you may have heard of the COMA CINEMA in the last few months or so, if not get ready for some mellow bedroom indie-popping via their BLUE SUICIDE video. wotyougot

Coma Cinema is the solo project of South Carolina dweller Matt Cothran, who began writing under the freshly-famed moniker as a teenager in 2005. Since then he's kept up a notoriously high output, having released three albums in the same number of years, arguably climaxing with 'Blue Suicide', only the first of these stunning creations to receive a priced physical release . Until now, he's taken the unequivocally modest recourse of releasing entire albums as free downloads as his philosophy, asking that if one feels the need to compensate Coma Cinema they should do nothing more [...]
When you spend a lot of your time roaming the internet in search of new and exciting music, you spend a large portion of it trawling through utter crap. And an increasing amount of it is created by kids up in their bedrooms who put on a laughable attempt at "weirdness" by just slapping on...

Upon first glance, it may appear that Coma Cinema has developed a morbid and unhealthy curiosity with suicide. From the title of his newest record, to the quirky video for the track of the same name shot by Tyler T Williams, there's a foreboding bleak shadow surrounding his recent output. With your first experience of Blue Suicide you would be forgiven for thinking this, however with further listens, the facade of this elegant record peels away and it's true beauty is revealed. Matt Cothran, the inspiration behind Coma Cinema bares no bones about the blighted view he portrays [...]
Coma Cinema — Survivor’s Guilt
Looks like Tyler T. Williams is the man to go to for a good music video these days. The director gives Mat Cothran aka Coma Cinema's "Blue Suicide," the title track off his latest album, an appropriately bizarre, haunting visual treatment. Let's hear it for hipster pagan resurrection rituals! Blue Suicide , along with Cothran's previous works, Stoned Alone and Baby Prayers , are available for free download over at his website . [...]
You may remember a month or so back we posted a beautiful video for Pandit's elegant Pack Your Backs, shot by Tyler T. Williams, well he's been at it again. This time taking Blue Suicide, the title track and lead single from Coma Cinema's new record, and backing it with stunning visual effects. Drenched with sepia tones, and portraying a heart breaking story of self inflicted death, it's another spectacle to watch. Any budding young film makers should be looking to Tyler's work for inspiration, as he continues to cement himself as one of the most innovative, exciting talents in [...]

Mat Cothran's fantastic third album is finally available today. Download it for free off of his website and buy a vinyl or cassette while you're at it! Seriously, this is not an album you want to miss out on. All of the raw emotion of home recording is clearly audible, but without losing an ounce of care or detail. With a title like Blue Suicide its obviously quite the downer, but the tracks themselves are so gorgeous that I don't think anyone can mind. I can't stress enough how strongly I suggest this album to anyone [...]
Coma Cinema — Blue Suicide Tyler T. Williams, killin’ it yet again. CC’s long-awaited Blue Suicide dropped today on Wonder Beard Tapes and Fork & Spoon (digital copy here )- It’s a gorgeous piece of work, and I implore you to empty your wallets and buy it immediately.

Coma Cinema - Caroline, Please Kill Me Coma Cinema’s latest album is now available as a free download. It is probably too early in my listening to say if it is better than his previous brilliant releases, but it is definitely not too early to say it is at least as brilliant. Every song is magic and this album will be on my head phones all day as I run around town taking care of some errands. You should do the same (regardless if you have any errands to take [...]

Coma Cinema — I Wanna Be Adored (Stone Roses cover) Coma Cinema whipped up this stellar cover of The Stone Roses’ “I Wanna Be Adored” for MagicRPM ’s C44 compilation, which celebrates the magazine’s 20th birthday. The mix features a staggering list of contributors ( Pandit and Ghost Animal , to name a few) who take on the some of the best dream-pop hits of yore. This thing is free, so [...]

This amazing compilation just released today features some of my (and the blogosphere’s) favorite artist covering everyone from The Cure to the Cocteau Twins. Including Kitteh Fur , A.P. Witomski , Ghost Animal , Coma Cinema , Seapony , Pandit , just to name a few! The compilation was created to celebrate the 20th birthday of French magazine Magic RPM . And it [...]

Coma Cinema — Kate Reads the Bible Things are getting difficult here at the house and there is a perpetual sense of dread lingering on everything. Here is a song that doesn’t have a home planet. The one and only Coma Cinema just dropped this track on Summertime In Hell , and it’s unsurprisingly gorgeous. No lyrics this time (at least discernible ones), just warbled vocal fragments and a gently plodding melody. photo [...]

This playlist has been mutating since the beginning of 2011 and to be honest I'm kind of fuzzy on what songs were initially there. I can tell you that some of these songs are by my friends, and that three of them (You Don't Surf, Losing It and Plastic Fangs) were added about fifteen minutes ago. More importantly I can tell you that this mixtape sounds exactly how I've been feeling for the past two weeks. Hopefully listening to it will be as soothing for you as making it has been for me. [...]
This is a wonderful day. February is no more, and finally we can bid farewell to the dullness and bitter cold of the month. Suitably enough, I was sick for the majority of it. Now that March is here, it is hardly surprising that I feel infinitely better. Being able to keep my windows open [...]
