RNDM  – the 902s gazing side-project  featuring Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur, and drummer Richard Stuverud – stopped by Conan last night for a performance of "The Disappearing Ones" off last year's Acts . When Sam Beam visited Conan as the show's musical guest last night, he brought plenty of help with him. In this case, Beam's Iron And Wine project was a total mob: A string quartet, a trio of background singers, and another trio of horn players, as well as the standard guitar/bass/drums/keyboard configuration. On the show proper, the band played an expansive rendition of "Low Light Buddy Of Mine," a song from Iron And Wine's new album Ghost On Ghost . In between Coachella weekends, Alt-J made their U.S. late night television debut on Conan . Dropping by O'Brien's Burbank studio, the band performed An Awesome Wave highlight "Breezeblocks." The Leeds outfit did a fine job supporting their Mercury Prize-winning debut. Check out their performance below. On last night's episode of Conan , the Scottish band Frightened Rabbit did musical-guest duty, playing their sad-bastard anthem " The Woodpile " about as hard as a song like that can be played. Last night, Japandroids, one of our finest rock bands currently working, brought their thunderous simplicity to the stage at Conan , blasting through the Celebration Rock opener "The Nights Of Wine And Roses." It's not substitute for being there, obviously, but I'm pretty impressed at how the band has managed to translate their live intensity, as undiminished as possible, to the late-night TV stage.
