Blood and Pete Doherty seem to go together like, well, heroin and Pete Doherty. Last year, he allegedly squirted a syringe full of his blood at a Germany MTV film crew. Not even six months later he was covered in it after a brawl with a paparazzo. And now, the Babyshambles frontman has decided to turn his sanguinary fetish into art. On sale today at London's hip Bankrobber gallery is a collection of paintings and sketches created by Doherty and adorned with his own blood. According to the [...]

The joke about Peter Parker, throughout the comic book and the movie franchise, is just how uncool he is. He's the nerd in all of us, the reason many readers identified with this character (and truthfully why Tobey Maguire so embodies the role.) Spider-Man 3 comes dangerously close to trampling this necessary mythology with the Saturday Night Fever and 'man in black' routine , but thankfully, the soundtrack this time around finally embraces Parker's geekdom (musically) with original songs from The Flaming Lips , Yeah Yeah [...]

If one dates Zooey Deschanel and is set to star in an upcoming movie alongside Natalie Portman, they are likely to be the object of envy for most hipsters nationwide. Also add to the mix that they were the star of the cult-favorite movie Rushmore and composer of The O.C. theme song and you have a lifestyle that appears to be quite desirable. While Jason Schwartzman is best known for his acting career, girlfriends, and prominent family (Francis Ford Coppola is his uncle, Nicolas Cage is his cousin, and Talia Shire is his mother), Schwartzman has been involved in music [...]
Copyright infringement, like identity theft, affects millions of people every year! So I guess that is why the powers that be at Spiderman 3 Inc . decided to make the promo discs for the new soundtrack harder to get into than Donna Martin's knickers. Seriously. Before I can even open this promo slab, I have to agree to some crazy restricted release jibber jabber about express written consent like I'm thinking about illegally broadcasting MLB games. The CD has my name and company printed on it, and is watermarked so I can't sell it. Couple that with [...]
Here's the weekly roundup of the cool shit. A couple of very nice new songs from Mark Ronson's album are floating around including: God Put A Smile On Your Face - Mark Ronson w/ The Daptone Horns Via Spine Magazine.com Oh My God - Mark Ronson w/ Lily Allen Via Sound Gymnastics Back To You - Coconut Records [...]

I don't know Jason Schwartzman . I only really "know" him as a string of quirky character roles in his various movies. So maybe it's logical as I spin his throughly likeable new musical effort under the name Coconut Records that my always-visual mind pictures a parade of those guys performing these songs. Whether it's a fleeting image of King Louis XVI (Marie Antoinette) sensitively strumming the guitar and pining away on "Summer Day," or Max Fischer (Rushmore) jerkily dancing along to the irresistible title track, this is an [...]

When I first heard about Coconut Records, Jason Schwartzman's new band, I'll admit I was a little apprehensive about listening to their album. As a general rule, I believe actors should stay actors, and musicians should stay musicians; the mixing of the two rarely turns out well. Then I did a little research on Schwartzman, and learned that this is far from his first musical endeavor; he used to be the drummer for Phantom Planet, and has composed the scores for several films. While Coconut Records debut album, Nighttiming, certainly [...]

Last I herd Jason Schwartzman had taken a little break from music to concentrate more of his time on movies. To be fair that was years ago, but I`ve always had a massive amount of respect for Jason...why?... 1-Used to play Drums for Phantom Planet (u know the guys who sing the O.C. theme) 2-is a good actor as well and 3- I herd he played drums for Sloan once in L.A. when Andrew was sick...I wish I woulda been at that concert...anyway`s he [...]
I never had much luck traveling. I've been home from Austin since Monday and yet my suitcase has yet to arrive. After many hours on the phone with Delta (the devil), the guaranteed times have been anything but guaranteed. It's almost laughable now, if it was not for my antibiotics that are in there that I so desperately need. My newly brunette (but always logical) roommate tells me you cannot become addicted to antibiotics, but I beg to differ. I have always defied science. And I need them. I don't want tonsillitis to come back for the ninth time. Sigh. [...]

So you all know who the actor Jason Schwartzman is. Well, he started a new musical project called Coconut Records . The debut album Nighttiming comes out this summer, but yesterday saw its digital release. The music is laid back indie pop. While it isn't exactly my thing, I have to admit that it is a lot better than the garbage that most actors release. Take a listen to the single "West Coast" and see what you think. If you like it, you can get the whole album pretty cheap over at [...]
