As many of you are well aware this last Saturday played host to the First Annual Norman Music Festival , and for a first time festival I think things went extremely well. The lineup was great and the price was right. Really where else are you going to see some seriously kick ass bands for Free? Nowhere! There were 3 stages all within walking distance of each other, but far enough away there wasn't any sound bleed over. Well one of the stages was inside the Sooner Theater so there wasn't any real threat of [...]

I t's countdown time - at least for the coordinators of the 1st Annual Norman Music Festival (which I am now officially referring to as Maverik). This Saturday 26 April! Upwards of 30 bands playing on/at something like 4 or 5 venues. Pedestrian traffic only on the Garner Corridor Arts District. Free beer . No, not really. Food and drink vendors - including 6 dollar vegetarian Frito Chili Pie, drink and a rice crispy treat at the Opolis . [...]
Colourmusic 's Ryan Hendrix recently did an interview with Alibi, an alternative weekly in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in which he revealed the band's plans for their first full-length album. In May, Colourmusic will release its first-ever full-length album on Warner Brothers' subsidiary Great Society Records. The Orange LP fuses songs from the Red and Yellow EPs, with one new song completing the package. Hendrix is confident the two colors will inform and complement each other, and he's happy to finally have an album under the band's [...]

(and poof, I'm a wedding photographer) A friend of mine helped put together this fundraiser happening on Sunday. It has a diverse line-up and takes place in a great open-air location on the Gowanus Canal: The Yard. It's a nice spot with beautiful poplar trees, picnic tables, and a view of the "Gowanus jellyfish" floating by (ie. condoms). They will also be serving local beer, BBQ, and locally grown farm produce. Details below: ::: STARRY-EYED FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES LINE-UP AND LOCATION FOR BROOKLYN EVENT: THE BUDOS BAND, MIHO HATORI AND TIM "LOVE" LEE ADDED [...]
Although We've already dubbed these guys a Salad Days Music band to watch ,they are so good we decided to talk about them again. They have previously released two Ep's. One entitled The red ep and the other entitled The yellow ep . Both of these ep's are worth picking up. A little information about the band, mp3's, and video can be found after the jump...

* Colourmusic-Yes! * Colourmusic-Circles * Colourmusic-You Can Call Me By My Name

S orry about that unannounced vacation for the last week or so. Not that you care, but I have had some health issues that seem to make me pass out the moment I sit down (so it's probably actually the meds, but you get it). The weekend Trifecta at the Opolis kicks off tonight with the Neighborhood, Yacht Club, and The Legend of Junior Sapp. Since we will be podcasting I don't know if I'll make it to that one - at least in a timely manner. [...]
After an excellent showing at SXSW last weekend, our good friends colourmusic left Austin with some interesting news: Tony : So how was Austin? Nick : ya, a mini music video for you can call me by [...]

Colourmusic is a six-piece band out of Stillwater, Oklahoma who just recently came across my inbox and, well, have impressed me enough to type up a little something. Adjectives to describe it: happy, catchy, fun (for God's sake, look at their promo picture). It's sort of the kind of music I would listen to on a happy day, but when I'm not in the mood for something as sickeningly sweet as The Boy Least Likely To or what not. I could see some of this in commercials - really, it's pop [...]

Y ou know, I love it when something good happens to a local artist or group or artists' group. This week the good news goes to Colourmusic who have been announced as the latest signing to Edmond based Hellfire Managment Group . They've already been getting a bit of buzz in internet discussions and mentions from Senor Coyne. Best of luck to the Stillwater's lads of Newton. mp3 shoebox [...]

MS fanatics have been circling their rooms in frenzy, distraught that our latest podcast has been held up for a couple weeks. For that I apologize. I will not, however, apologize for quality! Or sucker punches. Kid should've been paying attention. As anticipated, in all its CD-R length magnificence, is a not-so random sampling of the music that shaped the now departed summer. As always, the best albums are represented, the best tracks of sketchy records are liberated, and this time we've taken more pains to represent the changing music [...]
Merry Swankster approved exports from Oklahoma City (and self proclaimed "boy band") - Colourmusic - recently YouTube'd a lo-fi kaleidoscope-y video for the song "Yes!" and posted on their MySpace page. Such confluence of web 2.0 (including this here blogging), enough to bring a tear to the eye. Have you taken to Colourmusic yet? Thrusting beats, poppy melodies aplenty in between chunks of delicious sonic density. Colourmusic - Yes! The thrusting march of elevating rhythms propels serious intensity on [...]

I'm dead. I saw Of Montreal last night, then went and filled in for someone at the 3-6AM shift at WRFL. As such, no words on this one. It's a great song and I highly suggest it. Colormusic's whole EP, "Colorwithmusic," is fantastic and just another example of how Oklahoma ...

Last week I posted about a band out of Oklahoma City called Colourmusic. I first heard of them through a Denver Post article written by music critic Ricardo Baca, who through a twist of fate I've since befriended and can say without hesitation gotten drunk with. * (I will not provide an anecdote on Old Media relevance due to Top Secret Music Blogging policy dictating that although we should be grateful for discovering new music, the official Company Line of disdain towards established Media can never be compromised. Insert boring, self-righteous comment on the divine [...]
Awash in color Colourmusic is a band figuratively mixing colors of the sonic palette. They also get literal with the whole color analogy. Front of stage concertgoers, bring your Gallagher tarp. "The quintet started its set in all-white outfits, from a painter's suit to white slacks and a white turtleneck. And as the set progressed, friends boarded the stage and painted their suits - and their set, which was crafted blank canvas. By set's end, the stage was awash in color." ( Denver Post ) Colourmusic is [...]
