One of our favourite debut albums from last year was the Arnaud Rebotini-produced Rafale album 'Obsessions' - well they've decided to give it a lick of remix paint for 2012 and are giving away the remixes album for free. The remixes come from a wealth of talent including: Arnaud Rebotini, Museum, Commuter, Darabi, Voyou, Black Buvard, Juveniles, Maria False (the winners of the remix contest), Theo Gravil and Heisenberg 1943. Grab the whole thing here and say thank you on their Facebook [...]
If one single really caught my attention this year, I mean really caught my attention, it had to be "Extra Cheese Slap" . The infectious combination of lurching hip-hop production and trunk rattling bass made a serious impression, and now here's fuller taste of what The Two.Fifteens have to offer. The Commute Vol. 1 is an hour of hard hitting grimy left coast beats exploring a wide range of BPMs sure to give any system a proper workout. It has been circulating for a good while, but better late than never with this collection of originals and [...]

Tyler Cowen : The benefits of driverless cars are potentially significant. The typical American spends an average of roughly 100 hours a year in traffic; imagine using that time in better ways — by working or just having fun. The irksome burden of commuting might be lessened considerably. Furthermore, computer-driven cars could allow for tighter packing of vehicles on the road, which would speed traffic times and allow a given road or city to handle more cars. Trips to transport goods might dispense with drivers altogether, and rental cars could routinely pick up customers… [...]
The notion that long commutes cause " obesity, neck pain, loneliness, divorce, stress, and insomnia " is about as shocking as finding out your local mall Santa Claus is a drunken pedophile. Commuting is a migraine-inducing life-suck—a mundane task about as pleasurable as assembling flat-pack furniture or getting your license renewed, and you have to do it every day . If you are commuting, you are not spending quality time with your loved ones. You are not exercising, doing challenging work, having sex, petting your dog, or playing with your kids (or your Wii). You are [...]

I commute. I do so relunctantly and under silent protest and, on good evenings, I can block out Sting howling the lyrics to Synchronicity II , which plays on a loop in my head during the drive. "Another working day has ended Only the rush hour hell to face Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes Contestants in a suicidal race" The morning trek, though, is typically Zen. The only people up when Paloma and I arise are us, the kid that drowsily mans the counter at the [...]

soviet - "commute" (download) I saw these guys open for Add N To X back in 2005 and I fell in love with them. They put on a great show, and they're record was great. I went a few years without ever thinking about them until I saw Soviet show up on a collaboration with Erlend Oye (Kings of Convenience/Whitest Boy Alive, etc), so I decided to dig this record up again, and amazingly, it still stands up. This stuff is sort of timeless. It's [...]
Former Grandaddy frontman emerges from cloud of depression and downer indie rock
It's the weekend:Yours Truly, The Commuter is out now on Anti-.MP3: Jason Lytle- "Yours Truly, The Commuter"For more on Jason Lytle, try this, this, this, and this.
Fans of Grandaddy probably sensed they would one day hear again from Jason Lytle, the band's former singer/songrwriter/reluctant leader, for despite its well-documented struggles, Grandaddy proved to be resilient. Now Jason Lytle is back. Though he's relocated from Modesto, Calif. to Bozeman, the fifth-largest city in Montana, his distinctive sound is unchanged. This interview by Nina Gregory.

Like Mike D , Jason Lytle finds himself being left for dead in the killer self titled opener from "Yours Truly, The Commuter." "I may be limping / but I'm coming home," a simple refrain of determination sung sickly sweet in a runner for opening song of the year. With a great acoustic guitar sound, and keyboard, and his whispered vocals, Jason Lytle easily wins listeners to either play with Moog keyboards, or hug someone. Most of the songs contain bittersweet optimism. Take "This Song Is The Mute Button" with 4-track punk drum pounding through the basement [...]

On May 19th, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy fame will be giving us his first solo effort: Yours Truly, The Commuter . Well, "giving" might not be the right word, but you know what I mean. Here's a new video for the track "I Am Lost (And The Moment Cannot Last)," which goes to show a lot can be said in just over two minutes--even if everything's in slowmo: Look for the new Jason Lytle LP on Anti- . The title track: MP3: [...]
Singer/songwriter Jason Lytle's famed pop rock outfit Grandaddy may be defunct, but that doesn't mean he is. From the sound of things, he's nowhere near down & out. Actually, his upcoming album's title track says he's coming home despite some limping. An injured leg is no way to start a solo career, but Lytle seems like the kind of guy who can suck it up and get to the finish line anyway. His new album is Yours Truly, The Commuter , and look for it on Anti- in May. Here's the aforementioned song: [...]
