It's the second week of 2009 and life is finally as it should be: Mickey Rourke is beloved again and talk shows are out of their winter hiatus. I think we can all agree that, if a higher power exists, it's in full swing this month. Your DVR will be busy this week as it bounces back and forth between the after-hours talk shows. On the same night you have John Legend and David Cook back to back-libidos will be racing. And Thursday night you can hear buzzworthy Glasvegas, which was recently reviewed in the very [...]
Back in 1993 Conan O'Brien made his debut as host of NBC's Late Night. At his request, Radiohead was the music act that night. This was their performance. You've got to give props to Conan - not only has he been rockin' that hair for over fifteen years on national television, but he's got impeccable taste in music.

People often,'though now not so much, don't realise Kanye's big hit "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" originally uses Daft Punk's same titled song as the background sample. I have nothing wrong with sampling because music is sample upon sample upon sample, really. But give credit to where credit is due! On that note, this is somewhat old news but I'm sure you fashionistas out there have noticed a pretty wikkid heart pin floating around on the chest of some big names in the biz, notably, Kanye West. [...]
At the start of a new year, most people hope for continued health, more money, true love, and a bunch of other stuff that didn't happen last year and won't happen in 2009. Nonetheless, the real reason to look forward to the new year is the return of new performances on the talk show circuit after some barren weeks in December. Granted, there's not a ton of new stuff this week, but some is better than none. And Leno really steals the spotlight for his schizophrenic booking, which is a little bit hipster and a little bit mtvU. [...]
We're in the homestretch of 2008 and apparently nobody wants to work, seeing as every late-night show is a rerun this week. These talk show hosts deserve a break, though. After all, they do have to work a full five hours each week. Luckily for you, some artists are worth a second viewing, such as Bon Iver, 2008's Sad Man of the Year, and Sarah McLachlan, recipient of the Lifetime Award for Sadness. But the trophy for this week's Sophie's Choice goes to Tuesday night's schedule conundrum: The Jonas Brothers or The Bacon Brothers? Don't make [...]

Last week, indie folk band Fleet Foxes was featured on Late Night with Conan O'Brien . It marked the second occasion that the guys from Seattle appeared on network TV; they first appeared back on June on The Late Show with David Letterman . 2008 has been a huge year for Fleet Foxes; their second EP, Sun Giant , was released back in February and their self-titled debut album was released four months later. They also embarked on a North American and European tour from March until Septemer. [...]
Last night, Seattle's most hyped band since you know who took to the Late Night stage for the second time this year. Though Conan accurately presented Fleet Foxes by mentioning that "their self-titled debut is one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2008," (just check our list) the folksters decided to perform a song not from the said album, but from their equally stunning Sun Giant EP , "English House". Maybe the band is trying to remind people that there's another disc available for purchase in the record stores, or maybe they're [...]
Tonight's musical guest on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" will be Fleet Foxes performing"English House" from their self-titled release which dropped earlier this year. You can hear the entire album in full today and tomorrow streaming on the band's MySpace page thanks to their inclusion on MySpace's "50 Albums You Should Know From 20083. Fleet Foxes will close out the year playing Falls Festival in Australia with The Dodos and will kick off the New Year with a string of dates Down Under before a three off stint at the UK's Roundhouse in February. [...]
As the air grows colder and people are watching movies about virginal vampires, assassinated gay politicians, and child-molesting priests, you can't help but feel that holiday magic in the air. The men of late night want you to feel just as jolly before bedtime, so that's why they've booked a slew of guys to sing their hearts out and remind you that heartbreak doesn't take a holiday. Kevin Barnes engages his Id one night; John Legend seduces your mom another; and The Fray remind you that Grey's Anatomy is still on the air. Here's [...]

Newer bands are coming out of the woodshop left and right these days, but few bands have been crafting wooden ships on their very first try. This is the case for Athens, Georgia based indie grunge kids Dead Confederate . With the release of their full-length debut Wrecking Ball on The Artists Organization , Dead Confederate not only have been listed on Rolling Stone's "Six Artists To Watch," they're also featured as one of Yahoo!'s most recent "Who's Next?" artists as well. With the release of their first single [...]

It's been a pretty crazy year for THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM , they played countless shows, released an EP as well as their amazing new LP, The '59 Sound , got some critcs to notice and even more fans. Seems nearly fitting they put a cap to the year's end by making their debut on network tv last night. The band were the musical guests on Late Show with Conan O'Brien last night. Brian, Alex, Alex, and Benny performed the title track off the record and gave what the future Tonight Show host [...]

The Gaslight Anthem - "Great Expectations" mp3 Maybe they felt some added pressure because a real live member of the E-Street Band was in their presence , but New Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem sure rocked the shit out of Studio 6A in Rockefeller Center last night. They delivered a triumphant performance of the title track to this year's breakthrough The '59 Sound , which should make many a year-end-list around here, prompting Conan O'Brien himself to call the band "killer." And yeah, we know he has [...]
Here's what we know: Jimmy Fallon 's vlog debuted last night on NBC.com . Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will premiere on March 2, 2009 . Jimmy's house band will be The Roots ! Conan O'Brien will take over The Tonight Show on June 1, 2009 Jay Leno is not exiting NBC after all and will in fact be hosting a prime time talk show [...]
Occasional fuuny man Jimmy Fallon confirmed the rumors that the Roots will be his house band when he takes over "Late Night" from Conan O'Brien next year. The announcement was made at the end of Fallon's new video blog. Hip-hop blog Nah Right started the rumors flying when they posted a YouTube interview with the Roots' drummer ?uestlove , claiming that The Roots were retiring from touring in order to become Jimmy's house band. But the video was quickly pulled, leaving [...]
![What Will The New Jay Leno Show Mean For Music? [Bring Back Arsenio]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1397571_lg.jpg)
Any music-related news that might have emerged today would have a hard time competing with NBC's announcement that Jay Leno will have a nightly prime-time show beginning this fall, and that it'll air in the 10 p.m. (9 p.m. Central/Mountain) slot from Monday through Friday. With Conan O'Brien moving into Leno's old spot and the Roots (and some dude from SNL who snickers a lot) moving into Conan's spot, it's worth looking at how the late-night opportunities for musical acts will shake out in the coming months. According to The [...]
