What's Your Rupture has a ton of awesome new stuff coming out this week (and in the near future). Of course there's the vinyl version of Love Is All's Covers EP , PLUS the new Last Choice 123 . And there's the Cold Cave - Etsel and Ruby Insound Exclusive 123 . Cold Cave - "Love Comes Close" (MP3 via RSTB ) But don't overlook the Silver Shampoo - Jethro [...]
Cold Cave smooth their noisy past into spectacularly perfect syth nostalgia on this 12" for What's Your Rupture? Cold Cave – Etsel and Ruby 12" Hitting strangely John Hughes levels of 80's nostalgia, Cold Cave wrap this 12" around your heart and squeeze. The stand out here is the lead off "Love Comes Close" which cracks the spine on your teenaged diary in a way that only M83 has been able to in recent years. [...]

Ahh, what a week! Aside from the week-o-shows (most of which I was unable to go to), I've been getting some great new tunes from random bands I've been talking with. By the way, the Animal Collective show last night was their best performance I've seen by far. I guess the third time's a charm. If they are within a 200 mile radius of your barrio, do yourself a huge favor and see them. Enjoy this week's mixtape, and your weekend! The Yolks - I Do What I Do Liechtenstein - Roses [...]
Every spring, for many years now, a strange and eclectic horde has made its annual pilgrimage from wherever around the globe its happenstance members may reside, to a somewhat painful little patch of Brooklyn, NY, called Williamsburg. They descend upon this spot to partake in a festival immersed in audio, but strangely enough, not quite [...]
Before paving the way forward with a few upcoming releases, Cold Cave takes some time to wrap up the past on Cremations a disc of live, demo and unreleased tracks. Documenting their noise oriented beginnings, which explain this release as well as some earlier ones showing up on NYC's Hospital Productions, and moving on through their icy synth swaddled current state; the disc gives a nice primer to what Cold Cave have up their sleeve in the future (i.e. a stellar 12" coming out on WYR?). Caked in nihilism and sexually predisposed lyrics but also showcasing the band's [...]
It's a little weird seeing a middle-aged, kind of bloated, dude play twee pop anthems to a room of chunky glasses and anoraks, especially when this man, Comet Gain singer/guitarist/leader Dave Christian, banters about crashing out on people's floors after the show and his own amateurish musicianship. But Comet Gain are proud of their deficiencies, and complain about them in a way that is more like bragging. It's a playful double standard that works for the band. It reminds us of what they, and the rest of their genre, are all about: fun. It's common for indie pop groups [...]

Good news this week if you live in D.C., no need to travel outside the district for shows! That means no driving which means more drinking! Because what's better than going to work hung-over Thursday morning with Crystal Stilts still ringing in your ears? Several things, actually. Several things. Wednesday: Death Cab For Cutie & Ra Ra Riot, Neko Case, Crystal Stilts So, a funny thing happened, almost all the big shows are on Wednesday! Lucky you, you get to pick! Let's go big to small. For $40 you can see [...]

Philly synth-wave revivalists Cold Cave threw down a few cool singles this last year, I've cherry-picked a few favorites from them. There's a strong early 80s new-wave/industrial vibe here (minus the bad taste in clothes), like a brighter, happier version of The Normal, or Digital Leather covering pop songs. Cold Cave - The Trees Grew Emotions and Died Cold Cave - Always Someone Cold Cave - Heaven's Gate

My apartment, windows drawn wide so I don't get stoned (alriiiight) and then die (oh, boooo) from the fumes of a painting project, is nearly no degrees right now. So, the name of this band, which my eyes have scanned over numerous times bandied about the internet and nestled into my "recent downloads," called out to me know in it's documentary description of my domicile. Cold Cave - "The Trees Grew Emotions and Then Died" A synth band called Cold Cave should sound a lot [...]

MP3: Cold Cave - "The Trees Grew Emotions and Died" The Trees Grew Emotions and Died 123, Dais Records , 2008. How about some bleak, gothy Dark Wave for your lovely sunny afternoon?
Daito Manabe - Electric Stimulus to Face [Test 3] (2008) I've spent the last few weeks caring what you think. It feels a little bit like an electric pulse to the prefrontal cortex. Your red wire to my dorsolateral broadmann area 46 twitches your relevance, the blue one to area 10 keeps you in the back of my mind all day long, and the yellow one on area 11... that just makes me swear. There is beauty when everything is reaction, as long as there is beauty behind [...]

Happy Boxing Day! For my American readers Boxing Day is a Canadian holiday and the only day when it is legal to hold a boxing match in Canada. With that formality out of the way, please check out three more bands: The Whore Moans For those who like : Mudhoney, The Melvins Sludgy hard rock from [...]
The Singles Collection is our weekly column where we highlight some great pieces of 7″ wax — whether new or old — that we think you should know about. This week's Singles Collection is of a bit higher fidelity than last week's batch of burners , and a tad more on the electronic/dance tip to boot, but don't fear, we haven't switched gears to delve into mind-numbing 123 remixes; these selections all remain firmly rooted in our medium of choice. We begin this week with [...]

Cold Cave emerge from their noisy roots to merge the distorted head of noise with the sweat stained heart of an 80's Saturday night. Cold Cave - The Trees Grew Emotions and Died 12" The band's first 7" on Hospital showed promise but was so soaked in noise that it was hard to hear their ability to craft melody through the din. They rectify the problem on the following 12" released on Dais, [...]

At Sunday night's Bowery show with Love Is All, Cold Cave was all reticence, dim lighting, winter-jackets--"Strictly outerwear," said a friend. It was cold outside, and inside the odd cluster of fri... Continue reading "On Cold Cave's "The Trees Grew Emotions And Died"" >

Between Lindsey Buckingham solo shots , Vampire Weekend and Death Cab covers, and constantly finding excuses to spin Tusk and Rumours and etc., Fleetwood Mac is one of those "classic" bands that never seem to grow old. Unless you see them in person, because [SPOILER ALERT] they don't look like that pic anymore. Next year you'll be able to pair their timeless material with their timebound bodies: the Mac have promised new tunes, but their upcoming greatest hits tour, called Unleashed , is all about the old. For [...]
