I mentioned Weepop Records the other day when I wrote about The Just Joans , and it turns out that they have many artists on their label that are right up my alley, all of whom have a free mp3 or two available on the site for free . Drew from Across The Kitchen Table also informs me that they send lollies with every music purchase! Well, he said sweets actually, but this Aussie girl just can't pull that off without feeling silly, I'm afraid. Here are a few tracks that grabbed [...]

Tweet WeePOP! records have announced some great news today. They will release a new EP with the lovely The Just Joans , "Your pain is a joke next to mines", on 27 September. It will be a 7 track EP, as usual on a handstamped 33 cd with handmade cover. I said "as usual", but from now on, the 33 discs will not be the only thing WeePop! will release. They will start releasing full lenght albums on "giant-sized" (standard 5″) cds, [...]

There is a growing underground force of pop labels releasing music on nontraditional formats. Of these formats, two prevalent ones, at least in the lo-fi pop and twee pop arenas, are cassette and the 3-inch single. Being such a strong fan of the genres that release via these formats, one would think I would have the ability to play them when they arrive in my mailbox. Unfortunately, I do not at this time. (But boy do I love receiving them!) WeePOP! Records releases via the latter and they've built [...]
Not pictured are these other kind performers supporting the effort: Broken River Prophet , Kristin Hersh and Bill Janovitz . We were surprised at how much fun an afternoon indie rock show where everyone brought their kids was. We'd like to see more of that happen, if only because it means we could finally blend kid time and rock club time. The short review is that Colin Clary was endearing, Drew O'Doherty 's playing was mesmerizing and voice as killer as always, and Travels were even better than we had hoped. [...]
New video from My First Days On Junk (with Colin Clary of the Smittens):

Artist: Colin Clary EP: Every little thing counts Label: WeePOP! Release Date: Out Now Website: http://www.myspace.com/colincl ary Words By: Richard Wink Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the twee-est one of all? The world is twee is one of great regression, where grown men wear Thomas the Tank Engine knitted jumpers and grown women cuddle teddy bears. It's Pee Wee Herman and Sesame Street. It's K records and Jonathan Richman worshippers. [...]

Pete and Pete = Springtime. Right? The Springtime Is Killing Us! Well, not really – to be honest, I'm on spring break right now and the entirety of the week here was dreadful and wet, but today just happens to be the nicest day we've seen so far around here! Now, what's a spring break without a new mix celebrating the (late) arrival of Spring?! Why that's no spring break at all! So, since it's just beginning to turn into spring outside and I haven't made a mix since, well, a while, I made a new [...]

Keeping a bit in the theme of the Wayside Waifs CD , but not really going on so much about it in this post, I thought I would make a few themed posts that could tie in to the project and still bring you some cool Christmas music to boot! There are a couple animal related Christmas songs on my CD..."The Cat Who Controls Christmas," "A Horse Is Not Just for Christmas," and "I Will Hold You Until You Sleep." Of course, Larry Garrett's song "Old Dogs" that finishes off the disc is about dogs, but [...]

Another new thing here??? I often feel that I start columns, - keep them up for a few weeks, and then realize that I haven't got the capacity to keep them updated, - so I just leave them. I hope I will manage to keep this column updated... This is made mainly because my time is limited and the days are too few to tell you about all the good things that my ears experience during one single week. HERE are some good things that has passed my ears and eyes the last few weeks: [...]

Iceland Airwaves er svona eins of fyrsti snjórinn, læðist að manni og skellur á öllum að óvörum þótt allir viti hann sé á leiðinni. Og ég stend hérna á sumardekkjunum og veit ekkert hvað ég ætla að sjá, eða hvernig maður ætti að plögga sínu eigin bandi sem best. Á maður ekki að sitja bara og þamba kaffi á einhverjum pöbbnum og vonast maður rekist á virtan blaðamann frá útlöndum? Híma fyrir utan Media Centerið í Skífunni? Á maður að gefa alla diskana sem eftir eru? Seinustu ár hafa farið 60 diskar í einhverja blaðamenn sem hvort [...]

I just posted the full (almost) list of artists and songs from the upcoming Eardrums Autumn Compilation in a journal on Last.fm. The new 4 volume (!) album will be called "A Good Crop", and the release will most probably be here on the site on September 23 (for free). I'm considering putting it out in two batches, - two volumes one week and two volumes the week after. I haven't decided yet, but I fear that such a huge number of songs may be too much to listen to in one go, and that some smaller bands [...]
Άνοιξη! Γιούπι! 1. Zion i -& Radiohead - 15 Steps feat. Photo by Skippy13 Colin Clary's 2005 album Sweater Weather or Not, These Are the Songs I Got has one of my favorite album titles - and one of my favorite holiday songs. Chanukah may be over, but it's not too late to enjoy this indie-pop gem. Today's Christmas-post is a little bit of everything, - no theme or similarity between the songs, other than that I like them all and that I like to think that they all are in the spirit of Eardrums and Christmas. It's Britney's birthday today... and it's Nelly Furtado's too, and the bass-guy from Muse is also celebrating. I think we should too. Bring on the cake! Here's today's party music... Math and physics club - A Marshmallow World (last year's [...]

One of the albums that's been pretty much hogging my cd player lately is Her Life of Crime , an album released by Colin Clary and the Magogs in 2005. In particular I go back to two songs, and so, wanting to share the songs with someone, I got Colin's permission to do so, and asked him how they came about. About "Moped rally" Colin says: "Moped Rally, was inspired by my friend Rob Hoehn's enthusiasm about getting and riding mopeds. One day he got a bunch of us together and [...]

Colin Clary writes a lot of songs (wrote about another of his songs here ). In fact he's started and ended more bands than anyone else I'm familiar with. And he's got rosy cheeks and apparently very soft hands so that's something. He's from Vermont (this is the second of three post about bands from Vermont in the past two weeks). "Blowin Off The Sun" is a new song from an upcoming release on Asuaurus Records . It's breezy, light and sunny. Blowin Off The Sun [...]
