In this special, Friday edition: The Wiggles get Rewiggled , discover Analog Rebellion, and we resume our Blogophilia re-posts with Volume 18. Rewiggled? If you've had a child in the past twenty years (or if you've been one in the last twenty), it's hard not to go by a bowl of fruit salad and proclaim it as yummy, yummy. Thanks to the Disney Channel, The Wiggles have left an indelible mark on children worldwide. It's hard to believe this Aussie act is 20 [...]
Josh T. Pearson performs " Woman, When I've Raised Hell " live on Later with Jools Holland. We can't recommend his album, Last Of The Country Gentlemen enough. We're thrilled to welcome Breathe Owl Breathe back to the Cactus Club Milwaukee on Tuesday, April 19th . Check out this gorgeous video of them performing "Lake Light" for The Pickathon Pumphouse Sessions . The National's Mat Berninger lends his voice to a remix of Nick Cave's "Evil. " [...]

Common Loon duo of Matt Campbell and Robert Hirschfeld may have reached the age where dirty nappies could cloud inspiration and sorting the rubbish into different coloured bins could be an excuse for low innovation yet 'Mexico' from their newbie 'The Long Dream of Birds' dispels that frankly ludicrous supposition. Their fresh-faced approach skews all routes to planet chart but then their sonic experiments aren't exactly taxing on the ear. It was the lone chord play that drew me in at first but there is much more to 'Mexico' than first impressions would lead you to believe. There's something vaguely [...]

MP3: Junk Culture - "West Coast" Illegal Art act Junk Culture starts off a tour tonight in Atlanta with Common Loon . The two acts hit Union Hall in Brooklyn on July 10. A few months later, Junk Culture will return to the road again, but this time with Tobacco and Dreamend . It's a hefty schedule, but we're sure that each and every show should be a good one. Check out the schedule after the jump. Junk Culture tour [...]
Drowning in music. There are a few ways to imagine what that could mean, but in our case, it's purely about the amount of amazing music that has been sent to us over the past couple of months, but which has been put in a holding pattern because so many freaking stellar records have been [...] Related posts:Recent Releases We Almost Missed, Vol. II: Screaming Females, Prizzy Prizzy Please, Fictionist, Fresh and Onlys, Adam Green, Roadside Graves Recent Releases We Almost Missed, VIII: Vita Ruins, Lou Barlow, Communist Daughter, Cary Ann Hearst, Apollo Ghosts, Holy Ghost Recent Releases [...]

Atoms For Peace A bit chilly today, but we can make it through this, Chicago. Nice warm up tomorrow and then clear sailing to sunny 80-degree days next week. Wait a second. When did this become the weather report? There could be a blizzard outside and that wouldn't stop the fact that there's tons of live music to be heard. This weekend is packed with great shows from Mission of Burma , Japandroids , Thom Yorke's new group Atoms For Pace and so much more. Lets get to [...]

Amidst the mound of music that makes its way into my inbox--much of which gets lost, I'm afraid--I found these two delicious bands. They share a similar retro sensibility, although in slightly different ways. They both make for perfect warm-weather listening, as they infuse you with their warmth and lush sounds. Common Loon , who are from Illinois, remind me of Magical Mystery Tour -era Beatles with their chord structures and harmonies. These songs are from their debut album, The Long Dream of [...]

I really dislike doing The Graboid is such huge chunks like this, but rather than skipping weeks, this is how it'll have to be done until I get this back to being a weekly posting. That being said, there have been a ton of great releases over the past few weeks with one in particular from last week that I've been extremely excited about: the self-titled LP from Black Tambourine . It isn't exactly "new" material, but a complete compilation of their material from the early 90s (they only lasted two years). [...]

[ download ] BFFs-that's what Matt Campbell and Robert Hirschfeld are. In an era when most band dynamics are characterized with words like "turbulent" and "volatile," the duo behind Champaign-Urbana's Common Loon premised their act on a friendship that dates all the way back to kindergarten. That's when the friends first met, and now-twenty-five years later-the pair are getting ready to release their first album together. The Long Dream of Birds will be released on April 6th via Hidden Agenda Records (who have pressed titles from [...]

If you've been to the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin before you know the drill. Sore feet, bags under the eyes, hearing slightly damaged, voice lacking from talking over loud music constantly, slight hangover, and mandatory delays on your travel home are all some of the guarantees that attendees put themselves through. What could possibly make humans put themselves through such perils? What bands would be willing to endure days worth of driving and unimaginable parking hassles for the chance of playing in front of an unknown audience that chances are doesn't know [...]
