"Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood; and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago; and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days." - [...]

Coltrane Motion are a left-field Chicago-based electronic indie rock duo, who have been releasing stuff since 2000. Michael Bond and Andrew Hagood , who are also part of The Most Powerful Telescope In The Universe project, have used a wide aary of vintage keyboards and trusty Danelectro guitars ro record their new full-length Hello Ambition! . With the help of GD Mills (drums) a, Hilly Kinkel (backup vocals), Tim Heyl (organ)and Jay Reynolds (Sax) the album is segue of continuous lo-fi neo-psychedelic songs that channel The Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows [...]

Coltrane Motion is an indie/eletronic music duo out of Chicago who have just recently put out their album Hello Ambition! earlier this year. The album definitely borrows heavily from a sense of noise and garage rock as well as borrowing heavily from those Yo La Tengo-style droning acid rock songs that they do so well. They really hit some high points in the album and have built up some very good songs, but there is definitely a focus on a certain type of song that dominates the tracklist here and it makes for a record that [...]

let know one say i didn't try." coltrane motion - please call it a comeback
Despite having finished touring in support of their latest release, Hello Ambition! , Chicago electro-indie rock duo Coltrane Motion have just released a brand new clip for their tune, "Please Call it a Comeback". The song is builder that begins tempered synth lines that eventually lead up to a busy, electronic-tinged jam-out finish. This Milk Products Media-directed video features a lonely man whose botched suicide attempts leads to a massive celebration. It's positive stuff here, people. Be sure to catch Coltrane Motion at Schubas on Thursday, July 22. Now check out [...]

Does anything go to better than great live music and a boatload of short films? I think not. Well for those of you who think like me, you're in luck as the Backyard Film and Music Festival goes down at the Pullman State Historic Site , located at 11057 S. Cottage Grove, on Saturday, July 24. The festival will mix the best up-and-coming visual talent with Chicago's best up-and-coming audio talent as it will feature 20 short films, 10 bands and two DJs. The band lineup features soon-to-be-huge local indie psych act [...]

Chicago duo Coltrane Motion claims to be inspired by "the last 40 years of pop music," with an impressively varied collection of songs ranging from infectious '60s pop to jittery electronic rock. Coltrane Motion , an indie-rock duo from Chicago, recently released their newest album, Hello Ambition! , which combines electro synth with hazy guitar. Michael Bond, the vocalist, has become a friend of ours through music blogging forums and the like, and recently let us know about Hello Ambition! . I knew he used to run a website, had a record label ( datawaslost ) and was in a band, but I never really thought twice about it until word about the new album. And, well, I'm sorry, Michael. Your music rocks. I also love this description: [...]

David Byrne once had some inspiring words about life during war time. It was something or other about this being no time for parties and disco. Ugh, I'm so confused by musicians. Why do they put anti-war messages over funky basslines and jittery rhythms that make me forget about world events? Save your comments on "Life During Wartime" not being about actual war. I don't care how many books you read dissecting the Talking Heads' lyrics, its ambiguous - making it susceptible to appropriatio...

Please Call It A Comeback mp3 Coltrane Motion, Hello Ambition .... buy it! I Forgot There Was A War On mp3 Coltrane Motion bill themselves as "lots of hazy shoegazer guitar over noisy dance rhythms and crammed into pop songs" and I guess that's close to being it. But when I first walked into the room and saw these two whacked out guys doing this thing they do, I could only describe it as oh-my-god-what-the-fuck-is-tha t? and stand still for [...]

To poorly plagiarize Rick James, "Jet lag is a hell of an experience." I was pretty much out of touch with the world for three weeks while in Australia and it was great. Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking the Outback, and checking out prehistoric caves with Aboriginal art were among the highlights of this experience. Did I mention I get paid to do this? I guess Bob Dylan was wrong about twenty years of school-it can get you more than the day shift. I scouted and mixed this compilation during my jet lagged insomnia from [...]
