Can Jason Schwartzman do no wrong? Acting. Drumming. Songwriting. Being awesome. His pop rock project, Coconut Records , has a new album due out on January 20th called Davy . He's released the first single "Microphone" and you may have guessed it...I like it. I was singing along almost instantly and it almost brought me as much joy as when I first heard "West Coast" off of his first album. You be the judge: mp3: Coconut Records - Microphone mp3: Coconut Records - West Coast [...]

I'm a sucker for Jason Schwartzman. I've been wanting to have his babies (probably via C-section, though I'd prefer home birth in a big tub of water) ever since Rushmore . Sure, he's not the prettiest dude, but his family is film royalty, he's been in some great movies (I even liked him in Bewitched — don't judge) and he was in Phantom Planet when the band was good. Anyway, he released a new Coconut Records track, Microphone . There was some [...]
I was chillin with some dope elves building some toys and they had some pretty good jams, i was surely surprised, maybe you will be too, (my guess is they on some wack shit) so here are some early Dance jams to get you in the christmas spirit, straight from the north pole for the [...]
Relatively new Portugal. The Man album just came out recently so i decided to give it a listen, i only found one track i enjoyed so far but maybe you'd like more of them. I also included some other chill jams ive been trippin out to. Its worth a listen to, but let me know if [...]

Our favorite actor/musician (and former Phantom Planet/one-time Kings of Convenience member) Jason Schwartzman 's new Coconut Records album Davy is coming out January 13, and he has decided to pre-release one of the songs, "Microphone". You can download it for free on Amie Street - for every download they donate 1 dollar to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation . Coconut Records' debut album, Nighttiming , received high accolades in the indie community, and rightfully so. It's a nice mix of swirling [...]

Coconut Records posted a new song, "Microphone," on their MySpace Page . It sounds great - Jason Schwartzman takes it up to a new level.

Jason Schwartzman has been one of my favorite actors for quite some time. I just love him. And I just got word that his musical project Coconut Records is coming out with new album Davy on January 13th. I know that actors making music is usually a HORRIBLE idea (Scarlet Johanson, Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Crowe, Jamie Foxx to some extent, etc.), but this is truly an exception to the rule (as is Zooey Deschanel). You can download the excellent Sea Wolf-y sounding "Microphone" for free from HERE . ABSOLUTELY check [...]

Jason Schwartzman (" oh, are they? ") returns to quirky pop-heaven territory with the sophomore effort from his band Coconut Records . The unassuming debut Nighttiming was one of my favorites last year ; I'm a sucker for that chimey, eclectic, slightly-awkward sound and openhearted joy. As I wrote before, normally we can all agree that actors making music spells disaster , but in this case it absolutely spells y-a-y. Davy is out January 13th on [...]

While we're all sitting down to eat, relax, and eventually fall asleep, I thought maybe you'd enjoy some tunes to help you nod off in style. Dentyne's new commercial called "Make Face Time" isn't much to write home about except for the fact that it features a little Coconut Records ditty called "Summer Day." For those of us who aren't rabid " Rushmore " fans, Coconut Records is the name of actor Jason Schwartzman 's solo project. "Summer Day" is from CR's 2007 debut, Nighttiming . ( O-R They? ) MP3: Coconut Records - "Summer Day"

Everything's a bit austere these days... Sure, I'm enjoying the Presedential election but after a consecutive month of double page spreads about every last detail you never would have wanted to know about Obama & McCain's private lives there is a huge urge to just stop being so damn sedate. Enter Coconut Records, the solo project of Jason Schwartzman . This man is insanely talented; the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola and cousin of Nicolas Cage, not only did he pen Phantom Planet's only hit (their only song, [...]

This weekend, I had the rare opportunity to spend a long weekend away from the studio and out in the brisk western Virginia woodlands. It was a magical couple of days filled with romantic fireside evenings, long hikes along kaleidoscopic trails, and vistas replete with wildlife, waterfalls, blue skies and cool air. This mixtape is inspired by those fresh memories - Indian Summer among the changing leaves, reading a good book on the porch of a cabin, and just getting away from it all. Track listing: 01. Fleet Foxes - Ragged Wood [...]

So...Jason Schwartzman. I wasn't a huge fan of Phantom Planet, ubiquitous O.C. theme and all, so I was surprised to find a Coconut Records song catching my ear. It's not super artsy, it's a bit saccharine, but it is very lush. And Schwartzman's singing voice sits somewhere between Rivers Cuomo and Doug Martsch. I have been debating posting this band since it came out over a year ago. I think it's way too poppy and overly cheesy, yet I can't stop listening to this song. I think it has something to do with the video which is all Cheryl Dunn footage of Mark Gonzales skating in a Museum back in 1998. Basically Jason Schwartzman (who started the band) used an amazing video to bring his song up a couple notches. Umm, yeah. Whatever. I know I lose points for posting such tripe, but just watch the video okay? [...]
Updated the muxtape... midyear favorites : The year is past halfway so I figured it was time to sift through what I've been listening to and pull out some favorites. Some of this stuff wasn't new this year but it was new to me because I'm behind the times… Run Dan Run — Your Name Escapes Me The Go Find — Dictionary The Submarines — Brightest Hour Lilofee — Lock and Key [...]
I'm still 8 years old inside. It all hit me when I slammed the window door against my fingers. I thought I was over the whole kissing your 'bo bo' (or 'ow ow' depending on where you grew up) in order to miraculously heal it, but apparently I'm not, hell I went all out, I found tears rolling down my face. I mean you have to be fairly stupid to close a window door on your fingers, or retarded, like Tom. (Tom is my retarded next door neighbor, and by retarded I mean he applies sunscreen lotion on his cat.) [...]
