This Music Wins Review Of The Year 2011 on Resonance FM After writing an albums of the year list longer than probably all my posts across the entire year put together, putting together a 90 minute radio show for Resonance FM seemed like a breeze. So, here it is: 15 or so of my favourite songs of the year in Radio Show format. View the written list here . DOWNLOAD : This Music Wins Review Of The Year 2011 ( MP3 ) To [...]

Britain's Conifers is up to some fine production. Legs And Arms weaves gorgeous acoustics and electronics around an afro beat, blotting samples of lo-fi organics evenly throughout the piece. Fans of Singing Statues / Botany / Bibio will love this. Conifers - Legs And Arms

London / Brighton Live (Oct. 10 - Oct. 16) Dirty Beaches + Ela Orleans @ Bush Hall, London (Monday) A rare live date for brazened post-punk star Alexander Zhang Hungtai, but surely one of many more to come. I championed his track 'Lone Runner' back in August for its influence 'squeezed from modern lo-fi, a smattering of 40s and 50s swing and pop… [and] bleak colourless imagery '. Support comes from Ela Orleans, purveyor of the other half of Dirty Beaches' split 12" 'Double Feature'. [...]
Kenneth Thomas, in a tunnel. If you care about heavy music and still believe that art should trump commerce every time, you owe it to yourself to check out Blood, Sweat & Vinyl: DIY in the 21st Century. I've written about Kenneth Thomas's music documentary in these e-pages before. After watching the film a second [...]

Conifers - Legs And Arms British IDM project ' Conifers ' might have released only one song, but that's all its taken for some clear Tunng/Black Moth Super Rainbow comparisons to come out on their gentle forays in to electronic folk music. 'Legs And Arms' is predominantly acoustic - but is characterised by a pitch shifting melody and chattering tribal percussion which, taken together, dance into the depths of nature-induced Eastern psychedelia. A debut album is rumoured to be in the works. Conifers - Legs And Arms ( MP3 [...]

Ever been to a micro-festival? In fact, what is a micro-festival? No, we're not sure either. One thing we are sure of is that if the line up is good enough then we're attracted. Today we want to talk about one that's come under our radars, with a particularly decent lineup, that we think may just be worth your effort. Binnacle is a two day line up of bands hosted at The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch this weekend (on 15th and 16th September). It's focus is on emerging music, although in all honesty some [...]
Happy Super Bowl Sunday, you super people! I hope your team won, if you're a sports guy who likes a certain sports team. Otherwise, as we say in New York (about the Mets) better luck next year! Speaking of which, pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training soon. I don't have anything else to say really, so I guess I'll stop stalling and get to this week's mix tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs : I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever [...]

I know it's been a while since i last posted but it's been an eventful few weeks. I've had to deal with a lot of overtime at work which has it's good and bad points. Good points - lots of money at the end of the month. Bad points - over tiredness (i can't sleep) and an almost non existent social life between Monday and Friday. Over the past week or two i've also been busy sorting out my new house. Yes, i eventually got a flat. I'm eventually moving out into the big [...]

Conifers , quite appropriately, calls this a 'growing project'.. For now, he'll find his voice in amongst these weird spectral words, and his rhythm pulled from a lush, sugary haze.. Legs and Arms - Conifers
Nicci's workplace had their annual Christmas Party at Malo tonight, which meant a couple hours of heavenly eating and drinking. Right now I am full of carnitas, potato and eggplant tacos, beef and pickle tacos and chicken/chorizo quesadillas. I could not be happier. If that restaurant wasn't so expensive (or maybe if I had a better-paying job?) I would eat there every night. Well, not every night - I'd need to eat at Qdoba and Casa Bianca and Patra, too! Hey, how about a mix tape? RULES for uninitiated noobs : With [...]
Hi everybody. I'm glad you could all make it. Welcome to the annual "Best Albums Of..." post, which is usually the time I put effort into composing a blog entry. In 2005 I wrote small blurbs about the top twenty-five albums of the year. In 2006 I wrote three-word reviews for the 50 best records of the year. Last year I went so far as to craft a complete sentence for my favorite 100 albums of 2007. This year...I don't know, I haven't started the list yet. I think I'm just going to write blurbs about the albums for which [...]

It was a weird, post-apocalyptic mess in Los Angeles this weekend. From Santa Barbara to Anaheim, thirty-five thousand acres of land have been scorched by wildfires. The closest flames to LA are still burning in the San Fernando Valley, and may continue to burn for days. The last three days were unlike anything I have ever experienced. The drive home from work Saturday evening was marked by an ominous orange/black sunset. The air outside burned my eyes and parched my throat, even if there was no sign of any smoke wafting through the city. Some folks at higher elevations claimed [...]
What a long fucking day. All I wanted to do was stay in bed, but I had to go to work. Then I had to stay until closing even though it wasn't scheduled. I went out with the boys for a couple beers and a couple shots last night, and went home shortly after midnight because I had to be awake and able-bodied for work. When I got home at 7:30 this evening, I learned that they were still drinking. An incredible marathon of booze that surprised even me. I can't imagine how dead everyone is going to [...]

People just won't quit with their doomsday scenarios and their end-of-the-world prognostications! I was driving back to my apartment last night after taking in a movie ( Lost Horizon , influenced the TV show LOST ) and a television show (The first episode of The Joe Schmo Show , which Tom and Nicci have not seen), and Coast To Coast was featuring some guy who was pretending to answer calls as Jesus Christ. The first three calls I heard were all about Armageddon or End Of Days scenarios. Then, this morning, I was driving to work and some [...]
