Commander Venus - Jean's TV I listened to this record once roughly a year or two ago but I never really gave it a chance. Now I'm obsessed with it. I went as far as to track down a used copy of the CD (for the liner notes!). I have been listening to almost nothing else for the past 2 weeks. Emo revival 2011.

After a brief wait... scratch that. After several years, Saddle Creek records have finally decided to re-release Desaparecidos' first full-length record AND the 7-inch single together on vinyl for the low low... scratch that, moderate price of $15. And who are Desaparecidos, you ask? Well they're one of Conor Oberst's post-punk projects that I personally liked more than Bright Eyes - his primary project. The other project that preceded it, Commander Venus , was very similar but Desaparecidos was that idea perfected. Why they changed their name, I don't know. Personally I like [...]
For what seems like it'll only be one show, but still! They were awesome, also kind of a big deal to these guys . Pitchfork reported late yesterday that the Conor Oberst-fronted punk outfit is coming together again after nearly a decade of inactivity to play the Concert of Equality in his hometown of Omaha, a benefit whose proceeds will support the ACLU's suit against Nebraska's controversial Fremont law. Oberst is also re-assembling his long dormant Bright Eyes project for the occasion, "anti-immigrant" legislation something he's become increasingly vocal about [...]
by chuck bell In a time when most major labels are dying, Saddle Creek Records have remained one of the most self-sufficient, resilient indie labels in the United States today. They built their name on the strength of their three biggest, top-selling bands: Cursive, Bright Eyes and The Faint. What most people don't remember is that all of the key players from this triumvirate were at one time or another involved with Commander Venus . The band was founded by Conor Oberst (guitar/vocals) and Matt [...]

I hope everyone votes Tuesday, and I hope everyone is fully informed before making their choices. If you're not sure who to vote for after at least eleven straight months of campaigning, well, you're on the Internet, go to Google and look around for yourself. There's no excuse not to be well informed. So to celebrate our democracy and the truly wonderful choice we can hopefully make for ourselves on Tuesday, I've listed the fifty states below, in red and blue, depending on which candidate, Bush (red) or Kerry (blue), the state voted for in 2004, along with [...]

With the announcement of this year's Austin City Limits lineup came the revelation for many, including myself, that Conor Oberst is back with another new side project. Hypeful recently did a great write-up about the newly formed Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band , which made their debut last December at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Composed of Oberst, Nik Freitas , and Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel, the group offers a dynamic and rich Neil Young-esque folk sound, a bit reminiscent of Bright Eyes' most [...]
