Lots of great releases this week as a lot of these are some of my favorites of the year so far. A few that I can definitely recommend starts with The Rosebud's third album Night of The Furies , which is simply a great pop record from top to bottom. In fact, I was actually interviewed today on Blog Fresh Radio and this was the album I talked about for a couple of minutes. I'll let you know when that [...]

As a start of my catching-up, I'm gonna give you the latest discoveries from brilliant online-magazine Tonspion . Here's what they've found during the last weeks: Two Gallants - La Cruces Jail Neo-Country-Rock CocoRosie - Rainbowarriors Indie-Folk-Pop... The Cinematics - Break Indie-Pop; an older song, but still very good! [...]

It's another great week for new music, with new releases from Bright Eyes ( see previous post ,) Blonde Redhead , Laura Veirs , The Rosebuds and the exciting new group from Nick Cave and his Bad Seed bretheren called Grinderman . Playlist: New Releases 04.10.07 ------------------------------ ---------------- Album: Grinderman - Grinderman "Foul-mouthed, noisy, hairy, and damn well old enough to [...]

Note: This is the third album from sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady (aka CocoRosie). Sound: A bizarre and utterly original mixed bag where verses can be rap/sung in either a playful, delicate, achy or militant tone, then progress into haunting and operatic crooning by the break or chorus...
Serious though. The limitless excess that is available via internet world has forever altered my ability to be stimulated by conventional means... and i can't imagine it any other way. Here's some recent havoc that's been wrought. CocoRosie-Rainbow Warriors Kookiest dames in the game are back. More beautif harp melodia, more awesome lo fi sound effects, more "Daddy never let us out of the attic" and noticeably less "actually, we are just trust funded out our ass and we made an album while we were tripping balls one day" [...]

Release Date 04.10.07 On The Adventures Of Ghosthorse And Stillborn , the third spell cast by the Brooklyn-based CocoRosie, Sierra and Bianca Casady sprinkle a trail of mercurial sounds that whistle atop the frightening trees of an untamed forest, which we willingly venture into. The promising disease of noise that screams like mad throughout this album is an electronic hybrid of folk and folklore, of mystics and gypsies, of witches and warlocks, injected into your veins by a pair of sinister sisters. From the ceremonial harmonies on "Rainbowarriors," to the [...]
My first encounter with Cocorosie was seeing them open for Bright Eyes two(?) years ago. I found them so unpalatable that I really hadn't listened to them until last week. I'm still no diehard fan, but there are a handful of songs on their new record that are absolutely wonderful. Link ...
Rating:7/10 Modern Music Review Third full effort again sounds like nothing before, as with an opera where death represents a secret heaven, the whole record feels like a black diamond in the snow. A record is being fed by many different genres and musically it doesn't border a unique style, A great example of mixing all of them successfully in the manner. Dreamy opera vocals into dum-dum beats,
rainbowarriors www.cocorosieland.com better blog writers than i have tried to classify CocoRosie's music into a genre and have failed, so i'm not even going to try to explain this because it's pretty much pointless. let's just say it's "experimental" which could basically mean a whole bunch of things. and let's just say i have been listening to their new album " The adventures of ghosthorse and stillborn " on repeat since i aquired it. good god, you just need to own this.

Cocorosie has a warm spot in my heart. Their sound is so unique in my opinion, what they do is so creative in my opinion, and their backstory makes for some freak folk cinderella story. That said there has been a lot of hype surrounding the girls since "La Maison de Mon Rêve" and while "Noah's Ark" had some success with their current fanbase I think a lot of people who were new to their sound had trouble getting past the quirky sound of the album save for the title track. Anyways i'm gonna stop [...]

2007 really seems to be hitting its stride as far as new releases go. While I'm still not as on top of things as I'd ideally like be, there have been a number of new releases that I've taken to, as well as the continual process of exploring older works. Of course, old favorites are still very much in force, but that's why they're favorites. Incidentally, I've got a feature on Mahogany in today's Washington Square News , and I may end up putting up a full transcription of the interview around Thursday, when [...]
