Apparently there’s been a multi-city festival going on called Re:Mix Lab . The idea is to bring together art, music, fashion, technology, culture and design. All things we love here at Magnetic. It’s something Hyundai has been doing around the release of their new three-door coupe, the Veloster. Bummer that we’re just now hearing about these events, awesome that we caught on before the show was over. Tonight is the last stop on the tour and will include DJ sets by Yeasayer , French act College and DJ Neil Armstrong . We’re looking forward to peeping the [...]

Once November hits, every one enters an end of year stupor. The short work week before Thanksgiving suddenly becomes the longest three days of the year as you allow your mind to shut down and focus on some good time off. This attitude will likely continue until January 1, 2012, so at the very least, you should make sure you have some good music to soundtrack it. Here's our favorite songs from the month of November. Listen and download below. Hear the full stream: November Mixtape // Quit Mumbling DOWNLOAD INDIVIDUAL [...]

This fall we’re serializing 12 chapters of Sons of Dionysus , a lusty novel of myth, mirth, and music. CHAPTER 8 Every year before the spring tour, the SODs held a pigroast on top of West Mountain. Legend had it that the pigroaster was a man with no teeth, who drove up from the Appalachian Mountains with a dead pig in his trailer. He was said to have long scraggly hair and to always wear the same costume: black jeans, motorcycle boots, and [...]

There are, as you can imagine, many down sides to moving back in with your parents after graduating college: how invasive it can be on your ability to get a decent rapport going with a girl and having to live with the constant blood-boiler of being told to turn your music down, to name but a few. On the plus side, it does allow you to form a band with some old high-school pals and set off down the road to fame and fortune. Admittedly this shining vindication doesn't happen too often, but it's exactly what happened to [...]

We are certainly not on time with this post, but a good song is a good song and some songs just need to be posted. Drive's soundtrack is worth checking out, with College's "A Real Hero" highlighting an impressive set list. Take a listen below and buy the soundtrack here . Listen on SoundCloud

CHAPTER 7 Something had happened to Arthur over the winter tour that had made him into a womanizer. Prior to that, our having bunkbeds was not an issue. He would pine over this or that girl from his classes, and occasionally fool around with the girls from the Owl, but then, maybe even the day after he returned from tour, the up-the-ladder parade began. My presence for the first one was definitely unintentional. I was supposed to have been gone for the weekend visiting relatives. The relatives asked if I could visit another time [...]

I know I'm late on this, but just got around to seeing Drive , the Ryan Gosling film that seems to simultaneously be an homage to early-702s Steve McQueen getaway flicks and the Grand Theft Auto series, with its hat tipped directly at 80s-themed Vice City . Its highly-stylized, videogame-noir finds the perfect medium between nostalgia and total awareness that makes for one of the more unique major releases of 2011. Everything from its title sequence (and font) to the sound design and soundtrack, is deliberate, and the violent and exciting are always balanced [...]

This fall we’re serializing 12 chapters of Sons of Dionysus , Jim Knable’s novel of myth, mirth, music, and the magical excess of youth (If you missed them, catch up on Chapters 1-5 . Fear not, they're short.) We’re also posting audio versions of each chapter, read by professional actors. Read, listen, and enjoy! Chapter 6 I am a good student. Having a teacher for a father, I know how important it is to show respect for teachers. [...]

Electric Youth, best known for their song "A Real Hero" from the drive soundtrack (check it here), recently dropped their first digital EP "Right Back to You". Electric Youth has been putting out music that will remind some of tunes out of the 80s but also delivers a unique sound that will leave most listeners wanting more. There latest EP features songs "Right Back to You" and "Fade Away" and there is no doubt fans of their previous stuff will dig this. Check them out below and be on the look out for more from Electric Youth... [...]

The best movie I've seen this is year, hands down, is Drive. Not only did this capture the city of Los Angeles at night beautifully, but it did so with a terrific story and a truly inspired soundtrack as well. From that soundtrack we have the team up of College with a duo from Toronto, Canada named Electric Youth . College - A Real Hero (ft Electric Youth) College bio: College, from his real name David Grellier, is a French electronic music composer born in [...]

If you've seen the Drive movie you've probably looked for the soundtrack and you've figured out that College did the song you loved off of it, soo happy to see this music finally getting some recognition beyond Daft Punk . I went over to College's soundcloud and found this great mix he recently did, download it and enjoy. DOWNLOAD HERE TRACKLIST 01 – Stephen Falken – See The Unseen 02 – Ken Scott – Dancer [...]

We’re also posting audio versions of each chapter, read by professional actors and media types. Read, listen, and enjoy! CHAPTER 5 [...]

Know what I love? Audience participation. One of our Facebook likers posted this track on our page in response to the Grimes tune I posted a few days ago. I guess Drive was a really good movie with a really good soundtrack. Good work by College and Electric Youth on this tune. Curious to see how this ties into the film. I'll see it one of these days. So it seems everyone's all hot for neon-noir, Michael Mann-indebted sounds these days. And why shouldn't they be? I'm glad folks like the Chromatics are getting their well-deserved cinema time. Drive was exquisitely flawed — with a strange fetish for demolished heads — but it succeeded at least for bringing this fabulous track to light. As much as the hook, I'm drawn to it for the tenderly delivered lyrical notion that to be 'a real human being' is itself a thing worth rallying around, as much [...]

The movie Drive is one of the best I've seen this year. It's beautifully composed, features a range of standout performances, and has some of the most powerful scenes of aggression I've ever seen captured on screen. The moments that really stand out are the quiet ones. When there is no dialogue, and just the characters expressions, feelings and the amazing soundtrack left to do it's work. Each

This week has been pretty epic for me in terms of parties and events here in NYC. Two nights ago I ended up at 31 denim’s SoHo store - at 15 Mercer - for what, I believe, was their opening, or launch event. I got a text from the friend who invited me to: “meet there”, so I had no idea what it was about until we arrived, other than it being a party. As soon as we turned the corner onto Mercer from Grand, we could see a flock of people in front of the place, and immediately assumed [...]
