Brink of the Clouds is the title of a new UK compilation of indie, alternative and lo-fi acts due out on September 20th on Art Is Hard Records. It features nine tracks from bands in the south west, amongst them the excellent Desert Dessert by Colours which we have previously posted on MM. Other bands featured include Dutch Husband , They That Cried Wolf , and True Swamp Neglect amongst others. The unusual thing about the compilation is that it is a t-shirt release...for your £9 you'll get a lovely screenprinted t-shirt, [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Friendly Fires, Phoenix, Cut Copy "The Pass - Colors" What's so good? Great bands beget great bands. Most artists readily point to an array of influences that helped mold their sound. It makes sense, after all, that producers of 'good' music would carry a respectably discerning ear themselves. That said, listing Justice, LCD Soundsystem, and Daft Punk as strong influences heavily raised hopes and expectations for [...]

Tangled Hair From: Kingston, United Kingdom Formed from the ashes of UK math poppers Colour , Tangled Hair tease out the tats with some adult oriented indie pop so precise it's almost geometric. Tangled Hair deliver sophisticated, grown up pop for sophisticated grown up people, intelligent pop with a warm beauty that recalls Swoon era Prefab Sprout. If the world were [...]

Paula Patton says she used to keep her husband a secret from her friends - because he is white. The actress, who played Gabourey Sidibe's teacher in the movie Precious, is married to R'n'B singer Robin Thicke. But Patton - who is half-white herself - says she was too scared to introduce her white boyfriend to her black school friends. "When I was in high school I found myself totally enamoured [with] this guy," the 34-year-old says. "But I didn't want all my high school friends to know that I'd fallen for [...]
Losing your drive is a balls. Especially if it affects your… eh. At least there's viagra for that. Not too sure why. But as of late. I have lost my drive to scribble down my gibberish. Blogaruu has taken a back seat. Missing chapters. Which is a balls. Particularly as more has been going on, since [...]
From the veterans of the old school to the pioneers of the new, here's some new Blu to end off the day. Following suit with his video for "Amnesia", Blu samples an old French film for "Untitled(LovedU)23. Both tracks are off of the mixtape HerFavoriteColo(u)r, which is hands-down one of the best mixtapes to drop [...]
This album is an eight-chapter narrative of despair, love and everything in between, and it's as compelling as old-time religion. From the very first track, "Brother,"—a cautionary tale of deceit—I almost guarantee you'll find yourself humming along.
I'm going to be honest here, i find it totally incredible that The Invisible played in Bournemouth - as far as i'm concerned, the sunny seaside town is more often than not restricted to the occasional visit from Status Quo and Jools Holland at Christmas, as well as all of your obvious Snow Patrols, Kasabians and Kings of Leons which start here as a warm up for their now-routine world tours. Its only recently that new(ish) venues are vastly pumping up the standards. The Bournemouth Opera House is now O2 Academy, which means that it gets booked up to the [...]

Photo credit: Miles Aldridge Lately, in the morning hours, you'll sometimes find me playing the shit out of these songs: Beach House - Used to Be Beat Circus - Boy From Black Mountain Colour - Over the Moon * Owen Pallett - Keep the Dog Quiet But that's not all I do. I've also been obsessed with researching the etymology [...]

This post was written by the lovely Jason and originally posted on his blog, indie shuffle (click here and your ears will thank you). "Virgins making music?! No, this post isn't about Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift. It's not about the Jonas Brothers either, though obviously one of them just lost his V-Card (why else would someone with a purity ring get married?). Rather, this post is the about the five best debut albums released in 2009 by artists who likely set themselves up for further [...]

Virgins making music?! No, this post isn't about Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift. It's not about the Jonas Brothers either, though obviously one of them just lost his V-Card (why else would someone with a purity ring get married?). Rather, this post is the about the five best debut albums released in 2009 by artists who likely set themselves up for further success (with the exception, perhaps, of Colour, who seem to have disbanded). While there can be no doubt that these five artists are exceptionally talented and original in their own rights, one can't deny that, at [...]

Colour were brilliant. Too bad we just discovered them as they unfortunately broke up in June 2009. However, shortly afterwards they put together 'Anthology', a 13 track Colour discography. If you like what you hear, head on over to here to get the album. Colour - Unicorns (Acoustic) Colour - Jewels Like Fairy Lights

It's a little difficult to believe another whole year has passed since I started this blog - in January, CTRR will hit its second birthday. Once again, I didn't make a weekly mix for every week this year, though I tried to make up for as many as I could. In this part of the series, there are mixes with themes of: lullaby/sleep, Scotland, colours, John Peel, work/unemployment, Valentine's Day, underdogs, cover versions, synthpop, Wales, Ireland, dance, spring, paranoia, and science fiction. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my friend, Roland, who has [...]
This video clip comes from Melbourne female artist Nicola Lester . She has just embarked on her first full length album with the title Colours. The video clip comes from the single release with the same title. I find any song that sings so nicely about colours is very ear opening and when its aligned to such a random and adventurous film clip it definitely creates a new perspective to the lyrics and the beautiful piano ballad telling the tale. If you love your regina spektor type of sounds, purchase her album 'Colours' by following the links [...]
Patricio Riesco estuvo [...]

When I got my hands on this anthology, I was expecting it to be something from the now defunct The Colour , out of Southern California. I couldn't have been more wrong, and the results couldn't have been more pleasing. Colour is/was a four-piece math pop band from Kingston, United Kingdom. Delivering a sound filled with detail, harmonies, time signatures [...]

This one slipped under the radar for us. We just found out today that Joss Stone has released a new album (on the date of release). Not sure why it didn't receive enough publicity or promo, but we knew it had to do with the record company. It turns out that there was some industry mud-slinging. Her record label has been obtained my an equity firm and Joss Stone does not like that at all. So the album got delayed and shelved. Then when it came time to release it there was no video and very little promo (mostly word-of-mouth [...]
