W hen did Chicago become the summer music festival capital of the world? First Pitchfork , then Warped Tour , and finally Lollapalooza . That is a lot of music to my ears. Coupled with all the individual street festivals, the Taste of Chicago, and you might as well spend you entire summer vacation here. So here is another round of MP3 previews from Lollapalooza 2007. I'll see you tomorrow at Warped Tour. In the meantime, check out all our previous Lollapalooza MP3 previews. Part one [...]

So, to sort-of continue with yesterdays post I will talk about another group that has a similar name but totally different sound.... Colour Revolt hails from the state that every kindergartener loves to spell: Mississippi. They have a very driving intense, rock sound but that does not quite do it justice. There is almost a post-blues vibe with sparse piano thrown in and the occasional harmonica courtesy of lead-singer Jesse Copenbarger. They supported Brand New for several [...]

Colour Revolt came out of nowhere last year (Mississippi actually) and knocked alot of people's socks off. "Mattresses Underwater" is one of those songs that grabs onto you and doesn't let go. It's amazing on the first listen and even better on the second, probably because you're not trying to figure out what bands they sound like and just enjoying the song for what it is. "Mattresses Underwater" starts out with a pretty sounding piano and a simple guitar riff. Before the song is over it has evolved many times, it's different stages all building upon each other. [...]

Not to turn this site into a collage of world causes, or anything, but the Guardian informs me that today is World Water Day . I remember in Cubs we were told to think about it, and how we take it for granted, followed by the mandatory slide-show presentation. I think we were told that baths are better than showers, if you like to have a long wash. But worse, if you prefer a short wash? I think that's how it went. Well, today's the day we think about these things, with the topic being "Coping with water [...]

SXSW 2007 list. Yes I know it's over. but I just had time downloading the songs to make lists. This one is the nicest so it goes first. It's a late nite list with consistent sound, very sexy, and bunch of post-rock in each section. I would post more info, were it for not having a chance to carefully look at each artists webpage. But at least the list nice. Enjoy. "I. City of Love " 01. Dislike - Alone (Ufa, RUSSIA) 02. Slot - [...]

I'm still sick, but since SXSW have announced their lineup, with free mp3s as usual, here's a look at some of those playing this year. Una has a list of irish performers. Duke Special, the man above isn't playing, but he will be playing Berlin soon, and hopefully I'll regain my health in time to see him. Have a nice weekend. Duke Special - Last Night I Nearly Died Asobi Seksu - Thursday Au Revoir Simone - Fallen Snow Colour Revolt - Mattresses Underwater [...]
Mooi liedje: Mattresses Underwater
1. Blinker the Star - Pretty Pictures - As Idolator recently pointed out, this 1999 album ended up by the wayside and it was a damned shame. This is timeless pop in the vein of Jellyfish. Lofty praise, well deserved. [from August Everywhere | buy ] 2. The Acorn - Blankets - This band's entire catalog is filled with fantastic songs such as this. It begins with a Sufjan-ese intro before morphing into a powerful Anathallo-ish anthem of goodness. [from Blankets | buy ] [...]
These artists might not have had a album that fully engulfed me BUT DAMN , I could not get these songs out of my head or off the playlists this year. Thoughts Of Rena The VOOM BLOOMS (20 repeats) Saint John COLD WAR KIDS (18 repeats) Chinese Translation. M. WARD (18 repeats) Pittsfield SUFJAN STEVENS (15 repeats) Boys from School HOT CHIP (13 repeats) Young Folks PETER BJORN & JOHN (13 repeats) You And I Are A [...]

When I first heard 'Mattresses Underwater' by Colour Revolt over at Bows + Arrows , I thought it was good, but just too close to the Arcade Fire for me. However, with further listening, and with a little help from mah friends, I've changed my mind - even if something isn't wildly original it's still worth listening to, especially when that something is Colour Revolt (but not She Wants Revenge). So here they are! Shh, listen. Mattresses Underwater A New Family Our Homes and Graves [...]

my friend and i shared in a music listening session. he introduced me to this band a few weeks ago as he was lucky enough to catch their performance live. this song mattresses underwater was one of those songs that i immediately enjoyed. theres a special weak spot i have for the way words are meaningfully spoken. from oxford mississippi, colour revolvt are a sonic five piece dispersing frantic energy and silent to suddenly urgent melancholy. together they created their debut EP [...]

The band that I'm digging this half of this week is Oxford, Mississippi's Colour Revolt. Note the "extra" u in colour...Their name is derived from Flatland, Edwin Abbotts' 19th century social commentary on life in two dimensions. OK, OK, you say. What does the band actually sound like? It sounds alternatingly dream-pop and alternatingly tortured. It's a combination that has been used before to great effect by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead. Their self-titled EP is brimming with potential, and has recently has been picked up for national distribution. [...]
I was torn this week between way too many good songs. Don't you hate it when that happens. Anyway, as a remedy, I'm essentially going to stick with the assignments being more obscure because the whole point is to possibly turn you on to something you wouldn't find on your own. In the next few days, I'll be posting some of the brand new stuff by Ben Kweller, John Mayer, Beck, Scissor Sisters, and

Colour Revolt , Stereogum 's latest " Band to Watch " will be playing downstairs at The Cavern here in Dallas, as I spin a bunch of White Denim songs upstairs, occasionally mixing in a song from The Knife . I'm so predictable these days. The fun starts at 10. Colour Revolt Mattresses Underwater mp3
With a recent re-release (on Interscope's indie arm, Tiny Evil), Oxford, Mississippi's Colour Revolt should expect a bit of a hullabaloo (is that what they say in the South?) over their promising, self-titled debut EP. The six-song effort catches the...

Jackson, MS Colour Revolt previously put out their EP on Esperanza Plantation but are now getting it re-released October 3 through Tiny Evil . In support of this, they are touring quite extensively through the end of November, playing with acts like Anathallo and Page France . "Mattresses Underwater" Colour Revolt [...]
Download: Colour Revolt -- " Mattresses Underwater " Download: Colour Revolt -- "Mattresses Underwater" (Live at the Fillmore) Download: Colour Revolt -- "A New Family" (Maverick Remix) Athens can be a fickle town for the travelling band. People here have a lot of local acts to choose from, and they're generally quite loyal to the Athenian bands they latch onto, but people here also like to socialize, and do a little raising of the wrist, and they aren't gonna let a little thing [...]

Colour Revolt-Mattress Under Water This drifting, sometimes tinkling, sometimes flowing, sometimes exploding song bends and shapes into a living moving picture. A piece of wonderous brushing harmonies and emotions all wrapped up into one song. With the occassional breaking, gasping chorus with a shock of clashing, thundered guitars and screams, and the line of the song mesmerizing to listen to, at the very least. And, it does not hurt at all that ex-Fletcher Colour Revolt 's debut EP will be released on Tiny Evil, home to other Bubble Death favorites such [...]
