The sixth episode of the Hang Games mixtape saga reps a fresh crop of dynamite Australian artists remixing fellow dynamite Australian artists. Also, loving the downloadable compilation arrangement (great hussle by Hand Games CEO Luen Jacobs) which saves us all a buttload of trouble trying to hunt for these badboys: Tracklist 1. Hiatus Kaiyote - Ocelot (Willow Beats Remix) 2. DZ Deathrays - Dollar Chills (Jonti Remix) 3. Kirin J Callinan - W II W (Turkish Prison Remix) 4. Dune - Oh Innocence (Client Liaison Remix) 5. Ok, so here it is. my favourite 10 tracks of 2012. I think I'll let the music do the talking instead of me crapping on about how each track made my year. All I will say though is the criteria I had for this list It had to be a track I kept on coming [...]

2012 has been a massive year for our boys PURPLE SNEAKERS DJs , In a 12 month period they performed on the Groovin The Moo tour, Pyramid Festival, Big Day Out, and play dates across the US and South Africa with acts like Diplo, Flume, Odd Future, 360, Star Slinger, Miike Snow and buttloads of others. They also stepped up their production work beyond just remixes to releasing their own debut single ‘Last One Standing (feat. Amy Pes)’ on New York specialist dance label Plant Music. We asked them to hit us with their [...]

People say that long distance relationships just don’t work, well in most cases those people would be right however, those people haven’t met COLLARBONES . Their Facebook description says they’re genre is “long-distance teen pop”, and it is mostly right. In Sydney resides Marcus Whale who sends his track ideas through to Adelaide resident Travis Cook , who then sends it back to Sydney, so on and so forth. COLLARBONES can be picked out of a crowd with incredible ease as both members tend [...]
ok. So, here it is. My top albums of 2012. It's been a nutty year, full of some really incredible albums. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it was impossible to listen to everything, but, I did try. Continuing on with the whole Australian music blog theme this blog has taken on over the [...]

This has been a seriously brilliant year for music and as a music site it's basically a responsibility of ours to make a list of the best. So on one sunny morning all the Purple Sneakers minds got together and here are the Top 50 albums we chose from 2012. 50. Diiv Oshin 49. Alpine A Is For Alpine 48. Breakbot By Your Side 47. The Cast Of Cheers [...]
These guys are definitely going to feature in quite a few end of year lists. Collarbones's sophomore release, Die Young hit all the right spots when it comes to beat driven r'n'b/dance music. On record they sound amazing, but live, they're incredible. Two unassuming dudes cutting loose on stage. It's a sight to see. I caught them [...]

With the vast expanse of the National Gallery of Victoria’s Great Hall transformed into a live music venue, the gems of Melbourne’s indie scene came out to play with the Gallery’s priceless collection. Featured as part of the Labels Series for Melbourne Music Week, the night showcased the best of the labels’ respective talent. With the neo-90s penchant of Two Bright Lakes , to the innovative electronica from Cutters Records , this was one hell of a variety night. Beat-darlings Teengirl Fantasy opened with [...]

Brothers Hand Mirror. Eclectic is what you can label the Melbourne duo from the outset. BHM is HTML Flowers and Oscar Key Sung (of Oscar + Martin) fame. You may not recognise HTML Flowers at first, but remember he’s that guy who featured on Collarbones with that asymmetrical haircut. Before your eyes move on, here’s a little disclaimer. Technically, this is Australian hip-hop (loosely). But hey, it hasn’t been picked up by the J’s just yet, so let’s save your cringing ‘till later. If you were at the TBL-Cutters showcase at [...]

Exit Earth who I had a look at in October 2012 is back with a new track - Collarbone . Exit Earth With a slightly more refined sound this is an interesting development for the band and it will be interesting to hear their next release. Join the indie bands blog on Facebook for [...]

Picture this: one venue, a bunch of bands and a handful of DJs riding out for about ten hours one Saturday night. There’s a focus on genre and the curators are those running exciting record labels and events around Australia. Sounds pretty decent, hey? Well that’s because it is. If you were at the Factory Theatre on Saturday night, you were lucky enough to experience OutsideIn – a boutique music festival ran by the good people of Yes Please and Astral People . With a monstrous lineup, [...]
Ok, so slowly we're getting back on track. This here is the October Mixtape, chockablock full of my fave tunes of October. Some absolute stunners in here - the Lower Spectrum EP was one I kept on coming back to, as was Tame Impala's record, Collarbones's second full length, as well as the Love Migrate disc. [...]

Melbourne nu-disco artist KNIGHTLIFE came to prominence with his festival hit ‘Crusader’. A few more tracks, some EPs and a boat load of touring ensued, and now with a debut LP right on the horizon we snatched the guy up for a little Q&A. Are you excited about releasing your debut album next year? How long have you been working on it for? Yeah I am very excited. I’ve been saying ‘the next thing I’ll do is an album’ for a while [...]
