The Company - La Culebra label: Daptone year: 2002 side a: La Culebra side b: La Culebra (Part 2) Nice and slow burner by Neil Sugarman, one of the founders and head honchos of the fabulous Daptone label and member of Sugarman 3 and The Dap-Kings . Found the single at beformentioned record store in Zaragoza a couple of months ago. It made me very happy.

This short has made its way around the net this week, but I finally got a chance to sit down and watch it..A great short describing in short detail the development of the classic running shoe, and current hipster fashion favorite, company Asics from its begining as a small shoe company Onitsuka Tiger in Japan. The short is shot largely using origami models using a motionographer. Take a moment and watch it...you might get a tad inspired..

I heard about it when it came out and I thought I should miss it since I already what corporations are up to and how "evil" they are. I was wrong. This documentary shines a light on many other aspects, with many luminaries of our time commenting and pitching in. I recommend this to everyone with a conscience.

DOWNLOAD: Company - The Sad Businessman (MP3) DOWNLOAD: Cardboard Records Compilation (Trey Told Em mashup ) (MP3) " Old Baby " is the latest record from Company , a songwriting collective and rock band rooted in folk, punk, country, and psychedelic traditions. Brought together by a shared commitment to writing songs that don't "pussyfoot around", to borrow Dylan's phrase, Adam Davison, David Janik, Stephanie Rabins, and Christopher Teret formed Company in 2001. Oneida will help Company [...]

according to brah records , which is part of the secretly canadian/jagjaguwar camp, "the brooklyn-based band company evolved out of a miasma of folk, punk & psychedelic elements in 2001"...first of all, i have no idea what a miasma is...secondly, whatever elements they evolved from, to me, they pretty much sound like an alt-country band...a good one too...their music is familiar, but not tired, kind of reminiscent of those early-nineties jayhawks albums...the band's forthcoming record, old baby , arrives february 19th, but if you pre-order it, you'll get a link to download an entire [...]

I've got a bunch of posts ready to go, but they'll be preempted from appearing on these virtual pages by an exclusive first listen to the new record by Company . This is a band that is being called "a songwriting collective...rooted in folk, punk, country and psychedelic traditions", since that's as good a description as I've heard for the music generally heard on Songs:Illinois it was hard to delay this post. Like any collective I've ever heard this one is loose. The sound is characterized more by it's inaccuracies than by it's precision. This is [...]
