Call it selling out or call it making a living, but I mentioned a while ago that California lo-fi buddies Best Coast and Wavves recorded a song to be part of Target's holiday album . Well, now the compilation of holiday music, which also features indie darlings Coconut Records (Jason Schwartzman, anyone?) and Jenny O. , is up for free download ! Listen to these peppy tracks while studying for finals, working long hours at the office, or decorating the tree. [...]

Jason Schwartzman aka Coconut Records supplied a song to Target's Holiday Mix The Christmas Gig which also features the Best Coast / Wavves collaboration, Crystal Antlers and Bishop Allen among others. This is a pleasant Christmas tune that I am sure will pop up every year around this time. Mp3: Coconut Records - It's Christmas

Picture by young@art ... Hey Cranes! It's Neil, ya know, long-lost AdventurerNeil, checkin' in with ya to say 'howdy!', and share some muzak (mmm...sweet, sweet muzak). As you may know, I enjoy my music like the cookie monster enjoys his dough... You guys are nazis, man! So yeah, sorry for being all sorts of wicked-absent and never posting... sad story: right as the last mixtapes week was kickin' off, my computer went kaput. Since then I've been busy, sure, but [...]
Coconut Records – Davy. Original Release Date: 20 January 2009 (Young Baby Records). Download “Microphone” (mp3). When his plane landed in the afternoon, it touched down during a rare heavy rainstorm. Three hours and four Jack and Cokes later and the rain has not stopped. Jeff finally decides to unpack. The clothes: the cotton shirts, pressed slacks, boxers and socks. The hardware: the portable printer, travel size DVD player, and laptop. There is no need to even open the accessory bag of miniature toiletries since it was replenished before leaving the hotel room. He just pulls it out of the [...]
If ever you needed evidence that Jason Schwartzman is the raddest man alive, here it is. Even though he stole his whole shtick from Wes Anderson he is consistently and effortlessly awesome. The five minutes after I watched this video is the only period of my life that I've genuinely wanted an iPad.

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Television On top of his acclaimed acting career, ' Bored to Death ' star Jason Schwartzman is also a respected musician, first from his days with Phantom Planet and now with his own Coconut Records project, which provided the show's noir-ish theme song. As both the star and a musician, it would seem natural that Schwartzman would have a lot of input into the program's just-released [...]

Katy Perry publicizes a little-known fact about California: it's actually made of cotton candy! This post comes to you courtesy of Katy Perry. Ever since watching this interview where she explains why she decided to contribute to the already-existing musical treasure trove of pro-California songs, I've had this mixtape in mind. Moreover, since I was in New York (specifically, Park Slope!) this weekend the timing felt right. As a disclaimer I should note that this mixtape is incredibly biased, in no way comprehensive, and involves a [...]

I have a good 10 minutes of spare time today so this is going to be a quick one. Last week, my good friend Antoine Karl sent me his Summer Sweater newsletter and the topic of conversation was the awesome Coconut Records song Any Fun . I listened to this a lot last year but for some reason 2009 feels like it was 10 years ago now so I had completely forgotten about it. It's a rainy morning, football won't be on for another million hours and to top things off it's Monday. Fortunately, this is [...]
Vulture is reporting that the actor with Jackson Browne good-looks will be working on a new Coconut Records album. This is what Shwartzman told Vulture: Hopefully it’ll be good. But it might be kind of slow, musically. Maybe it’ll be really slow. Slower than usual....

Great news for fellow fans of Jason Schwartzman’s first two solo albums as Coconut Records , Nighttiming and Davy : Vulture reports that not only is the Scott Pilgrim/Rushmore star shaving off that unfortunate mustache (“It has eight more days. Exactly.”), but he’s also writing songs for his next record with Los Angeles producer/multi-instrumentalist Woody Jackson . The musical direction of LP3, however, is clearly still in the works: Hopefully it’ll be good. But it might be kind of slow, musically. Maybe [...]

Sorry guys - meant for this to be your top ten yesterday, but I had a crazy morning and had to run out before finishing it. The Remix Artist Collective, or RAC as they are known in the blogosphere, has dozens of quality releases dating back to 2008. Some of them are what you might call sample-based original works, and others are remixes or just 're-imagines' (which I suspect is something along the lines of a lazy man's mashup, though that's not to criticize RAC's work). In their own words: We provide re-interpretations/remixes of [...]

Jason Schwartzman is the ultimate one man band with two sides, one being poppy silly fun and the other being sad introspective melancholy. Somehow the dichotomy works on both of his full length albums which prove to be more than worth checking out for their offbeat indie style.

first of all : I KNOW, I KNOW. ... now that that's out of the way. here is mix 1 of 2 mixes from the illustrious julie peel . go on, check out her website. or listen to one of my favorites of hers : living in a movie . now, her mix : 1- Bob Dylan " Positively 4th Street " [...]

This isn't an EBTG post, sorry to disappoint, though it was that song that inspired me to make up this week's list. As an alumni of the Long Distance Relationships club, I have compiled many-a-song to my list of tunes to soothe the weary heart. A particular song that was on heavy play was Everything But the Girl's 'Missing' (also because, prior to the LDR club, I was a recovering pining-for-a-lost-love addict). I haven't added a song since, as it's been that long since I've needed one for my longing heart, but with my natural pre-disposition to sappiness [...]
![[Listen] – #MusicMonday – 20 Songs Of The Week – May 17th](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2555810_lg.jpg)
If you're unaware of what Music Monday is, it's a Twitter recommendation system where users of Twitter share their favourite music, artists, genres, etc in order to not only find new music themselves but help others find new music too. Using the hashtag (#) followed by "MusicMonday" you can easily find new music posted by the thousands of people making recommendations each week. Every #MusicMonday I upload a playlist of 20 songs that I've been listening to (new and old) over the [...]

Yes, the band that penned the ubiquitous theme song ‘California’ for one of the greatest TV shows ever, ‘The OC’. He soon found success in acting and then eventually created his band, Coconut Records, which is really his own solo side project. Schwarztman [...]

They say time flies when you're having fun, I guess that why it wasn't till last week that I realized it's been a whole year since Steph started the Le Miel du Mois series, wow. We're getting a lot of new visitors lately so if you're new to EMPT I recommend you to to the LMDM page and start right back at the very first installment of this series and work your way up to this months. Every tape has stands on it's own and till this day I've never been able to pick a favorite and this month is [...]

This Saturday we find ourselves with a pretty wide array of music. Today’s tracks include Nantes-based trio Smooth , Swedish pop duo Club 8 , Jason Schwartzman ’s solo project Coconut Records , Peruvian electronic group Novalima , Baltimore’s Beach House , the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the first song off the Basque band Delorean ’s Subiza , which was released last month, an unexpected Paris / Atlanta connection, and a MGMT cover ( and I liked it ). Smooth - [...]
