1. Lily Allen - Don't Get Me Wrong (Pretenders cover) - This classic song is always worthy of a listen, especially when hipped up by the sassy Ms. Allen here. Instant dance party and/or nostalgia overload. You decide. [from Radio One Est. 1967 | buy ] 2. Veda - Still Standing - It occurred to me today that I've never put any Veda (now called Vedera) in the blog (other than a mention here ). This is so 2005, back when the assignments [...]

1. Lewis & Clarke - Black Doves - It's a dark and brooding journey along the Oregon Trail, apparently. This track marches steadily on surrounded by fleetly-picked guitars and knee-tapping percussion, without the slightest fear of dysentery. [from Blasts of Holy Birth | buy ] 2. Magnet - Lonely No More - Despite, or perhaps because of, insane amounts of floor tom, this ends up light and fun, maybe even cute. I love Magnet. [from The Simple Life | buy ] [...]
I Am the Unknown - The Aliens Essentially the former members of the Beta Band whose name isn't Steve Mason, The Aliens have a similar schizoid manic/melancholy air. The music is frequently at odds with the lyrics, and a persistent undertow of disappointment tugs at the oft-soaring Byrdsian harmonies. And yes, there's that pastiche aesthetic--scraps of Phil Spector, Madchester, funk (-lite), Ray Manzarek, ELO-brand prog, Merseybeat and lotsa references to sunny California pop spanning, say, 1965 -1978. If, unlike the best Beta Band material, it doesn't add [...]

un post pour les kiffeurs ki trip tro sur le fluo , et ceux qui aiment bien les belles filles rousses qui jouent du yukulele, aussi. i've always wondered how it was to be a redhead. why are they here? do they really smell different? is the skin really the softest ever? should they be kept into reserves like the indians? each time these come up in my mind, i ask my darling Red Foxx about it, and he surprisingly doesn't get too angry but rather eludes by sending me some hot traxxx. [...]

Sometimes we get a song here that just stops us in our tracks. "Tell Me" is just one of those songs. Gentle with two soft voices, this track slowly steps along with haunting harmonies and lilting guitar. Listen to this song with a good pair of headphones and no distractions and you will be generously rewarded. Listen closely for the subtle cello slowly creeping its way through the shadows and don't miss the attention to detail on the countermelody of the guitar between verses. This is a truly a finely crafted song. [...]

I get a ton of promo emails these days and don't always go through them very thoroughly. So, putting a post up with a few of these promo's will at least get some exposure for these bands. Let me know if you like any of them. Soular: mp3 Love Crash Heal Soular Website Soular Myspace The Race: [...]

The Washington Post's crush on right-wing bloggers by Eric Boehlert Under normal circumstances, the recent lunch at at a Filipino cafe in Washington, D.C., between Washington Post media writer Howard Kurtz and right-wing blogger Michelle Malkin would have been an awkward affair. Kurtz was there to profile Malkin for the paper's Style section, yet Malkin in her writings had made it clear she despises the mainstream media and holds the Post in contempt. ("Washington Post Sinks To A New Low," read a Malkin blog entry on July 22, 2005.) She has written that the paper's managing editor displays [...]
