Holy Fuck ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons If the first day of Bumbershoot reminded me of a renaissance festival, then the second day reminded me of last-minute shopping at your local mall. The day felt a bit odd because there was noticeably less people than on Saturday, but somehow it felt more crowded. Blame it on [...]

Vivian Girls at Bumbershoot 2009 in Seattle, WA (09/06/09) Photos and Words : Drake LeLane Check out Drake ’s recap from Day 2 of Bumbershoot 2009 below: Day 2 of Bumbershoot was like the first in that the weather looked grim initially, but held up fine once things got going. Other than that, though, it was quite a bit different. There was a black hole in the middle of the day schedule-wise, but that allowed me to both visit [...]

I'm not one to champion hip hop and rap, but listening to The Winter's End EP by Common Market ( MySpace ), it's hard not to; fronted by RA Scion, this duo is not your typical for this genre. There are no bitches nor any hoes. And, thus, there aren't any pimps with gold or racial profanity that so often taints and henceforth lessens a large portion of the genre. It is, however, seemingly typical for hip hop in the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps one of the most [...]

So despite their recent tour with Digable Planets being canceled due to that band's implosion, Common Market have released the video for "Escaping Arkham" from their new Winter's End EP which also dropped the week. While the song explores the intersection of life and lifelessness, the video sets said crossroads at the cemetery of the famed Trinity Church in New York. I like this video; then again, I like most music videos. Most. Click the image above [...]
Common Market has a new video single from their just released digital-only EP The Winter's End is "Escaping Arkham" and it arrived today. Watch it above. No notion of that comic book loony-bin in the video itself, the song itself is a quintessential sounding Common Market song. Hot off of a busy SXSW it's unfortunate that the duo's tour supporting the Digable Planet's is now off "[d]ue to irreconcilable differences among the members Digable Planets." You can and should listen to four of the five tracks from The Winter's End [...]
Music video for "Escaping Arkham" by Common Market from the "Winter's End" EP.

This is a huge WTF moment for me. 3 days before the start of an East Coast reunion tour, Digable Planets broke up... again . I guess Ladybug Mecca left the group. For some reason she couldn't go through with the tour. I obviously can't really speak on the circumstances 'cause I don't have any clue, but this is definitely a shock. . Also a big shock for Common Market , who was set to open for them on [...]

Common Market, the guys who gave me probably my favourite US album of last year, will be releasing their follow up EP 'The Winter's End' at the end of April. If you did check their album 'Tobacco Road' then you'll know that it followed the theme of a year in agriculture. 'The Winter's End' picks up where they finshed off and sonically and lyrically, nothing's changed - it's still all good. 'Escaping Arkham' you can have for free, now. It's a lump-in-throat provoking half pessimistic, half optimistic song about the uncertaintity of life. [...]
At some point Seattle's gonna get recognition for all the hip hop comin' outta there. Soon...soon. "Escaping Arkham" got dropped off this morning and presages the release of Common Market's The Winter's End... [More after the jump...]

Common Market announces March tour with Digable Planets, and showcases at SXSW"Scion’s flow is liquid, with superb word choice and breath control, while anyone who has heard Blue Scholars knows Sabzi’s old-school soul fueled beats easily rival those of 9th Wonder." - Pop Matters"Common Market have created a work that's brought them closer to the region of hiphop greatness.
