The only way to follow up a night in which you stumble into bed at 3:30 in the morning is to stumble into bed at 4:30 in the morning. It's been a long weekend, folks, and all the over-the-counter pseudoephedrine in the world couldn't keep me from crashing before my work-day ended. I was a busy bee, productive as all hell until about 90 minutes before my shift ended. Then I totally crashed and couldn't function any more. Rob Fisk has always been a master of bleak landscapes, certainly with his ensemble 7 Year Rabbit Cycle, but more recently so with Common Eider, King Eider. Badgerlore/7 Year Rabbit Cycle's Rob Fisk packed up and moved to Alaska last year and the isolated recording sessions netted the first CE, KI release. Back with another installment under his aviary pseudonym, this album delves deeper into the isolated expanses of tundra and chill. Ever the diviner of loneliness, you can practically feel the isolation in every note of Figs, Wasps, And Monotremes . Fisk blends echoing fields of tone with somber strings and his ghostly falsetto vocals to create a world that feels lost in a blinding emotional storm. The aftermath of said storm is both hauntingly [...]
