Looking for a good psychedelic jam Saturday night? You can't beat Six Organs of Admittance at Empty Bottle . Six Organs is Ben Chasny , who is touring his most recent album, Ascent . The album is a diversion from last year's mostly acoustic release, Asleep on the Floodplain . For Ascent , Chasny brought in his former band mates from Comets on Fire to make a much more rocking offering.

Ben Chasny is infatuated with the sound a string makes when you propel it into motion. His prolific work under the Six Organs of Admittance moniker has birthed all sorts of tonal excursions-journeys to the center of just how a string sounds when it's vibrating. (Drone, as some like to call it.) It's interesting, then, that the same guy who stares for hours at a few buzzing, elongated notes from a set of steel strings can cause such a racket, at least when he feels like it. Touring behind the newest chapter in Chasny's staggering prolificacy, the [...]

My first introduction to Six Organs Of Admittance occurred back in 2004. Six Organs, aka Ben Chasny, was opening for Current 93 at The Music Gallery. There he was, one man on stage with a guitar making some amazing sounds. Intricate fingerpicking, drone based compositions - there was a lot to like about what he was doing. In short, I was mesmerized and that night I became a fan. However, in the intervening years I had not seen him live again. And eight years later, Six Organs Of Admittance is not really [...]
Experimental neo-folk guitarist Ben Chasny, better known by the stage moniker Six Organs of Admittance, is playing tonight at Johnny Brenda's. Chasny, who is also part of Comets on Fire and Rangda, dropped Ascent in August, which has been received as being an especially psychedelic and heavily gnostic release. The 21+ show tonight starts at ... Continue reading

With as much psychedelic pop and rock that I've been listening to lately, it only made sense to put together a full show featuring the sub-genres. Of course, I also threw in some beloved garage rock to keep things sane. For the first time in ages, I took the KSVR and KSVU airwaves and played several older tunes (older meaning 2011 and before), with bands like Wooden Shjips and The Mantles and Comets on Fire. New releases got their fair share of air play as well: recent songs from The Fresh & Onlys, Two Gallants, Sunglasses and [...]
[Photos by acidjack] The guitarist Ben Chasny, who performs with various combinations of players as Six Organs of Admittance , was a late add to this year's Hopscotch Music Festival lineup, and a welcome one. Chasny, a veteran of the psych rock behemoth Comets On Fire, plays with a variety of approaches on the guitar; though he has been branded "new folk" in some quarters, that label hardly encompasses the wide range shown on Chasny's Six Organs output. His latest, Ascent , finds Chasny reunited with his Comets on Fire compatriots, with the heavier sound [...]
Ben Chasny will release a new Six Organs Of Admittance record this summer, and that lineup will feature several of his Comets On Fire bandmembers. It's the follow-up to 20112s Asleep On The Floodplain . Today, Chasny dropped the leadoff track from the new record, the chaotic scorcher "Waswasa." Download it below. Read More...

Comet Gain From: London, United Kingdom Comet Gain has history. They’re veritable veterans in an industry where careers rise and fall quicker than a dot.com company on a rollercoaster and they’re back to show The Vaccines, Brother and the latest crop of guitar wielding British pop urchins how it should be done. Grown from the noisy, political and downright belligerent Riot Grrrl movement, Comet Gain harks back to a time in British music when anything [...]

Comets On Fire - Hatched Upon The Age (2006)
It is hard not to root for Inches in Falling. Apart from the fact that they seem way beyond their years, their presentation as classic-rock fetishists showcases a ferocity that is genuinely reflective of the era. It could be due to the scraggly, unrestrained vocals that somehow maintain melodic consistency despite sounding both frenetic and [...]
by Lauren Keiser We all know that guy. The one who wakes up still drunk, refuses to spend more than ten dollars for a t-shirt, and reads the works of Hunter S. Thompson like a to-do list. Luke and Mitch Meseke both are probably "that guy" and, fortunately for us, they form the all-elusive Woozy [...]
This is a busy, busy week for SF show goers... Lotsa stuff to go to! Enjoy your last week of summer vacation! Here's how: Thursday, August 26th Volbeat, Dommin, A New Revolution at The Independent Volbeat is what Danzig should have been. They are a precise synthesis of old school punk, heavy metal, and rockabilly, [...]
by Jay Mattson Canada has been a venerable bastion of good music for the past decade. The New Pornographers, Broken Social Scene, Wolf Parade and Death From Above 1979, just to name a few, have all hailed from our neighbor to the north. Vancouver’s Black Mountain joined the fray with a 2005 self-titled debut that [...]
Jon Chapple takes on the unique experience of a Brian Jonestown Massacre show, an event that certainly lives up to the band's defiantly frustrating image. BJM, while inconsistent, have shown glimpses of brilliance throughout their career, and their recent performance at The Academy 3 was typical of just that: full of great moments but with too many distractions - both on the stage and off - to attain perfection.
Two members of the same band each give L.A. Record their favorite albums of the Aughties! Which albums will overlap? Which will cancel each other out? Is the inclusion of "Ex Models" a vicious personal swipe at someone? And will L.A. Record EVER run out of top ten lists of the Aughties? Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion...

And now a new feature here at GIMME TINNITUS, q and also a , where I chat/email with bands and they answer some questions. To kick off the feature I met up with Pete from Dinowalrus . Here we go... q: What is the last song you heard? a: The hour-long composition E2-E4 by Ash Ra Tempel guitarist, Manuel Göttsching . Listen: E2-E4 snippet (youtube) q: What is your favorite food? a: [...]
Som
