Photo by Ryan Muir Brooklyn shredders Goes Cube have a new limited edition 7-inch out today featuring the single "Property" b/w "The Ban Has Been Lifted." Starting next month they're heading out on a nationwide tour with East of the Wall, and they're also set to play the Ear/Splitters (appropriate, no?) showcase at SXSW alongside The Atlas Moth, Snake Sustaine, City of Ships, labelmates Hull, touring pals East of The Wall and more. They've also finished recording the follow up to their debut full-length, Another Day [...]
First off, big thanks to the man, the plan Strath Shepard (he of the amazing blog Pacific Standard) for turning me on to this, something I believe I'd never be invested in ever again - a Northwest hip-hop group. Not turning the hate hose on to the fertile hip-hop scene that grows and grows in [...]

There are three albums I'd theoretically want to write a 33 1/3 about: Fela Kuti's Expensive Shit/He Miss Road, Ghostface's Supreme Clientele, and Company Flow's Funcrusher Plus. 500 words clearly doesn't cut it, but it'll have to suffice. No matter what you're into now - whether it be Kid Cudi or Kid-N-Play - I think most of us can agree that at one point or another we were transfixed on Company Flow's Funcrusher Plus (or at least I think that's the right use of transfixed). Anyway - after years of public threats against Rawkus and what I would imagine was some sort of legal battle, El-P has reclaimed the rights to his seminal 1997 classic. Shit drops in every format on May 5 . Excerpt from the press release below... [...]

She probably didn't know it at the time, but my wife got me one of the best gifts ever when she ordered Company Flow's Funcrusher Plus for me in the first year or so of dating in 1997. Twelve years later, Definitive Jux , the label run by Co. Flow's El-P, is reissuing what rightly should be considered an independent classic on May 5 in CD, vinyl and digital formats. The digital release will include the pre-1995 tracks Juvenile Techniques and Corners 94 , as well as the last post- Funcrusher Plus [...]

El-P , Bigg Jus , and Mr. Len have parted ways since the break up of Company Flow in 2001, but the once influential hip-hop group is gaining collective recognition once more, as El-P's record label, Definitive Jux Records , plans to re-release a reissued copy of 1997's Funcrusher Plus in May. The critically acclaimed Funcrusher Plus has been off of shelves since 2006, but will be available once more on May 5th, with exclusive rare tracks from the groundbreaking hip-hop group added into the [...]

For the FIRST OFFICIAL JumpTheTurnstyle.com sanctioned mix, Beantown's own DJ RUGGED ONE digs deep through the Rawkus Records library and unearths a grip of forgotten underground hip hop gems and blends them into a very well done mix with a lot of your favorite Rawkus staples. Highly recommended for both the casual fan, and the hardcore early 00's - late 90s Rawkus head. DOWNLOAD: DJ Rugged One Digs Rawkus Mix vol. 1 Notes: (75 Megs) - 1 Track [...]

By now I'm sure you've all heard about the end of the world that's going down this fall. No Boston, not the Tom Brady ACL injury (go giants), I'm talking of course about the world's largest particle accelerator, which gets turned on later this week . What the fuck is a particle accelerator? Well - according to published reports, the particle accelerator or Large Hadron Collider for the techies, is a 17-mile-long doughnut-shaped tunnel that will smash sub-atomic particles together at nearly the speed of light. Built by the [...]

Image credit: Simon Grossi In the previous part I explained how once more flipping through my pre-2002 hip-hop albums led me to more or less rediscover the genre again. I decided to make a two-post mix of some of the tracks that still sound remarkably fresh to me today. This second playlist preserves the overall vibe of the previous one, but differs by being less jazz and turntablism oriented and instead focuses more on the MCs and their delivery and rhymes. I admit, I cheated with this playlist by including [...]
