The video for the song " Oscar Wilde " was filmed at Sycamore Elementary School in Kokomo, Indiana, over the course of just one day in December 2008. It includes over 60 props which were mostly bought from flea markets and vintage stores. If you like the song, it's available for free download .

Contributing photographer Meg Clark made her way out to Bowery Ballroom to see the quirky Genevieve Schatz and the rest of the Company of Thieves . The charming and "literary" young Chicago band was very happy to be back in New York City and Meg caught it all for us. Here is what she saw.

Video for Company of Thieves ' Oscar Wilde based off of the Wes Anderson movie Rushmore . a comment from noah : as long as we're on the subject lets look back in time to the video for The Decemberists' " Sixteen Military Wives ." Any similarities? If you think of more Rushmore-like music videos let us know!
The video was filmed at Sycamore Elementary School in Kokomo, Indiana, over the course of just one day in December 2008. It includes over 60 props which were mostly bought from flea markets and vintage stores. Inspiration came from Max Fischer, the character from the Wes Anderson favorite "Rushmore," who participates in so many extra-curricular activities that he flunks out of school. For the technically inclined, the video was shot on Kodak Vision3 500T 16mm film using an Eclair ACL camera with 12mm and 14mm lenses, with 23 lighting setups. Video: Oscar Wilde, the [...]
Rushmore is my favorite Wes Anderson movie, and one of my favorite movies in general. Which is why I can't decide whether or not I like this Company of Thieves video. Is it a delightful homage? Or a blatant, lazy rip off? I can't tell. Thoughts?

Company of Thieves - Ordinary Riches Release date: Feb 24, 2009 [ amazon.com ] This isn't a design that makes blood shoot out your eyes with its optical tomfoolery (like a recent one we looked at ), but it cuts back a but, I think because it's a natural photograph. Sure, there's the opposing, repeating geometries, but it's understated. They're saying, "Hey, take a gander at this release and maybe the music," not, "Our designer totally wants to nauseate you with our visuals, bro! We're twisted!" [...]
Pretty weak release week. Other than a few big names that are past their prime, the one album I highly recommend is Laura Gibson 's Beasts of Seasons . Arguably one of the best releases of the year so far. :: Air France , No Way Down (101 Distribution) :: The Alternate Routes , A Sucker's Dream (Vanguard) :: August Burns Red , Lost Messengers: The Outtakes (Solid State) :: Black Lips , 200 Million [...]

Genuine rock band and local favorite of Fillgar keyboardist Casey Gibson , Company of Thieves are ready to win your attention. Their new record, Ordinary Riches , which releases tomorrow, is a crystalline and polished piece of pop rock craft, but it still manages to feel personal. Company of Thieves are so excited about the new record that they are willing to hang out on their Myspace page during their record release date at 2pm EST for a webchat with fans of their work. If [...]

There are reasons why I'm talking about Company of Thieves and their new album Ordinary Riches , and those reasons are threefold. One: because I was asked to nicely. Seriously, like Kane said "Yeah it sounds old fashioned...but it works!". Two: they are from Chicago. Not sure if you've heard about it, but Chicago had a hand in doing the world at large a solid recently, so it seemed appropriate to give a little something small back. Three: they are on the latest episode of Live From Daryl's House . If you know our [...]

Company of Thieves isn't a bad band. They've got the whole writing hooks, lyrics and catchy choruses bit down, but the fatal flaw is the band's radio-friendly sound...or really, their lack of any distinct sound at all. While the band is world's ahead of the vast majority of major label bands pushed on the airwaves, the indistinctive vocals, conventional production and lack of any real edge in the compositions keeps this band from qualifying as anything to really pay attention to. Competent, but not quite compelling is the best way to define Company of [...]
Download: Company of Thieves - "Oscar Wilde" Though "Oscar Wilde," the lead-off single from Chicago group Company of Thieves' almost-here (in the sense of celebrating the album in the hometown) record Ordinary Thieves, starts off with a Rolling Stones-esque mid-tempo strut, the band gracefully segues into harmony-laden power-pop, with melodies that shimmer effortlessly. The band will celebrate

Feed subscribers : I've temporarily changed Muruch's feed to summary, so you'll need to visit the site to download mp3s and read full reviews. I'm having trouble with a few websites hotlinking my mp3s and re-posting my content. Normally I just ignore such annoyances, but this is resulting in some Google indexing issues since Muruch has moved to its own domain. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and I'll reinstate the full summary once it is corrected. Thanks! Company of Thieves - Oscar Wilde (mp3) Catchy femme pop-rock. The first [...]

The latest album from Australian quartet Youth Group [pictured], "All This Will Pass," will finally get a U.S. release on April 7, via World's Fair and the Aussie imprint Ivy League. The band's swoon-worthy Britpop made a mark here — at least with me — on "Skeleton Jar" (2004, Epitaph) and "Casino Twilight Dogs (2006, Anti-).
