The pop remix world is a dodgy one to enter, especially as you're just crafting a name for yourself as an expert house producer. George FitzGerald is more than likely aware of this fact and still has the cojones to go forth and remix Australias pop darling Kimbra. Although the vocal is my least favourite part of the remix, it's certain to gain the young producer some commercial scale hype, especially in our country, which he's currently touring. (No Adelaide stop unfortunately :[) This is by far the best pop remix I've heard in a long [...]

These days you need to be wearing at least 3 pairs of headphones at any given time to keep up with all of the top-notch music piling out of Liverpool, and All We Are are the latest band to prove this probably-watertight theory. They craft devastating, emotionally-involved folk that belies their age; they haven't even been together for a year. Far more impressively for such a young band, they've already got an incredibly well-defined identity, and one that doesn't feel worn out or clichéd, but organic and absolutely genuine. And although tracks like "Red Sky" have the sort [...]

Sometimes I wonder why I still live in the states, as there's so much fresh stuff coming out of London right now. Case and point, colo are a London based duo who informed us about their forthcoming debut EP, Midday Sun . "picture of you" is the lead track, filled with lush sounds and languid vocals. The video is cinematic, dark and mysterious, perfectly complimenting the track. After it was over, I felt myself longing for more, which is always a good sign. Midday Sun is out March 12 on [...]

Not to be constrained by self-imposed institutional guidelines, February's Baker's Dozen features just ten tracks as opposed to the usual thirteen. These ten are those tracks I've either been listening to a lot over the past few weeks or those that I've fallen instantly in love with. Either way, I hope you enjoy them. Kavinsky - Road Game Last year Kavinsky reminded us with his soundtrack for Drive that he is still the master of French Touch. 'Road Game' is the first track to see light from his forthcoming album and it [...]

Jonah Bromwich's favorite color is Cardinal. Enigma. Anomaly. Sky-high potential. Game-changer. Rap messiah. We've heard these labels applied to up-and-coming rappers many times over the past decade. A short list of them goes as follows: Wale, Lupe Fiasco, Lil B, Tyler the Creator, B.O.B., and of course, Jay Electronica, who has personally used all of the above terms to describe himself. Rap has been changing, and that change has very little to do with any of the guys above. Boutique rap, Emo Rap, the [...]

Blu, the LA rapper, who stole our ear with his album, Below The Heavens , three years ago (produced by the magnificent Exile) has a new album (FINALLY) available today entitled Her Favorite Colo(u)r . The album, originally released as a mixtape, was remastered and released on Warner Bros (where he's currently signed). The entire album is about heartbreak and love, so for fans of Drake, 808 & Heartbreak you can go and gobble gobble this up. Tracklist 1. Love 2. Amnesia 3. Since 4. Morning 5. [...]

The sounds of South Londoner Jack Dixon have been repetitively resonating through our playlists for the past months. The sheer amount of quality production work, combined with Jack's polished melodies, have us all buzzing quite a bit around the rebel facilities. Featured in Take Records compilation 001, Jack's 'Wrong Number' single gave us an introduction to the earthy percussion that we've come to love. The free compilation was also backed by tracks from fellow up&comers Colo , Mr. Lager and James Fox . Now calling Belgian label Silverback Recordings home to his [...]

"Fishing In The Colo Wilderness" isn't so much an album as it is a collection of samples, snippets and tracks from the Fishing older material archives; the two man band themselves even bracketing a disclaimer of '(Hard Drive Clear Out)' as if to distance themselves from such accountabilities as this one. The Sydney duo have been riding off the success of their two song LP "OOOO" and accompanying downloadable EP since its release at the start of February, their achievements culminating in a whole host of blog attention as we move in to the depths of [...]

Yesterday, Stealing Sheep reached out with a remix of their track, "Noah's Days." Given the sound of the artist's last song to be featured as Song of the Day [ here ], I found myself a little skeptical about whether it could be any good. To date, 95% of remixes feature some [...]

Colo When I see you we are going to bump heads. Colo - Twenty Six ( mp3 )
Great free EP to ring in the new year from Take Records. You get four songs from the likes Jack Dixon, Colo, Mr. Lager, and James Fox. Mellow future garage to spread the positive vibes. Wiz Khalifa is tatted up like a motherfucker, and he doesn't let you forget it either. OOP, I almost forgot: My review of a recent U-God / Wiz Khalifa show ran today on Tiny Mix Tapes. This was an interesting show, to say the least. I still think hip-hop has a lot of growing to do where concerts are concerned. Check out the review, lemme know what you think!
