at HPX backed by long time friends playing under the moniker Share, but it very much seemed like the songs and the sound were his singular vision. Over time, Share became a full fledged band affair and Slumping In Your Murals was probably the end point of their sound evolution. The songs were fleshed out; the arrangements meticulous, but to be honest, I missed some [...]
