So, if the critical theorists are to be believed, the horror story, at its core, functions as cautionary tale intended to reinforce normative behavior (by depicting the grim fate of transgressors) and/or reflect contemporary societal anxieties. With that in mind, let's turn our attention to "The Boy Who Cried Vampire," another tale from the headscratchingly bizarre Chilling Adventures in Sorcery As Told By Sabrina #1 (September, 1972). During the course of a family dinner party, young Stanley Caldwell makes a discovery about his dapper (yet sinister) "Uncle Brucie," a frequent guest of the family: [...]

Last fall, I mentioned that as the days shorten and weather starts to turn I find myself nostalgically digging for those ol' Concrete Blonde cds. A while back in my internet travels, I saw that Johnette was releasing a solo album this fall and I thought about how perfect the timing was gonna be. I was gonna be able to get my Concrete Blonde nostalgic fix and listen to some new music...all at the same time. Also. a few weeks back I mentioned that Ms. Siouxsie Sioux was also about to release a solo cd this fall. I did not [...]
Well, it's been 365 days and some 404 posts. Pretty cool if you ask me. I wasn't really sure what I was doing when I started ninebullets, and I'm not too sure I know what I am doing today, but here we are nonetheless. I know about three months into the site I got really discouraged and put some serious thought into just quitting this whole blog thing. I am glad I stuck it out, though...hopefully over the past year you have found some cool music via this site and hopefully we'll be able to do this again next September. [...]

Thanks to the lolcats at icanhascheezburger? Today is not our birthday(s), but it is the start a weekend climax of birthday celebrations. To start off, here's the ultimate rock and roll birthday song by the Beatles, updated by Australia's Sunnyboys. Sunnyboys : Birthday (Beatles cover) from Mushroom Evolution Concert (2005) I loved this from the first moment I heard it: Concrete Blonde : Happy Birthday from Free (1989) Here's a truly horrible [...]

I decided to have a another theme this week, a salute to one of my favorite singers and songwriters - Johnette Napolitano . She's mostly known as the frontwoman and bassist of Concrete Blonde , but has been in several other bands, as well as collaborated with many artists. Now that Concrete Blonde is no more (again), Johnette is back to doing her own solo work. She's a very creative and out-spoken soul, which is one of the reasons I love her, [...]

The album's title is about as appropriate as it can be with Napolitano's unmistakable voice, a thing dry, raw and tortured, yet simultaneously beautiful and thick, bearing the trademark. The [...]

As the immigration debate heats up this summer's political landscape, it's good to see the powers that be take a moderate, even forgiving position. For example, the manpower starved U.S. Armed Forces is now allowing illegal immigrants to serve in exchange for citizenship. Even Dubya is taking a stance against his hardline conservative brethren and calling for a compassionate, comprehensive guest worker program. Unfortunately, Major League Baseball is not as forgiving when it comes to the wetbacks...
