The Valentine's Day Mixtape is a tradition as old as ATG itself. The first edition was only the 10th post ever here at ATG HQ, and it has taken many shapes in the six years since. The only constant has been a seemingly endless supply of bubbly indie-pop and sugary sweet folk, mixed with a heavy dose of pure sexual energy. This year's V-Day Mix has all the bases covered: let Bon Iver and Alexander do the crooning, Thao Nguyen & Coeur de Pirate can handle the innocent pop, and The Weeknd, Drake and Frank Ocean can handle the sex. Encabezando la lista tenemos a Jack White, Beck, Bon Iver, Beirut, Zola Jesus, pasando por The Roots, Explosions In [...]

Todd V Wolfson I feel that I should say up front that any reservations I have about Kathleen Edwards and her work are entirely my own issues. Since her 2002 debut Failer , I've enjoyed her honest, roots-rock fare but always felt like I expected more from her creatively even though across her first three albums, she'd never shown any signs that she had ambitions beyond being a good singer-songwriter. That said, the fact that she spent her downtime following 20082s Asking For Flowers [...]

I hope that in making this I jinx the mild 40 degree weather and we can finally get some snow. But for the time being, it looks like this is the winter global warming made. I like my seasons to be distinct, thank you very much. I've come to expect winter mixes to be sparse, pretty, and down tempo. As I made my own, I realized it was more in tune with my restless temperament and the current weather than that gorgeous silence a fresh snowfall brings. Hope you enjoy it, whatever the weather may be. [...]

Sorry, sorry, sorry, I'm a bit late with the yearlist and it looks that most of my other yearlist colleagues were way better and faster. But still I try to give it a shot. There were as always disappointments; albums you waited for but that disappointed when they came out. But also pleasant surprises. Actually, there were a lot of them. It was harder to make a list of only ten albums, than a list of, say, 25 good ones. So no Austine, Brigitte, Brigitte Boisjoli, Catherine Major, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Chloe Lacasse, Claire Denamur, Elsa Kopf, Ingrid St-Pierre, L. [...]

Three free livetracks by Coeur de Pirate! Part of the' 12 days of Christmas app' from iTunes - they're giving away free songs by various artists, only downloadable for 24 hours. Or at least, that's the idea. Not sure how & why, but the three CdP-songs (+ 2 videos) were up December 8 and still downloadable. If you live in Canada, that is. But you know we have ways of getting to our CdP-stuff. So here are the three songs, recorded last October in Paris. Enjoy. Coeur de Pirate - Cap Diamant (live) [...]

Welcome to FWBA's best-of 2011. This has been such a meaningful year in music to me that it's tough to represent in one post. I'm going to be honest, this took me quite a long time. I wanted to do this year justice because personally, it was a total dream: living in San Diego working with some of my favorite artists, going to SXSW and Lollapalooza, seeing Dave Bazan in stranger's living rooms, Feist play a hometown show, saw tune-yards electrified show at Soda Bar clocking in as one of my favorite performances, watching Zach Rogue and my boyfriend playing [...]
Well, it's that time of the year again where everybody and they mamas drop a list of their favorite albums that came out this past year. I was actually pretty close to not putting together a... Read the rest on Speakerboxxx.com
If I see Couer de Pirate's name in anything, of course I'm going to listen to it. Tergiverse is the first single off Peter Peter's debut album. It's full of sweet ballads like this. But this duet is just the ultimate delicacy to the ears. I almost like it more than the everso popular (on this blog anyway) duet with Jay from Bedouin, Brutal Hearts . Justin Broadbent In an age where many young bands seek to get on the expressway to your skull immediately after their first rehearsal - assuming they rehearse instead of just uploading jams to Soundcloud - you have to appreciate a band like The Wooden Sky . They've taken the time to hone their songcraft and live show since forming as Friday Morning's Regret in 2003, and with their 2009 sophomore full-length If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone and its attendant endless touring regimen, have positioned themselves as [...]

by teepoo Rather than post you some stupidly generic list of albums you are supposed to expect, I think my top 10 is going to be based on the fact I actually listened to these releases the most this year. Come on , if an album is good, it must be one of your top plays right? These are based on stats according to iTunes and Last.fm plays as well as the fact I physically own them. I don't believe in people's top lists if they [...]
